[News] Late For Work 10/2: Ravens Breathe Second Life Into Season

131 posts in this topic

Great Win we still have a life left in the season! I know Ozzie does not read any of the these, but Please Ozzie go out and make the trade with Bears and get Alshon Jeffrey from the Bears. I don't care if you have to give up a first round pick to do it. Get Joe another weapon!

They said that AJ is the one play that is NOT on the trading block. We are going to have to give up the farm with more than a first round pick to get him and I am not sure we could work out his salary cap hit because he is expecting to get paid! IMHO, it is way too much of a long shot to get excited over.

We got more than lucky to win this one. Thanks to our Dfense in 3-4 Quarter . I don't think jimmy smith is a good number 1 CB #2 at best, he gets burn every week now and big time and for me he doesnt deserve all his salary the last 4 games. The OL is not able to stop the pass rush it is ridiculous. The WORST FOR ME was these call 3 and 1 and the 4 and 1 quarterback sneak!!!! EVERYBODY KNEW WE WOULD DO THAT the run and the quarter back sneak WHYYYY DOING IT!!! C'Mon this is all on coaching and a bad one. Seriously i have said it here before i'm not happy with Trestman and was doubting since day one and the last 7 games didnt help. As a RavensNation fan it was hard to watch. We did win that game but not because we played well. This is the NFL and this kind of performance aint going to bring us nowhere.

1. Andrew Luck's offensive line was never alright... its been annually amongst the worst in the league for several years now, and generally the defense and running game has been as well.

2. Speed is great when you know how to use it, and when your Oline can block long enough for the QB to deliver down field. That hasn't really happened that well so far this year, guys like Torrey and Jacoby were mostly known for speed, not just getting open.

There are plenty of receivers in this league with "mediocre" speed by NFL standards that can consistently create separation. We don't have any of those guys, and we haven't for quite some time. Steve Smith has actually been better at it this year than last year.

There is a pretty good list of QBs who make bad offensive lines and really bad WRs look really, really, really good.

It is a team sport. A quarterback dishing out the ball isn't the only player on the team. Colts offensive line was ranked 17th last season it isn't that terrible, barely in the bottom half. Luck has guys who get open a majority of the time that made them one of the top offenses in the league last season. Now this season they are struggling to do anything at all.

I think the defense deserves more credit than they are receiving. Our offense, and play calling was putting the defense in really bad spots, especially with the turnovers and how many times we didn't convert on 4th down, that they were able to hold it together. Even the Leveon TD run, should have no doubt ended in a FG after watching all of the obvious holding on the play. I saw a great team effort defensively, but I will never understand why our corners would play 15 yds off the ball on 1st and 10. You are pretty much saying here is another first down Pittsburgh. If we could figure that out, there might be more hope for this unit.

The terrible towel is for Steeler fan tears? I actually do feel sorry for Scobee. Too soft to watch interviews with the guy who just lost the game. Rick Wagner's tackle was a thing of beauty! Tucker is the man to pay, this is not the first game he has won the Ravens. I hope Camp in a wheelchair is just a precaution before the x-ray results. Can't have 3 promising WRs sidelined, Ravens are in WR hell as it is.

And i forgot the worst of last night MARLON BROWN !!! How can a professional NFL player drop so many passes??? My only hope is that we put him on the bench. I was mad at Flacco last week cuz Marlon was open deep but now i do understand Flacco. Why throwing toward him when you know he will drop it. You can not make 1 catch out of 10 if your playing like a ravens. I have seen enough of Marlon this year

Defense was solid for sure. My favorite part was seeing two great defensive stops by Will Davis. I wonder if he will be a steal like Corey Graham was for us a couple years ago. He looked very good and sharp and always timed his jumps to defend the ball right. I remember Webb missing the ball earlier in the game as it soared behind him with a mistimed jump. Our safeties have been solid too Keenan Lewis hasn't had great plays so far but he isn't giving up big ones either so I am okay with that. Already looks like an upgrade over Darian Stewart.

I agree I saw that last night and almost forgot. I loved him as a rookie but last year and this year I have been very disappointed while some still see promise.... Aiken is the clear #2 and he has the raw talent to be so with his speed and size, just needs to find the ball more. Campanaro is clearly the #3 as long as he isn't injured with reports of him being in a wheelchair.

i forgot to say skip bayless is actually respecting ravens but not Flacco even though flacco made key throws in late in the 4th and OT.

Well to be fair, while he did come through at the end, it was a horrible game from Flacco. I was actually amazed his stats were around the average range and not rock bottom.

You guys need to realize that Marlon runs routes that are designed to get others open... he's usually not the main option on plays... the only drop he's had was last week's game.. the second play of the game was designed for him...but a big hit knocked the ball loose... Marlon's routes are designed to keep Smith from getting doubled... If you know anything about route combination... you will understand... also... he's one of the best run blocking WR on the team... his blocking is what allow SSS to hit the sideline for his touch down last week... he played more snaps than Kamar this game... production isn't only measured receiving yards... someone has to do the dirty work... and he still plays special teams covering punts and kick offs... true team player!!!

Lucky to get a win. This team needs a lot of work still.

The win was earned! I will agree with that the teams needs work. There is always room for improvement, even if the team was undefeated.

Great Win. Don't know if anyone else noticed, but Lardarius Webb even looked like his old self for the first time in a while last night. Za'Darius Smith stepped right into the "harass Steeler quarterbacks" role. Like I said yesterday, this team is at its best when it wins ugly. That's just how it is.

..oh and I'd like to welcome back all of the fair-weather fans who left the team for dead after the 0-3 start. Don't worry....I'll wait...

Glad BIGHEADSPORTS tweeted the shot of that ridiculously obvious holding that led to the steelers TD. I think the NFL needs to start holding the officials responsible for bad/no calls. They fine the players, why not the zebras?

Correct, it is. Where I have the problem is with the notion that QBs are overrated.

Teams with weak defenses can win consistently in this league. Teams with weak offensive lines can win consistently in this league. Teams with weak receiver cores and/or weak running games can win consistently in this league. Teams with weak ST can win consistently in this league.

There isn't a single team I've seen in the last 5 years or so who wins consistently without at least an average to an above average QB. Not one.

Great QB + pedestrian play at almost every single position on the field = playoff team. Great QB + greatness at one or two other key positions on the team + largely pedestrian play elsewhere = SB team.

There's a reason they're paid a lot more than most other positions.

No argument its a team sport, but there's no dispute that QB is the most vital position on that field and they can mask a lot of weaknesses.

gutsy win. need to bring in receivers this week. sss will not last the season at this pace. camponaro is too brittle which is a shame because he has skills. webb was awful for most of the game but again i am grateful for the win

It's not the first time this season that flags have stayed in the pockets of the officials when they should have been thrown in our favour. In fact, it must be about the 10th time and it's getting silly; especially as they get thrown against us at nearly every opportunity.

After the way the first 3 games played out, we are in the best position possible at the moment. Won a tough game, 10 days to recover, and key players coming back to play at home.

We got a couple calls and no calls in our favor last night, so I wouldn't complain too much about the officiating.

As it were, NFL officials actually are held accountable for their jobs. They are rated on a weekly basis, and they are demoted if they don't perform to an acceptable level.

I understand the acceptable level by fan standards is 100% accuracy, but luckily the NFL doesn't think that way.

I agree that the defense played better but keep in mind that Michael Vick was at QB - not exactly Manning, Brady, Luck, Dalton. And I think they got helped by some terrible play calling by the Squealers. Bell was running all over the Ravens, I don't know why they didn't feed him the ball more. Even in obvious run situations against a stacked line, he still got 4-5 yards. I saw some terrible tackling and players quitting on the play (Bell's run on the outside, Zuttah looking around while his man sacked Joe, Brown's punt return, etc).

That snoop dogg video cracked me up. Poor scobee.

1) Justin tucker has ice in his veins

2) wasn't pretty but a w is a w just like a L is a L

3) didn't see much of babin, but how bout will Davis ?

4) was very happy to not see many flags and was refreshing to see the officials let the players play.

4) we are in dyer need of an offensive playmaker. When sss and campanaro went down I thought we literally had no shot. I knew Steve wouldn't last long this game and that he would be pretty beat up. I thought we already were going to add a receiver after the news about perriman broke , but now esp if camp is down for a while Ozzie will look to add somebody. I mean damn we were down to 3 receivers. Have a feelin we might give Wes walker a look to replace camp. Not a huge fan but it will be better than nothin.

5) perfect time to have 10 days of rest to get healed up and then head back to the bank for another important divisional matchup.

I was nervous the whole 2nd half...but way to grind it out. I must say the play off the game was Kendrick Lewis tripping up Le'Veon Bell on his longest run in OT, after he broke that tackle by CJ mosely and sprinted up the sideline I just knew he was gone. But Lewis brought him down and they ended up failing on 4th down. This game should serve as a blueprint for dean pees, when u bring pressure good things happen, when u dont you give up plays and put ur defense in some messed up situations. We have a real shot at 3-3 these next 2 weeks with CLE and SF up next. if we can go into the bye week 5-3, or at worst 4-4, the back half of our schedule seems more favorable with all of those home games. Maybe SSS and Camp injuries are blessings in disguise, because now waller will get 1st team work and he and Joe can practice those jump balls, and back shoulders, because this guy is 6'6 and runs a 4.4 Joe has to take advantage of this matchup nightmare. Also, u can neg me for this but i believe if SSS was still in the game, we woulda lost becuase Joe would have tried to force the ball to him. but rest easy for these 10-11 days...see yall on the 11th!!!

If Marlon is as bad as you guys think he is... why was it Kamar's snaps affected to let Camp get on the field... I watched the CSN Raven post game show... and they were begging for Trestman to find a way to get Marlon involved... no one is talking about how he beat Pacman off the line on the final play but Flacco decided to throw it to Maxx over the middle... I am not ready to cast judgement on this young man until he's given plays in the game plan..

when our safety is tackled from behind right in front of the ball carrier the call has to be made. Harbaugh and his poor decisions almost lost this game for us, luckily Tomlin made even worse calls. our team now has a pulse, it's weak, but it's finally there!

When people start throwing around words like "elite" to describe football players, Justin Tucker, not Joe Flacco, should be in the sentence. Flacco almost made the Ravens 0-4. His awful interception and then his ridiculous fumble both gave the Steelers points. A truly "elite" quarterback takes care of the ball. If the Ravens don't lock up Tucker, they are dumber than a rock. While Flacco stumbles, Tucker excels in his craft. No one, that is NO ONE, is more important to the Ravens than Tucker. If the Ravens could only draft wide receivers and defensive backs of the same calibur as this guy, we would be a lock for the Division.

Another Perspective on the non holding call. Was it an obvious miss ? Of course but I can live with the refs keeping the flags in their pockets all game. Last night had a much better pace of play and it was all about the guys on the field not the zebras and I would take that any and every day of the week

On the Leveon Bell reverse field touchdown. Am I the only one who saw Steelers #46 tackle, hold and almost rip the helmet off of the Ravens defender, who was in position to make the tackle for a loss? How could the back judge miss this?

Great team win! Always tough playing those Steelers. I loved the call made before overtime at the coin toss. That decision by Marshal Yanda to make the Steelers offense go up against the wind really came back to haunt them so thanks for the gift Josh Scobee!
