Per team source Ravens WR Steve Smith Sr. has 4 broken bones in his back. They will put him in wait & see mode (day 2 day) #ravenstalk cont

I hope this is more rumor than fact.  This could be the real reason why Chris Givens was brought in although I don't pretend to think he's anywhere as good as Senior.

Oh man, this totally sucks. I don't know how his status will play out. The injury to our WR group has been unbearable. Crockett will have to be our #1 option in the coming weeks if he returns.

Admittedly I am far from a doctor.

But it would seem to me that if any side line analysis even hinted at this being a possibly he would have been x-rayed right away. He would not have been allowed to jog and ride the bike on the sideline.

But I could be wrong. What do I know.

Well if true we will see if Joe can carry this team on his back with a bunch of terrible receivers .

If this news is true.  It would really test Joe to see what he can do.   I wouldn't give Flacco a 'pass' for a bad season.   But I definately do not want see our team go 4-12.

Waited too long for this season just to dump it off like this.   Something very special can happen if our offense can find a way to revive this team.

It doesn't look good. I heard what he experienced is really painful and Steve Smith has a very high pain tolerance, if he couldn't get back on the field than that doesn't sound like good news to say the least.

They could be slight breaks . Smith is one tough mutha

Once again the Front office is setup with no receiver depth . Sorta like corner depth last year . We had plenty of safeties though !

I'm sorry but the Front Office has made a lot of mistakes the last couple of seasons since Super Bowl win .

This is a huge blow if he's going to miss time.  There's no question that Steve is one of the toughest dudes in the NFL, but back injuries aren't anything to play with.  I'd love to see him out there toughing it out, but I wouldn't want to risk anything long-term for his sake if there's a possibility.

The lack of quality options at WR is really catching up to us.

We ruined Steve's last season by brig a horrible team. He literaly broke his back carrying this team.

He desveres better.

We're sorry Steve. I severely hope this doesn't affect him long term.

On #Ravens WR Steve Smith: I'm told it's actually 4 broken ribs, which is considered a short-term injury because... Well because Steve Smith

I have an easier time believing ribs based on my comments above and how he was holding him self on Thursday night.

This is a sigh of relief.

He didn't get hit in the ribs ! He got hit in the back !!

I understand if you don't know human anatomy. The human ribcage extends from the spine and covers the chest. This means your ribs are also located on your "back." He didn't get hit on his spine, which is where vertebrae are located.

So if he misses week 4, what does our wr line up look like.... Brown, Aiken, waller. Haha this is great. And I don't Know much about givens, but the Ravens FO could of killed two birds with one stone by going after a more proven wr they would of made a difference in the future. I just see givens as just another guy

Does any team get get the amount of injuries we do year in year out? Obviously SSS should rest this week against Cleveland and see how he feels the following week. This is Darren Waller's big break, he's going to have to be a factor in this offense or we're looking forward to 2016.

NBC Sports published an article about 30 min ago reiterating broken bones in his back, but their source is still Chick Hernandez. Will be interesting to see if and when Harbaugh comments on this, and quite frankly given his recent track record with Perriman's cluster whether any of us will take him at his word. Heck, good luck to the organization telling SSS he won't be talking to the media. B)

actually, 2013 turned into CJ Mosley

And that was only pick 17. We might be looking much lower

The Giants might have had the best depth at cornerback than any other team last year and just about all there cornerbacks got hurt. Truth is anything can happen even when you called your self prepared for it.  I don't understand the"once again The Front office is setup with no receiver depth " statement.  We had solid depth at receiver last year but no way could The Ravens predict Perriman would be out this long and they didn't really have alot cap space to get any body that could be more than number 3 receiver.

Unlike Chykie Brown and Asa Jackson the young receivers did show something during the regular season to alleast be considered serviceable.

I'm not usually one to step in on these types of debates, but I don't see how you can't.  I'm pretty sure almost everyone knew counting on Aiken and Brown to play large roles was a bad idea.  Even with Perriman, there was a severe lack of any semblance of a proven option outside of Steve Smith.  Like CB when we decided to roll with Chykie and Asa as the #3/4, I think most of us correctly predicted this.  You can't predict injuries, but you have to be prepared in case they happen, and this was a case of us not being prepared.
