Perriman injury updates

lol what? Just because he doesn't play at that speed doesn't mean he's an automatic bust at all. He's still faster than most DBs in the NFL.

We need to temper expectations. He only practiced on the side and sat out during long passing plays. Basically saying that his knee isn't all the way there just yet. With only one practice tomorrow and two before next weeks game, the best possible scenario for him to get up to speed and in real game shape will be a return against the Browns. I think that gives him just enough time to get ready.

I don't think anyone is expecting him this week.  I think excitement is warranted that he's actually practicing though.

I've never understood his 40 time. Dude looked so sluggish in College, now we expect him to be faster than DeSean Jackson. What if his play doesn't match his 40? I think he'd be a labeled an Automatic bust.

Sluggish? I've seen him run right past DBs in college. He made getting separation look easy.

Even if he's not the catch it and then run guy.. If you send him in a straight line in the nfl vs most corners, he's gonna beat most of them.

Hopefully he does a lot more than that. We invested a first rounder on him. Could find other guys in the 5th and lower to do just that. Also, Flaccos accuracy this year on deep throws is horrendous.

Won't matter. Perriman is a guy where the fades are actually going to work. He's physical. His deep ball opens up the middle.

Even if he is, and I don't believe he will be, a decoy. He's valuable.

Perriman, to me, appeared to be one of the smoothest athletes that I have ever seen catch the ball and immediately turn up field for YAC. He was so good at just getting right up field in a fluid motion upon securing the catch.

But it's not like he was just resting and doing nothing. Even before the Raiders game, he was jogging and working on cardio, I'm sure, with the rehab crew. I'm not saying play him the full game, but a rotation would not seem like a bad idea to me.

But yeah, Pacman...

but thats very different than actual gameplay, the full speed hard cuts and jumping and landing and what not, you cant really simulate that with the rehab crew. im not saying hes gonna be out another month, im just saying that 2-3 practices before suiting up may be stretching it a bit

This is great news. I hope he can help us turn around the season. If he can be that #1 WR we've needed for so long, it'll go a long way.

I've quietly felt this way since I've watched him. Folks have confused effortless fluidity with playing slow. Speedster never look like they are running fast, until you look at the people around them or you get to see them on a field level (cj2k,jamal Charles, Randy moss)

someone with little practice should not be running at full speed any time soon.

thats just wishing on an hamstring inj to occur.

let him get into football shape first.

steelers game at the soonest unless he was already running behind closed doors and they decided to not tell it sooner lol

A few days ago Perriman was on amber alert, now he isnt even ruled out of the Bengals game.

We must be desperate.

???

I'm not sure if you're aware, but it's standard for injured players to return to practice in hopes of playing.  That's kinda how things work… I'm not sure how this is "desperate"

I think everyone is really setting their expectations way too high for the impact he is going to make

That's how bare the cupboard is at WR. Ozzie only has himself to blame for this, should've planned for Torrey's departure LAST year when the WR draft was absolutely loaded.

I'm not sure if he'll have a big impact stat wise, but I don't doubt that he'll have the hidden impact in opening up the middle of the field.  Teams have to at least respect the possibility of a deep ball when he's on the field, which is something that is not happening at all right now.

He's also got a big frame! He will bully little corners. Also L. Fitz doesn't play as a 4.3 nor did he ever run s 4.3

Yeah I watched the video of his practice yesterday and I have to say he's definitely one of the bigger receivers we've ever had with Flacco Edited by Cville-Raven

I assume he means the way he plays. Waller so far plays like hes 5'9", whereas Sr plays like hes 6'5".

His lumbering around and being tall....  that's a bit of speculation as well.  We don't know that he hasn't been working out at all.  As it has been said that he has been working all along...  just not "practicing".

i was comparing perrimans ability to waller and marlons abilities.

waller and marlon so far havent shown much of a skillset. marlon has been good at turning upfield and lowering his shoulder after the catch and that is about the extent of his skillset, meanwhile waller has shown nothing at all. THEY are the 2 i was referring to lumbering around just being tall.

basically... you just seem to have tuned out everything prior to my post and read it way out of context lol

Yeah I catch your drift, but my comment was addressing the basic sentiment that Perriman is one of the bigger receivers Joe ever had to throw to.  Perriman is what 6'-1" max.  Flacco had many receivers bigger than that over the course of his career and as it stands right now, we don't know if Perriman will be better than any of them.  I'm hoping he is, but at this point no one KNOWS that.

He measured in at exactly 6'2 at the combine. Doesn't affect your statement. Just here for a minor clarification.
