WR Depth?

72 posts in this topic

With Perriman not coming back any time soon, Smith with the back injury, and Camp apparently being taken out of the locker room in a wheelchair, I figure the Ravens have to sign someone to play WR. Problem is we don't have much Cap room left to sign anyone that could make a big impact.

So what do you think they are gonna do?

If Camp is truly injured long-term, I think they promote Butler from the PS. However, there is no news to suggest Camp is seriously injured.

There aren't any FA WRs worth a roster spot.

Prolly right...they'd bring Butler up. I'd hate to see them bring in one of those old WRs like the Giants worked out this week.

Your wrong, they are a few deep threat guys on the market, Brandon Lloyd and Robert Meachem. I would rather Lloyd as the first choice. Check out is stats http://www.cincyjungle.com/2015/7/29/9067063/best-nfl-free-agent-wide-receivers-market, Ozzie needs to free up enough cap room to make this happen.

Brandon Lloyd is a known locker room problem, or at least has been throughout his career.

They don't really have the cap space for any real big name trade.  Jeffrey would be possible if he agreed to an extension.  Probably is it would still cost more than is current cap hit and more than we can likely pay

I heard Camp was taken to the bus in a wheelchair.. what did he hurt?

I think it's his back just like Steve Smith.

I don't think Butler gives us anything we don't already have. I would rather see Ross activated. He has decent speed and could help on returns.

So why isn't he on a team already if he's a really good player?

Hint: we all already know the answer to this.

I say they just give Waller more reps and Ross as well.  Fragile Campanaro is out again so we need a return man.  SSS should NOT be a return man anymore as he's been getting hurt this season.  We're lucky it's been nothing too serous.  Might as well promote Ross to the active roster as a return man and just play the 4 WRs we currently have.  With the way the TEs are playing, if Trestman is smart he can make this offense move forward without the need for more than 4 WRs

Right, I'm kind of surprised we haven't seen Juice and Forsett more involved in the passing game. Camp looked like he was finally getting some good looks before he went down. But I thought the rbs would have been more of a focus.

Find me a recent article about him being a headcase, that rumor started when he was with the sorry skins and people keep labeling him as that. He is not playing because most teams outside of the ravens have excellent young receiver depth. He is worth bringing in.

So was SSS, but he had problems with the skins and i think thats expected, playing for those buffoons.

Naw Naw, we don't need anymore WRs because according to some people (pretty sure not Ravens fans), "I'm surprised this hasn't happened to a majority of their receivers with how they have to carry flacco." - Some Moron on ESPN. He was referring to SSS injury btw. Also "Ozzie Newsome and the Ravens have surrounded him with over the years from their o-line to defense to WR/TE's." - Some Other Moron on ESPN. So idk why guys think we need more weapons. /sarcasm.

In all seriousness though, yea Brandon Lloyd is an option though he didn't do anything in SF so who knows if he would be any use. I also believe old man Reggie Wayne and concussed Wes Welker are out there. *woo...* I always liked Hakeem Nicks so maybe him too.

It should be obvious to the most casual observer that we need help right away to bolster our WR corps. The current crop of receivers does not have what it takes to succeed on a consistent basis. The TD throw Joe made to Aiken was a perfectly thrown fade pass on a timing pattern. It was nearly dropped. A later throw to Waller was catchable but dropped. Another well-thrown ball to Marlon Brown was dropped. Its time to call Reggie. He'll play like a Raven and will catch Joe's laser-like passes.

Unfortunately, there is no next man up because he is not on our active roster or the practice squad.

On second thought...maybe they'd give serious thought to trading for Alshon Jeffrey now or some other WR via trade.

This is obvious Sarcasm, Alshon Jeffrey is not on the trading block. I find it comical that anyone would suggest because the Bears dumped some less premier players, that they would dump one of their best players.

Even if they were, he was a top draft pick, and would command multiple 1st rounders to acquire.

Reggie Wayne is not an answer. The only available player I would consider is Lloyd, and possibly Meachem (though I really liked his potential as a rookie, he wasn't able to do much when he was with Brees)

Actually, had nothing to do with him being a headcase.

I take name a half dozen teams probably that have equal or less receiver depth than we do, and none of them want Brandon Lloyd either.

He is not playing because 32 NFL teams don't deem him worthy to be on their roster. Nothing advanced about it.

I don't see what problem he solves or how he makes this team better, so I have no reason to suspect he will be a part of this team.

Other than the fact he was seen in a wheel chair.

Still not sure why Reggie Wayne chose to leave New England , first I heard they cut him then I heard he asked for his release. Haven't heard anything else about it but not sure why he wouldn't want to play for New England catching balls from Tom Brady unless he was going to retire. Odd situation, but his vet experience would be a plus.

I also think we may give Wes welker a look to fill in for camp in the slot. Not a big fan of his but he is a veteran and has pretty good hands. He can pretty much do what camp was able to do. Not many other options unless we just promote from within.

Jeremy butler will probably get brought up, but Ross is an option too since we need to fill camps KR spot. Don't know much about him either though. A big name being aquired via trade would be nice , but either way it's pretty safe to say we have to do something.

Here one right here when he was with The Patriots back in 2013 http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/02/26/report-patriots-got-tired-of-brandon-lloyds-behavior/

Honestly Lloyd a talented receiver but  he's 34 years old and hasn't played football in months now. If The Ravens had interest in him they would have to hope he is in game shape and  Lloyd would have to get up to speed with the playbook... The Ravens don't have alot cap space to trade for a player that most likely making more than 2 or so million right now and  if Camp can't play before the next game then the need for a  returners is strong.

I can see them simply promoting Jeremy Ross to active roster whom has experiences as a returner and enough speed to make plays deep.

I feel that Aiken is better than given credit for, if he weren't playing we'd lose this game, I cannot say the same for Marlon Brown and other WRs we had besides Camp and Smith. Aiken isn't a proven starter nor should he start, but hes surely a good WR to have and would be awesome as a #3.

and he has nothing to offer after his size, so if he cant use his size then he is worthless, and if he doesnt NEED to use his size on a particular play and drops an easy pass anyway, then he is REALLY worthless.

ive always said he doesnt offer very much, but he is even worse than i have been preaching for the past 2 years. even i am shocked by how bad hes been so far, and i was his biggest naysayer lol

At this point, I think we should look into making a depth move, we were down to Waller, Brown, and Aiken at the end of the Steelers game. Some guy with decent speed at least would be nice

I can't really think of any games so far this season where Marlon Brown had to use his size to make a play. He hasn't been put in any jump ball situations  and last deep play i can remember in which he was being targeted  on was against The Raiders but Joe left him hanging and threw a bad pass.

i have 2 prior seasons full of evidence that state he is bad at using his size. spare the lone example where he highpointed a ball vs the vikings, i know he did, whoopdee doo, he still is abysmal at catching contested balls even though he is 6'5" and sturdy as an ox.

I'm not denying your evidence at all from  two years ago but what about now?  I just haven't seen Brown in any situation this year  where he had to use his size to make a play.  Brown seems to  be getting most of  his snaps from the slot . I don't think Brown has been great so far but I also don't think he has been bad or terrible either. He has been quite decent but I honestly think if we had a receiver with more speed than it would make things alot more better for a guy like Brown and the other receivers.

The only receiver that does have speed is probably Waller but i'm not sure if he's really ready to be a deep threat or should I say I'm not sure if he's ready to command respect as  a deep threat just yet.
