[News] Report: Breshad Perriman Out Indefinitely After Knee Surgery

159 posts in this topic

Jeff Zrebiec ‏@jeffzrebiecsun  3m3 minutes ago

John Harbaugh says pregame that Perriman had his knee scoped this morning. Harbaugh says that they found no new damage.

Jeff Zrebiec ‏@jeffzrebiecsun  2m2 minutes ago

Harbaugh said that it's just healing very slow. Called it a matter of time before Perriman returns.

It appears that the team hasn't really been hiding any information from us.

This is a guy who will play very little in the future. I think we need to IR him and try and find another receiver somewhere. A note to OZ. Let's not draft anymore wide receivers in the early rounds. We just do not do well. Draft defense we are good at that.

We need speed or at least a big target for this season. Steve Smith can't do it all every game. Any FA's out there worth a shot? Maybe a trade?

More Harbaugh: "The injection with the stem cells, that should help a little bit too, but it’s going to be a little bit of time."

David J. Chao, MD Retweeted Jeff Zrebiec

Stem cells imply the need for healing. Not likely to be ready in 2 weeks like from some quick scopes. #Perr

I heard on Rome yesterday the Bears are looking to dump players and rebuild. Just saying. I would gladly give up a first round pick or more for Jeffrey. We have just squandered those away the past few years anyway. They just cannot buy a break drafting a WR. Clearly they need a better scout in that department.

Obviously this stinks... Just IR Perriman and let him fully rehab and lets see what he can do next season when fully healthy...

HA HA if you couldn't think it could get any worse for the WR core. Bust 1st round pick.. maybe next year he can grow a pair and get out on the field because this whole "surgery" looks like hes a scared little kid but hey thats just me. and our 2nd 3rd and 4th Wr's aren't anything to tote about. Should have signed a Veteran Wr Ozzy but i still trust you!

As usual, Ozzie will be going into his standard "rent a receiver" mode, and he's now calling Jerry Rice, Art Monk, and Randy Moss.

Ozzie- Regarding Perriman, really? We don't have one deep threat on this team because you got rid of both Torrey and Jacoby, and our #1 receiver, SSS, will be burned out after 6 more games.

Thanks, Ozzie, for not properly having at least 2 burners wide receivers on this team, and thanks for not drafting/ getting us any solid corners.

Eric- You ready to step up now? I don't think you could do any worse- someone mentioned Oz only drafted one pro bowler in the past 7 years (and that was just last year). Different times require different leadership perhaps. Everyone saw this coming except for Ozzie and the FO I guess.

From John Meoli's Twitter:

Harbaugh on perriman injury:

" We just had a meeting tonight, as a matter of fact. Just got over to the stadium here, and Dick Cass and Ozzie and I had a meeting with Dr. Curl and Dr. Tucker and they gave us an update.

Breshad went down and saw Dr. James Andrews the last two days. He had a consultation on Wednesday, and actually decided to go in with a scope and take a look at it this morning, just to look at it up close. It seems like what he saw he didn't see anything new. There's no injury of any kind, it's just a slow healing ligament, for whatever reason. Very slow. We're a little surprised to say the least, that it's healing this slowly but that's what it's doing. So it's just going to be a matter of time. The injection with the stem cells, that should help a little bit too, but it's going to be a little bit of time. Hopefully shorter rather than longer, and we'll keep working hard to try to get him back."

Ozzie- you are one of the best at drafting lineman and linebackers, but please defer to others when selecting skilled positions.

Also, who cares if we have 47 picks for one year's draft- if none of these later players pan out, then what's the difference.

Matt Elam anyone?

They are breaking down Perrimans injury right now on 1057 Pregame injury report. Sounds like 6-8 months recovery Orthopedic Surgeons of Central MD! George Bruyae

The funny thing is ozzie did defer. TJoe hortiz & wr coach Bobby Engram vouched for perriman which is why he was picked. If ozzie didn't defer, the ravens probably would have picked byron jones.

I told a friend two weeks ago - "don't be surprised if we don't see Perriman at all this season". I'll go farther than that - don't be surprised if this guy never plays a game for the Ravens.

Hopefully they win this game...afterwards Ozzie needs to get on the phone and look for trade partners 4th through 6th round pick.. Get Jeffrey,Boldin back, bring in Hakeem Nicks... But Perriman likely going on PUP or IR, you gotta go get a deep threat or another vice grip physical WR type..like Boldin

i feel for breshad he clearly wanted to contribute and play. a silver lining is he is going to know the playbook when he eventually does get back on the field. with his age and athleticism i'm bummed he wont play but hes certainly not a bust

he closer to being a bust then he is a #1 or #2 receiver.

And you guys are too harsh on Marlon Brown. That guy performs, but its hard to perform when your QB doesn't even look your way. He was wide open on the play when Flacco threw the long bomb incomplete pass to Maxx at the end of the Cinci game.

No he wasn't. There was a safety coming over to help, and Flacco was rolling right, so he would have had to throw across his body and across the field, which means the pass would have floated, giving the safety time to get there.  Blaming the qb for not looking his way is a lame excuse. When guys get open and make plays, the qb will look their way. Marlon has been blanketed by single coverage all year. He has made 2 significant plays this year. The back shoulder catch against Talib, and the 3rd and 20 conversion last week.

If the ravens cant make a trade for a WR, they really need to take a good look at Brandon Lloyd, he averaged 25 yards per catch last year. He is fast and runs grrat routes.

Why is every WR drafted in the first round by the Ravens been so disappointing? That position in the draft has been kind of a curse for us.

No he isn't. He isn't close at all to being a bust. I expect him to come back at some point this year, but even if he didn't, he'd still be 22 years old with great speed, size, and the ability to make tough catches in traffic. At this point, I'd say he has a much better chance of being at least a solid starter than a bust. I realize that people are impatient, but a slow healing sprain is not a career threatener at all. Not even close. Barring some unforeseen medical anomaly, it's going to heal, and he will still have the same ability he had before it happened.

Have you seen some of the depth on our team? We can even find a respectable #2 WR, and we're seriously worried about wasting a roster spot at this point?

Yea, I've seen the roster... Bodies dropping left and right , we need healthy bodies!

It's not a curse, its a lack of emphasis and value of the position. They rely on vets that others draft, journeyman, and undrafted guys. I don't believe they put the effort into scouting WRs as much as other position. I thought we only had to worry about Perrimans hands, now his knees. 2 big reasons not to draft at #1.

I don't think it is fair to this kid to call him a bust in his rookie year when he has not played in a regular season game yet. I know many want Ozzie to make a trade but are any teams going to really dump one of their better receivers after 3 games without us having to give away the farm?

Am I the only one that is confused. After reading Harbs comments it sounds like Perriman only got his knee scoped.

So is Harbaugh hiding the surgery? Even though most news outlets have reported about it. Or did NFL.com have a false report?
