Perriman injury updates

545 posts in this topic

his presence will be huge, but i am concerned about him.. him being on the field, as opposed to aiken or brown, he offers something, when those 2 offer almost nothing. defenses HAVE to fear and respect perrimans speed or they will pay the price, no amount of gameday experience for aiken and brown can take that away from perriman, they simply have nothing to strike fear into a defense in any way, single cover them, and dare flacco to throw their way, and sadly it just may be a pretty effective defensive strategy against us. you just cant say the same about perriman, even though we have never seen him play, it is a known fact that you have to alter your defensive gameplan to account for a guy with such speed, you cant stick your shutdown cb on him and call it a day because those guys can certainly be outrun.

my concerns, however, well i hate a rookie being thrown into the fire against veterans who are already approaching midseason form. and i hate the thought of a speed player, missing all this time due to a lower extremity injury, how susceptible will this make him to other injuries? like soft tissue injuries from a lack of recent exercise, if he is just beginning to run, then just how stable are his legs? did he cram a bunch of workouts into a small time frame to try to prepare? did he go lightly in his workouts? either scenario is unfavorable.

I would have him out there and tell him to run straight line all day like a race track or something...........

I'm hoping on everything that Perriman comes back soon and has an explosive Beckham like season.

I'm really hoping he becomes THE weapon we've lacked so much.

Justin F is nice, but he isn't Ray Rice or Jamal Lewis type of monster back. We need a weapon

Still think they keep him out this week, but playing Week 4 against Pitt is looking more and more like a possibility. And we all know how good Pitt is at covering our speed receivers...

Yessssir. Likely getting him ready for next Thursday at Pittsburgh. Don't think 2 or 3 practices will be enough to get him up to speed but we"ll see. What's the word on tali ? Did he reinjure his knee or did he just get the day off?

Finally...some speed. I always questioned why we don't throw in our speed receivers here and there and create space for the likes Steve Smith and our TE's??

I will temper my excitement until I hear how he practiced.  This is basically the equivalent of him running in Oakland.

If he is running hard,  cutting,  planting for comebacks and is close to full speed than that would be amazing.  Right now is he was just practicing,  I can't wait to hear how it went.

It will still take him a while to get back up to speed and don't expect him and Flacco to have an immediate connection.  Those things take time.  Mentally, however, he should know the playbook like the back of his hand.

Zero chance he plays this week, but exciting that he's back. We've missed Bernard Pierce or whoever this BP guy is!

I've said this before (not sure where), but if he's able to run full speed, you might as well put him in the game, even if it's only in a limited role. If he can go full speed, that's putting out 4.2-4.3 speed out there, speed no other player on the team has and that's a huge asset. He doesn't need to run complex routes or even be on for blocking, but if he can clear the middle of the field, let him, especially since the Ravens are 0-2 and very few teams make the playoffs at 0-3.

Considering the amount of time missed I think they want to have him heal completely and avoid a relapse.

This is about the timeframe we'd expect for it to be healed. I mean, if it isn't fully healed, it's a different story, but if it's fully healed, I wouldn't hold him out just because he can't do anything more than fly on verticals.

Bottom line is we have no choice but to trust the Doctors and trainers.

When they say its okay, then its okay.

his body being ill-prepared by only having 2 or 3 practice sessions after 2 months of rest just sounds like an accident waiting to happen. even if his knee is completely healed, he still hasnt had time to get in game shape, soft tissue damage happens real easily in situations like this where his body hasnt re-adjusted to the speed of it all. i know that 4.3 speed is huge for us but man i just wouldnt be comfortable rushing him back so soon.

plus, pacman jones... yea no thanks lol

But it's not like he was just resting and doing nothing. Even before the Raiders game, he was jogging and working on cardio, I'm sure, with the rehab crew. I'm not saying play him the full game, but a rotation would not seem like a bad idea to me.

But yeah, Pacman...

We need to temper expectations. He only practiced on the side and sat out during long passing plays. Basically saying that his knee isn't all the way there just yet. With only one practice tomorrow and two before next weeks game, the best possible scenario for him to get up to speed and in real game shape will be a return against the Browns. I think that gives him just enough time to get ready.

I've never understood his 40 time. Dude looked so sluggish in College, now we expect him to be faster than DeSean Jackson. What if his play doesn't match his 40? I think he'd be a labeled an Automatic bust.
