Even when calls come from the sidelines in 2 min or tempo Flacco is given more then one play and has the freedom to quickly get the offense to the line and run another if he chooses. He isn't handcuffed any more then any other QB not named Manning in that situation.

Again in my humble opinion it comes back to a comfort level. Going up tempo and calling plays at the line usually requires the entire offense to be on the same page and right now everyone isn't there. Huddling, even if it's quick, allows everyone to get on page assignment wise.

Yeah he can't call his own plays but he can audible out at any time. Something he's been doing more and more since Cam got canned. They claimed he could do it when Cam was here but we almost never saw it, so I'm thinking it was frowned upon. I'd like if he had the freedom to call his own plays, at least in the 2 min drill, but it is difficult with new pieces each season and the OC turnover to make that a reality.

This Cleveland game is not a gimmie in any respect regardless who plays QB for Cleveland.

Cleveland plays the Ravens tough as of late and this will be another close game.

Flacco needs to protect the ball, Our depleted WR corp will have to get better at blocking because we will be running a lot!

Defense will have to learn to cover WR's as Benjamin looks good.

I'm going to be rooting for the Chiefs, Giants, Bears and I will be rooting for the Cleveland Browns.

Why ?

Caldwell allowed him to do it but then left and as you see even with Peyton Kubiak isn't comfortable letting anyone run the offense but him.

Trestman definitely gives the offense to Joe as much anyone has but with only a short time in the offense and so much youth we really won't see Joe doing too much in terms of running the offense on the fly.

I really hope that some of those receivers can distinguish themselves.

I'm actually glad that this game comes after the mini-bye. This squad obviously can't afford to take any team lightly, but the Browns in particular have been playing them hard lately.

Why ?

I'm guessing Purple City wants all of the possible wildcard competitors to lose. And perhaps a Browns win will make them less desperate going into Baltimore games?

Anyway, that sort of thing is being discussed in the week 4 (other) games thread.

This team has a different story line every week. One week it's the story about how the secondary and run game struggle while the pass game and run defense excels. Or the offense plays well and the defense doesn't. Even though I know they are capable, it's nothing about this team that says they'll play a complete game.

If the storyline is offense plays well early, I like the Ravens chances. However if the storyline is offense struggles to get home crowd in the game and secondary gives up big plays, it could be a very long day.

Hopefully finally getting a win and having a mini bye is just what the doctor ordered for the Ravens to play a complete game.

Let me start by saying there is no way this team is ever better without SSR. I'm not that crazy lol.

Now with that said I'm actually thinking being without SSR may be to blessing in disguise for the Ravens. This forces Flacco to practice with these young guys and go into a game knowing he has no choice but to rely on them. He's thrown 3 ints this season as a result of either blindly trusting SSR or just not trust other guys. This forces Flacco's hand and sometimes that's for the best.

Also it forces Trestman to focus on game planning some of these guys into the offense as much as he does with SSR. The WRs and TEs have a huge opportunity this week of practice.

I feel like San Diego is a bigger threat for the 6th seed than Cleveland.

Oh you mean today.

I thought you meant next week based on the thread.

Understood. Carry on.

Great. This conversation started because someone was wondering why it was taking so long for the team to get to the line and get ready for the play in the hurry up offense. Thanks for all this other stuff, though.

Wanna know how bad Justin Gilbert is? Someone named Johnson Bademosi (sp?) is starting ahead of him with the Browns top two corners (Haden and T. Williams) out. Not actually starting, but coming in for nickel situations. Gilbert, right now, is literally their sixth corner.

That's pretty bad.

I still expect a win. It will be a close game though. Run the ball, eat up clock, play field position, stack up a bunch of field goals and we should be 2-3.

I know exactly how it started and using the reason of Joe not being able to call his own plays isn't vaild. But your welcome.

It's gonna be a close game. The Browns defense will hold their own we just can't make turnovers and score some touchdowns. I think most games will be this season.

Regardless, Cleveland will play us tough.  Recently, they have. This is not a gimme. It's a game we should and must win to get back in this thing.

Drop the ball here and it gets more than dicey.

The Browns lost in a way only the Browns could. Oh boy

Cleveland just lost the worst way ever.

Kamar Aiken will be our #1 WR for this game...I can't even....

Welp, hopefully we can get Gilmore back, he could be our #1 option as we wait for Smith Sr and Perriman.

Ugh....Haden vs Aiken. That won't end well. I seriously have no clue how we are supposed to move the ball through the air with a terrible OL and even worse WR.

Chargers are lucky to have beaten the Browns. The Chargers did me tests the Browns suspect run defense NEARLY as much as they should have. I doubt we will make the same mistake.

I suppose *you're* suggesting than that Joe was simply standing and staring at the sidelines instead of lining up the offense for no good reason, but I disagree.

We have to remember the division is our most likely path to the postseason so I hope they are focused and beat Cleveland handily. 2-1 start to division play would be great.
