Confirmed: Steve Smith has a back injury

109 posts in this topic

Its just too much for Steve Smith. I never thought he should come in as the #1 WR. I really thought we should have given him lead targets, but lower the workload. Granted Perrimans injury wasn't a part of the plan, but he needs help. Even last year the workload was just too much. If he returns next season I really believe he should be our slot guy.

2014 CBs = 2015 WRs

**Sigh** Why can't we just be healthy for one season? I know its apart of the game but damn for once can we just have everyone together that are important?

We did for a glorious 4 games in 2012. That was pretty much the last time it happened.

If anyone is interested, Dr David Chao (orthopedic surgeon, former head of the SD Chargers medical staff) has been tweeting about Steve Smith's injuries.

https://twitter.com/profootballdoc

Some highlights include:

By video, any back fracture on #SteveSmithSr likely transverse process (non-structural, away from nerves). No surgery or risk of paralysis

Broken ribs or transverse process fracture have same treatment & timeline. Very painful, no surgery, RTP when comfortable. 1-4 weeks.

#Romo finished game and missed only 1 week with transverse process fractures, but much harder for WR than QB. #SteveSmithSr @Ravens

Who will step up on this soft team? I need Ozzie to read this: YOU'VE ASSEMBLED A TEAM OF MARSHMELLOWS.

A 36 year old guy is the best player on your team and the only one bringing the toughness. From here on we will find out if Harbaugh really is a good coach or overrated.

neg away...

Confirmed back injury? Or ribs injury?

I guess there is just not a whole lot of clarity on the exact injury prognosis. Only thing we know is 4 broken bones.

As already explained earlier in the thread, bones in the back and ribs are not mutually exclusive.

Senior should take a rest vs Browns, we're good enough to trash them even with Steve sitting. After 2 weeks he will feel much better.

We are? Don't they have a good top secondary?

Outside Gipson, I think they are overrated. He's carrying groin injury, too. But they are notoriously bad against the run - that's where we will beat them.

Take your time Steve. Don't risk your future. If you never play another down for the Ravens, I love what your gave my team. If you happen to get back on the field....all I can say is "ice up man!"

Wow buddy, I don't think any game on our schedule is a gimme. We are lucky they don't have a elite wr, I wouldnt be suprised if Benjamin has a big game.

For this game the depth chart should be

1.Givens

2.Aiken

3. Waller

4. Random tall fan

5. Marlon

The past three or four ( at least ) Browns meetings have been pretty hard fought, close games.

There will be no trashing.

As long as Smith is healthy for the Monday Night Game against Arizona, I'm ok. Don't think we need him for the Browns or 49ers game. If the OL is starting to open up holes and Forsett can carry the load a bit, the run game can help mask our WR woes until Smith gets back.

be nice if we gave up a 2nd and 6th or something like that for  jeffery....do it ozzie..you can't draft WR's so just get one this way..

I always forget we have the Browns and 49ers next. We might not need him. Browns I think will be tougher than the 49ers. The 49ers look really bad. But we look bad at times too so we shall see.

So with Steve out we're missing our top two WR's, no. 1 TE, starting LT, best OLB and starting DE. Sick.

Technically with Pitta injured we're actually missing our two top TEs as well.  What other QB has to play a game without his top 2 WRs, top 2 TEs, and without his LT?  That's a lot of key pieces of the puzzle missing.

And all of that happened within the first quarter of the season. Realistically speaking, it's probably going to get even worse by the end.

I would never have thought that Webb and Jimmy would outlast so many.

Reminder: this thread is about SSS and possibly our WR situation, maybe even our injury situation. It certainly is not about comparing DBs, so knock it off.

So if he misses week 4, what does our wr line up look like.... Brown, Aiken, waller. Haha this is great. And I don't Know much about givens, but the Ravens FO could of killed two birds with one stone by going after a more proven wr they would of made a difference in the future. I just see givens as just another guy

Problem is, who is available to be traded and what are you giving up to get him? Then on top of that, you are gonna be spending some serious money to pay him.

99.9 percent chance they don't make any big splash move for a receiver.

Trading a 7th for Givens mainly is because he's cheap and can return kicks.

It could get worse, or it could get better. Luck of the draw, I guess.

If we can get some of these guys back. .Gilmore,Smith,Monroe then we may have a chance to at least be competitive on offense.

Oh I know we won't pull the trigger on a proven player, was just staying what I wish for every night when I go to sleep. We will bring in a wr in FA so I'm. Hoping it's one or the guys mentioned, but could have still made something happen now. St some point these late round wrs won't work, look St our corps now... That's not helping Joe out at all. At some point Oz should pull the trigger on someone who is a starting caliber wr

lol Defense got a "pass" for injuries. But Joe's only offensive weapons (literally) go down and you wouldn't give him a "pass". This place is so very very hypicritcal.

Get better Steve. Don't do anything rash. Broken bones in your back are no joke.

I agree with you...but at the same time no one on defense is getting paid $120.6 million. People expect Joe to be able to carry the team...right or wrong.

Who's to say our former WRs won't be motivated to beat us???? I don't think either of the next two games will be that easy.
