[News] Ravens Trade For WR Chris Givens, Send Michael Campanaro To Injured Reserve

204 posts in this topic

They are now saying (whoever THEY are) its his ribs not his back.

How does one get hit in the back and break ribs... in the front? Maybe Camp should think about his football future after this one. :tombstone:

Doesn't it seem like signing Daniel Brown would be a good move. It would give us an extra body at receiver, a big body at that. And he still has to earn his rep so he will be cheap to sign. I say get him in there for Flacco to throw some deep balls his way.

Camp flashed such great potential but he is injured more than Danny Amendola, don't know what to make of him anymore.

i totally get the ravens mindset in the front office to not waist a draft pick on AJ however if they commit to signing him to replace SR than its not a waist

Has Camp had a history of being injury-prone?

Not really, but if you have ever seen him in street clothes you know why he is always hurt in the NFL. Some guys are just too small for the NFL.

It could still happen because it looks like smith will be on IR soon.

See this is how I envision Campanaro's reality. He's an atheltic normal guy with bones like normal guys, only he's missing that survival gene that tells us not to run full speed into a brick wall just for fun. That's his equivalent of the NFL. He's fearless and will do any crazy thing you ask him, and be more than willing to break every bone in his body as a consequence. If he runs, he has to run until ever ligament tears. If he dives, it has to be head first into a MLB. He's the consumate "go hard, or go home" guy.

I'll just assume the broken ribs are on the backside of his rib cage.

camponaro should retire. he is in the rg3 mold of being too brittle. maybe this givens kid can do something when he learns the playbook but has anyone heard if he is a burner. can he be a deep threat? wish sss a fast return but as i posted earlier he no longer has the body to play a full game of reps. we need to bring in some veterans and sign one of them. if marlon does not step up his game i hope he is released. this wr situation could get very ugly. poor flacco

You do know the ribcage wraps all the way around and connects to the spine in the back, right?

we could also bring Butler up from PS. Givens is a good fit. He was really productive before they drafted Travis Austin. You have to congratulate Ozzie for acting so fast.

our 6 and 7th rd picks never amount to anything so no big loss especially if this kid becomes something here

NFL.com is reporting SSS injury is 4 broken ribs and it's NOT a long-term injury, not surgical tissue. So looks like Sr will be back eventually during regular season after week by week assessment.

Wow, bad stroke of luck there Camp!

"Reed20Fence" made a good point about him being an "all out" kind of guy and that has probably contributed to his injury bug. Hate to see it, he had an awesome career ahead of him but now I just don't think it's going to happen.

Time to hit up the PS.

Givins may be a good pickup, we'll have to see but he's 3" taller than Camp and I haven't heard that he has a lingering knee thing or a concussion issue so it's a start in the right direction I guess.

Givens clocked a 4.25 according to the draft profile website. He was a KR and deep threat in St. Louis and had a solid 1st tear but two things went against him. 1: according to Fischer their scheme changed. 2. They drafted Tavon Austin whose skills are redundant but he's a little quicker.

Ravens just had an article up on Steve Smith and then they took it down...

New link now active

I really don't see much difference between this and the first, except they are not saying that it is definitely ribs, but that it is ribs or back and doesn't require surgery.

Well, life in the NFL is not all roses as Ravens fans knows all too well. I would not despair just yet. The trade for Givens is a decent trade. Consider this, Givens had varying 40 yds dash times, between 4.23 - 4.41, that's pretty fast, enough speed to blow off the top. Can he blow off the top? The answer is yes, at one time in the NFL, Givens caught a pass at least 50 yards long 5 games in a row. Givens has average 16 yards a catch since 2012 so far, above SSS's 13.2 since last year. Keep in mind that Flacco has 2nd highest passing yards so far in the NFL and the Rams QBs are no where near Flacco's production, something that could help Givens break out again like he did in 2012-2014. Givens could be that hidden gem we been looking for in recent weeks. He was suspended for breaking team rules but will not hold that against him as it was in his rookie season. Aiken is getting better. Joe has an arm that Givens never had as a QB throwing to him. This could be a good thing for everybody. I'll just wait and see what happens when Givens is on the field in a Ravens uniform, we might be surprise, I hope so. Welcome to Baltimore Chris and best of luck.

DOnt be surprised if OZ picks up another receiver next week. Tight ends work if you have WR's that are threats. Givens has speed and could help a lot. Maybe Hakim Nicks would be a look see..

Note to Ravens: Make a BIGGER trade. with SSS hurt for who knows how long ...this is not good.

How do you know this is not good? He has not played a game yet for the Ravens and already you are saying it is not good. His average yards per catch is 16 yards which is pretty good since 2012 under QBs no where near as good as Joe. Joe will be the best QB in his career compare to other QBs since college. I think this is a good deal. How about just wait and see how this pans out first. Who do you think Ozzie should have traded for without giving up too much?

Mind-numbing frustration to see SSS and Camp injury reports despite anticipating some bad news. Well, this is going to be another couple of challenges the Ravens will need to hurdle. Watching SSS play is so entertaining and exciting. Now I am totally bummed at the thought of him not playing, even for 1 game, much less possibly several. What a commanding presence, what a dominant player.
