2015-2016 Coaching Carousel

311 posts in this topic

Yes it's early for this, but the Raiders fired Dennis Allen after a trip to London that resulted in a loss and that was week four of last year. Fast forward to week four of 2015 and it could be the Dolphins making coaching changes if they lose to the Jets tomorrow in London.

Reports say that if the Dolphins lose tomorrow to the Jets, changes to the coaching staff could be coming.

"If the team loses three in a row, don't be shocked if someone on that coaching staff gets fired," one well-placed source said. "We've been going out there, and practicing our (tails) off every day, but as players, we're tired of being embarrassed," said one member of the Dolphins. "If we get beat in Europe, (players) are going to throw in the towel. It isn't the players. We have all the talent in the world."

Discuss away the potential firing of Joe Philbin on Monday if the Dolphins lose to the Jets tomorrow and who else is on the hot seat and could be next?

Well, the Dolphins did lose, so we'll see what happens.

Going on high noon and nothing yet. Schefter reports that if Joe Philbin were to be fired today, TE coach Dan Campbell would be the leading candidate to replace him as the Interim Head Coach. PFT also reports that Stephen Ross is more likely to fire Defensive Coordinator Kevin Coyle than to fire Philbin.

Called it JO

The irony in it is the Dolphins beat the Raiders in London last year that got Dennis Allen fired. Jets beat the Dolphins in London that a year later gets Philbin fired.

So if the Jets play in London next year we know what to expect

I guess lol. Wonder if the Dolphins fire Defensive Coordinator Kevin Coyle as well and attempt to bring in Jim Schwartz as their new DC for the rest of the season.

That would be an interesting one, could potentially be a good move as their defense has not done well and you have the familiarity with Suh.

Philbin was never a good coach, just watching/listening to him gave you everything you need to know.

Hard Knocks is Exhibit A.

After hearing about this Oklahoma drill being used and the HC saying he's going to toughen up the team. Safe to say, he thought Philbin was soft

Coach billick had an interesting take on this saying the interim guy has to just change the way they've been doing things. Even if it's just bs changes. Practice drills etc. try to spark the guys with change.

So now the Lions are joining the Dolphins in making changes to their coaching staff. Have to wonder if Caldwell isn't too far behind out the door as well.

Ian Rapport reports that Jim Mora(UCLA), Kevin Sumlin(Texas A & M) and Brian Kelly(Notre Dome) are open to NFL jobs next season. I would add Stanford's David Shaw as a potential NFL Head Coach next year as well. Rapport says he is hearing Brian Kelly's best fit would be with the New York Giants if they move on from Tom Coughlin.

Some interesting news late Monday Night coming out of Houston. Head Coach Bill O'Brien wanted to cut Ryan Mallett but Texans GM Rick Smith refused to do so. Another GM and Head Coach who aren't seeing eye to eye.

Something's got to give. But seriously, how could someone defend Mallett after he missed the team flight? Makes no sense to me at all.

He also missed a practice start during the camp (overslept), the day after Hoyer was given a starting job, as seen on Hard Knocks.

Honestly though, this is all on Rick Smith who should be fired at the end of the season. He hasn't been able to find the Texans a Franchise QB since he's been there. He was hired in June of 2006, his first draft as GM was 2007 as Charlie Casserly was the GM for the 2006 draft before being let ago a month or so later. Smith was the one who traded for Mallet in the first place, he brought in Hoyer this year. He had Ryan Fitzpatrick, let him go and Fitzpatrick is doing great in New York.

Rod Graves was the former Cardinals GM and was fired for his ability to not find a Franchise QB, and the Cardinals finished 5-11 the year he was fired. Texans look like they may be 2-14 again.

Mallett's going to be upset when he wakes up.

He might hear about it the next day, when he remembers he should have shown up to practice.

So based how the season is through the first seven weeks, who do you think will be fired at the end of the year?

Add Jim Schwartz to the list of coaching candidates in 2016. Schwartz, who took the year off working for the NFL in their office says he wants to return to coaching next season.

“What I’ve been afforded is the chance to make sure that any opportunity I take is the best choice,” Schwartz said. “Look at Tom Coughlin after Jacksonville. He was able to find a very good opportunity with the Giants. It’s easy to look around and point out some coaches in the past where their second opportunity came in a place that might not have been the most conducive for success, and for some of them, that’s the last you heard of them. You can get a second chance. You’re not going to get two more chances.”

I don't think it'll happen, but if we took him back as a QB coach I'd be beyond thrilled.
