Yes - because your picture is your profile picture that other people see when they click your username.

If you would like that to be your AVATAR (the picture that shows up with all your posts), then go to 'My Controls' and click on 'Edit Avatar Settings' on the left hand side, which will allow you to set that picture as your avatar.
