333 posts in this topic

this kid reminds me of torrey smith has 4.4 speed and has drop issues but is a deep threat! had a great rookie season now he has joe flacco throwing to him hopefully steve smith comes back soon. I do think he sticks around next year. this is a good pick up

Some confusion on Rams compensation for Chris Givens. It's a 7th in 2018, but changes to a 7th in '17 based on # of games played this year.

This is the worst trade I've EVER seen. The Rams got screwed BIG time. They said "we'll give you the worst pick possible in THREE YEARS for your young WR. They pretty much gave this guy away. Hope Givens becomes notable just to piss the Rams off.

Where did you get that?

Rams really did virtually give this guy away and many of their fans have said he's just another victim of their inability to utilize WR's properly (see Tavon Austin).

Bold Prediction: In a few weeks Givens is basically Torrey-lite. He doesn't catch a high volume of passes but he takes the top off the defense and can be that 20+ yd threat that also draws a few big PI's. I honestly like his chances of re-upping with us this offseason as we cut the dead weight at WR. Would love to see a 2016 group consisting of:

1. Perriman

2. (Draft Pick)

3. Givens

4. Aiken

5. Waller

6. Campanaro

Torrey's across the country and still getting disrespected by Raven fans smh

You know it's bad when you see people saying they miss Jacoby more than Torrey.

It's ironic that Torrey Smith exploded onto the scene against the Rams and it's possible they may have given us a guy to replace Torrey. Lol. It's just a bit funny. We also play the Rams later this year, too. That game got more interesting.

I really do think he just might end up replacing Torrey to the surprise of many around here. With Givens track speed all he has to do is get vertical (Which Rams fans said he was the best at on the team, which I didn't expect) and with Flacco's arm he will put db's in some risky situations where they either get caught flat footed and give up a big play or they get overly anxious and get called for PI.

Torrey was a product of our system and Joe (Not to say that he didn't work hard but it's the truth), he has 2 absolute duds already this year in SF. 11 yds in week 1 and was held without a catch in week 3. He had one big game against Pitt in a blowout where the majority of his yds came in garbage time and the 49ers threw the ball 50 times. Torrey really would've been wise to take the Randall Cobb route and take less money to play in a vastly superior situation. I can't fault him at all for wanting the money but from a football perspective it's going to unravel rather quickly for him.

With that said I see no reason why Givens can't be similar to Torrey in our offense. Torrey is far from a world beater, he just has some serious wheels on him and that was good enough with how Joe can launch the deep ball.

if our oline keeps playing the way it is Joe might have to call in sick

ok..when we end up 5-11 at best..cue the our receivers are sheer crap..we had no shot ..lets get real..joe had no weapons etc

you can copy and paste this as a reference. today 3rd october 2015

Why do you say "our" when all you do is talk down about the team. You have to believe. Maybe we can ride the running game into some wins? It did come to life on Thursday. I don't think we will be a playoff contender this year. We will however play better than you anticipate.

it's a win win for him. He calls us out and says we are going to suck, if we only win 6 games or so he can say he was right. If he's wrong and we make a run ans make the playoffs or just miss out, he's glad to be wrong bc "his team" turned it out.

We won't even know the draft pick tho, for all we know it can be LaQuan Treadwell or Tyler Boyd. Would you call a pairing between Perriman and Treadwell or Boyd rusty?

nah we'll pick up a solid free agent. we will not be going into next season with a bunch of 3rd and 4th string caliber WR's and rookies.

Because unlike your baby Davis THIS guy has had a good SEASON.

I haven't seen every snap of his career, but I've had the chance to watch each one of his targets including the preseasons minus his 2013 contest against Atlanta, due to a system error. I'm not certain which season you're referring to, but his 2012 and 2013 campaigns were generally categorized as up and down and he earned negative grades in each of his three seasons per PFF as well as this year, so if you're judging by past resumes, that's not a valid argument.

That being said, I thought his skill set was more encouraging than his overall performance to date. Honestly, he seems like an ideal fit, especially with Michael Campanaro sidelined, and I feel that he has a higher ceiling in Baltimore than in St. Louis. Givens was at times used on end-arounds and screen passes where he showed a good feel in open space, so he adds the versatility factor. He's not among the fastest players in the league but he has enough wheels to take the top off of the defense (Link1Link2, Link3, Link4). I thought he was more effective in slant routes from the slot compared to the outside where he had difficulties in coming down with the ball with the CB bearing down, though he was quite effective when given a cushion on the outside slants. He had some mind-boggling drops, several of which came after finding separation (Link1, Link2, Link3, Link4). A number of drops or near-misses unfortunately came on deep throws (Link1, Link2). I thought he was able to separate very well on in-breaking routes, especially in the intermediate range (Link1, Link2, Link3, Link4). I personally feel that he'll do more damage than anticipated with Joe Flacco on said throws. He's able to sky for the ball at times but he consistently had a tough time adjusting to underthrown balls and especially low but catchable ones. He looked awkward when attempting to drive for the latter and he didn't fight for the ball very well when coming back to the throw. I thought that his tape was largely inconsistent, but the tools are certainly there. Solid trade on our end. I could see him contributing him relatively early into his days on the active roster. I've made a plethora of cut ups of examples of the plays above and will add links to said examples tomorrow for anyone interested in seeing him in action.

Les Snead is one of the worst GMs in football and has mismanaged a talented roster. That's why the trade details are what they are.

We'll probably pick up at least one player in FA too, irrespective of our draft plans. I'm surprised that hasn't been brought up yet.

I've personally brought it up many times, predicting a Vincent Jackson, Roddy white, or a Pierre Garcon move

I think we'll put in serious work into WR as well but I understand the concern since we know nothing of Perriman. Just saying that #2 could be a pretty good player.

Yeah I've been vocal about Vincent Jackson from Tampa Bay coming here if he gets cut(which I think will happen). He would be a legit #2 here.

he was a running back in high school and got moved to the slot in college. We would be best served to stick him in Campanaro's old role as opposed to using him like Torrey

I like the Vjax and Garcon names being thrown out there. Wouldn't mind either one of those two for the right price.

Roddy White seems average at this point in his career, plus I think he'd like to retire a Falcon.

You could put Amendola on Roddy's tier as an underwhelming possession receiver who might be cut.

Mike Wallace is another possibility. I don't like him myself, but he is basically Torrey Smith (with attitude problems).

I'm liking what I see of Treadwell. He looks like a great physical possession receiver to pair with a deep threat like Perriman. Hopefully his lack of speed puts him in our draft range. Boyd probably goes too high.

I'd love any one of those guys.

Still hoping Givens breaks breaks out for us, though.

Not to mention the disappearance of a lot of dead money.

If would have to be another high WR draft pick, if that player is to assume the WR2 position. I think Ozzie might focus on pass rush and secondary in the top of next year's draft.

the key is to see how well they restructure joe flacco's contract. Heck maybe take a paycut. if we can do a good job there, we could be looking at 34 million plus in cap space before resignings
