Whats happening to the ravens

We were suppposed to be superbowl comtenders? Tedy bruschi said we had the best roster in football. We keep getting injured and nothing we did in the offseason seems to be working for us. Its just a spiral downward and with all the hype of this team you have to feel almost lied to as a fan but who do you blame. A head coach who is regarded as one of the best in the past 8 years or a gm who is probably the best in the league. Jeeze we call him the wizard of oz. Im hoping we can manage to salvage this season and that means a win at Pittsburgh. Perriman being out for the year seems like a kill shot and were ending up 6-10 or worse, but hey i hope im wronge maybe we can pull off something amazing this season

Can't be good forever and fighting to not get a top 10 pick is bad longterm.

We watched different games.  I saw us outgain the Steelers by 100 yards. Dominate clock possession. Watched our Defense make outstanding plays on the road. Observed a running game coming to life. Turnovers hurt, but come on man.

I think it's gonna come down to week 17 again against Cincinnati to determine whether we make the playoffs.

Considering our roster and the start to the season, injuries, that would be great.

It has to do with having elite talent for years and not drafting replacements at said position until those replacements are needed. Example- should of drafted Torrey's replacement last year instead of waiting till we need him to produce. Puts pressure on BP right out of the gate to be what Torrey was. Bad planning imo.

If, we can take care of Cleveland at home (there are no gimmee games) we might be able to right this season

lol we have to do a lot more than beat the browns at home to right this season

I want to see them go 4-4 into the bye, then there's something to build on. Although it seems 10-6 might be needed for a wild card - 11-5 (which I predicted before the season) is out of the picture at this point.

We're either too old or too young in too many spots and we rely on too many players with past injury histories who continue to keep getting hurt, and without enough quality depth behind those players as insurance.

Mainly because we've recently had too many weak drafts and too much dead money on our salary cap.

10-6 might not do it for us. RIGHT NOW, I see the wild cards coming out of the AFC West and East. Losing twice to the AFC West so far is gonna bite us.

Tough luck if that turns out to be the case. Then we'll be left just outside playoff contention, in a lukewarm draft position...

A lot of poor drafting the last 5 years

You nailed it. Guys drafted in the mid rounds rarely have gotten an opportunity to step up and if they did, they were nothing special.

I think our schemes had a lot to do with it. Vanilla Mattison, double shot vanilla Pees not utilizing our defensive talents. It's just been piss poor coordinators for the last 7 years or so. Well minus Chuck Pagano. We should have coordinators that want to taste blood and keep our feet on the necks of teams that we beat down....not go into the Prevent Pees defense playing 10 yards off of the fastest receivers in football

BINGO! You've hit the nail on the head. We kinda did the same thing with drafting a replacement for Ray Lewis. It would have been far better to have drafted his eventual replacement while he was here so he could mentor the person. That's why I tend to disagree with our philosophy of drafting the best player available, regardless of positional need. We cannot expect FAs who come to our organization to immediately "Play Like A Raven" when they have no idea what it entails. We are not drafting the right players based on our needs at the time. While this year's draft was excellent IMO, it was too little, too late. When you look around the league and compare some of our players to the players on other rosters, we either have a lot of under-achieving players or over-rated players. The draft is the key. The classic example is Green Bay whose roster is comprised almost entirely of their draft picks. Like us, they don't get as many top draft picks but they seem to make wiser picks in the long-term interest of the team.

Started the season with an inexcusably poor WR corps. Offensive line has been under-performing. Secondary isn't as solid as we thought it'd be.

I wish the front office learned from the mistakes of the past. This team was held back for so many of Flacco's early years by a poor WR corps, and when we got in Boldin and Torrey we won a SB. Then we let them go in back to back years and now we're 1-3. Not sure what they expected to happen.

I must have missed the swagger we had with Elam in the backfield. Personally, I'm starting to like the Will Power we have now.

Our safeties are eating too conservatively now. People forget that Elam was chosen 32nd overall.

I find it very hard to believe that Elam was BPA

A transitional period.

Simply put. We don't have many veterans on the squad. It's very very young. I mean. The oldest players on offense other than SSR are 30 and 31.

Defense, the oldest guys are 31, 33, 32. Starter wise. Babin will probably eventually rotate in.

We have veterans here and there but not many of them are that seasoned. Most of our team is composed of rookies from the past 3 years and a FA acquisition here or there.

Even then. We have ALMOST won every game. We're missing a few key pieces and tbh. It's not as bad as most of y'all are making it out to be. If we don't make the SB fine, 30 other teams fail to do that every year.

We can still make the playoffs as a wildcard. Every team is beatable.

I think what all of you are underestimating is that the person on the other side is also a professional. They might be below average players, but even below average players are capable of winning games. Has Ozzie had some bad drafts? Sure, 2012 looks awful, as does 2010(granted. Sergio isn't Ozzie's fault..). But the call for a drastic change is still dumb. We're in a transition period. It happens. Would I be shocked if we made the playoffs? No. We've almost won every game. Two in which were agianst teams that are currently undefeated. We're honestly a pass rusher and a CB#2 away from having a good defense again. And offensivley, if Maxx develops at all, and we find a RB we'll have an awesome core.

Give it two years before we're scary.
