Week 4 Discussion(Other Teams)

464 posts in this topic

With our game in the books, I can make this thread for Sunday. Last week this thread was pretty useless as most of the games were blowouts so maybe the games will be better this week. Time for some 9:30am football this week as the Jets and Dolphins play in London.

Key Games:

Jets @ Dolphins via London: With the Patriots on a bye, the Jets need a huge win in the AFC East to stay up with the Patriots. Though it seems the Dolphins aren't playing with any heart, maybe Joe Philbin gets fired after a trip to London just like Dennis Allen got fired after the Raiders loss in London.

Giants @ Bills: Going to be an interesting game to watch. Giants are another team that just like us, could have been undefeated if they managed to not blow leads late. Bills meanwhile have to keep things going against the Giants.

Jaguars @ Colts: I wouldn't include this any other time except for the fact that Luck may follow in the steps of Ben, Brees, Cutler and Romo and miss a game due to injury. If Luck doesn't play, and he was pulled from practice, the Jaguars have a chance against a Hasselbeck led Colts team.

Vikings @ Broncos: Game of the week if you ask me. The Broncos have lucked out wins early, can AP and the Vikings finally end that lucky streak and give Denver it's first loss?

Cowboys @ Saints: The Backup Bowl. Brandon Weeden vs Luke McCown on Sunday Night Football! If this game was a week later in week five, the NFL could have saved us and flexed this game right out of SNF.

AFC North:

Chiefs @ Bengals: Andy Dalton faces a defense led by Justin Houston, can the Chiefs give us some help and give the Bengals their first loss? YES! YES! YES!

Browns @ Chargers: Not sure what's up with the Chargers this season. They don't seem like their usual self. Browns haven't won in SD since 1991, so either way expect that streak to continue with Josh McCown starting at QB.

The Chiefs had a long streak of letting us down, that is until they helped us punch a ticket to the playoffs last year by beating SD. Hopefully, that'll start a new streak of them helping us out.

Also, looks like Brees will play after all.

Apparently the Steelers are bringing in free agent Kickers Kai Forbath and Chris Boswell after Scobee's bad night on Thursday. Both will be in Pittsburgh today as the Steelers now look to replace a guy that they spent a 6th round pick for.

I guess an irate fan base is calling for his head on a platter, but IMO ... these guys aren't going to offer much different. Kicking in that building is hell and no one should know that better than the Steelers. They aren't going to find a Justin Tucker sitting around on his couch waiting to come in and drill 52 yarders in routine fashion.

When you are 1-3, you feel like you're already left to root for certain things to break your way regarding the outcome of other games. However, it is really hard to know what to wish for.

NFC vs. AFC games are of course no brainers. AFC v. AFC is a little more of a challenge.

MIA v. NYJ = Tough call. At the start of the season, I thought we'd definitely be rooting NYJ, but I'm not sure now. Is NYJ a threat for a playoff spot? I'm not sure. Everyone thought MIA was at the start of the season, but that game v. BUF was stunning. They looked horrid. I've no idea what direction to go on this one.

CLE @ SD = Well, I think we root CLE here. But, they're in our division? Yes, but for us to compete for a playoff spot, I feel like we need a sweep of CLE. So our pathway to the postseason requires that we dust CLE anyway. SD may not be a major threat, but is more of a threat than CLE.

JAX @ IND = Someone has to win the division, right? Too hard to tell what best benefits us, so - when in doubt, root against Indy

KC @ CIN = Ugh. Can both teams lose? Maybe tie? Too early to write off the division, so I think we have to root against CIN. I do worry though that KC is a primary WC threat, so wishing wins for them is hard to do.

Strangely enough, I don't see many teams we would have to fight off if we were to get back into the playoff picture for a wild card spot. Of course, division wise as I said in the "Is It the End" where the Bengals schedule gets tougher down the stretch and potentially we both could be sitting at 3-3 at the end of the next three weeks. Ben will still be out for the Steelers during that time. Now if we can't win the division.... the Wild Card picture comes down to only a few teams.

- Jets: Their defense is good but once teams have enough film on Fitzpatrick, their offense will be dead.

- Bills: May be the only legit team in the East who can contend with the Patriots.

- 2nd/3rd place teams in AFC North: We know how this goes, our division is tough so as always who doesn't win the division is thrown in the wild card picture.

- Raiders: They would have a tiebreaker over us in H2H but we need them to slip up in order to get ahead of them.

- Chiefs: I'm not too worried about the Chiefs. Alex Smith is holding this team back, and you saw how their defense got shredded by Peyton and Aaron the last two weeks.

The only way we have to worry about the Colts is if for some odd reason they don't win the division this year.

Something eerily relaxing about this Sunday without the Ravens. I'm even having all my Eagle-fan friends over to watch the games because I don't have to steal the big screen. I can just sit back, have some brews, and laugh at Kelly's crew.

Will I get to watch a single game without this draft kings or fan duel crap?

Probably not anytime this year, I bet we see more than 10 of these commercials per game.

Jets vs dolphins is a dud so far but it makes for a good day to wake up and have a football game starting at 830 , (Kansas time)

Dolphins offense is absolutely horrible

Sad thing is their WR group is better than ravens.

JENNINGS, GREG

Parker, DeVante

Stills, Kenny

Matthews, Rishard

Landry, Jarvis

Hazel, Matt

The Chiefs are almost in a "desperation" mode for this week. A loss to Cincy would put them at 1-3. Admittedly, they are going through a very tough stretch of schedule these past 3 weeks (Denver, @GB, @Cincy).

I expect a good effort from the Chiefs today. I think it'll be another tight game for the Bengals, as their goofy coaching decisions and inevitable Dalton "gaffe" once or twice a game always keeps opponets right in the game instead of the Bengals taking control. That stuff will bite the Bengals in the rear end a few times this year, and I suspect today may be one of those days.

This one could go either way.

I still like Sr and Perriman over Jennings and Parker. Landry and stills are good though.

Sr and Jennings are a wash imo,if pressed to answer i would agree with sr over Jennings but I would take Parker over perriman without a second thought. I'd even take Landry over perriman.

Dolphins have a stacked WR group but their OL is horrible and Tannehill can't throw for more than 5 yards generally.

That TD drive was 95% penalty assisted.

Not to mention, because of that same OL, they have zero run game. Their D, which I thought would be solid, has been anything but. We definitely have company in the group of early disappointing teams.

Yeah I don't think I could agree with that at all. Sure it's all assuming at this point but I think he will be better than Parker in almost every way. Edited by Cville-Raven

Imagine if the Jets had a real QB. My goodness....

Thats scary, I can imagine the Saints getting a #1 pick and getting Jared Geoff and release Brees similarly to how the Colts released Peyton. Brees would fit the Jets like a glove.
