[News] More Snaps For Michael Campanaro, But Not At Steve Smith Sr.'s Expense

70 posts in this topic

Why can we not run at all before Kubiack arrived.... and then go from worst to first in rushing under Kubiack (in one season). Kubiack leaves -personal stays the same and all of a sudden we cannot run and need a new RB? WHAT? This is clearly scheme more then talent. Kubiack had the right scheme and the proof was in the results. Why isn't Harbs stepping in and saying we have the right personal (Proof is look at last season... they are the same people) and insisting that we implement some of this stuff that worked. He can still give trestman all the freedom that he wants but still demand production and when production is not happening then lets install what has been know to work! We don't need a new RB. FOrsett showed that he can play at a pro bowl level. WHat has changed? Scheme that's it! Play to our strengths!

I understand the logic in what you are saying and I partly agree. My only counter argument is I don't know how many yards we were going to run against the Bengals and Broncos (expecially with Kubiak knowing our personnel). Especially with Monroe going down the first series of the first game. I think the true answer will show itself in the next few games.

I'm so sick of this Perriman situation, ITS REALLY ANNOYING AND FRUSTRATING!!!!

Yea it would have been better if they just said from the beginning that he would be out for half the regular season. That would be easier on us than having us holding on for hope week by week just for our hope to be shot down, in a time where we really need something to give this team a spark.

31 other teams have no interest in him either and marlon brown has not punched back at any defense thus far. he is afraid to get physical

Im talking about Daniel Brown. He's still out there

his statement remains true. I like Daniel brown too but like I said before, he wouldn't fare any better than the guys we have. We have to get the running game going. Edited by January J

i know you are talking about him and if he was that good why isnt he on some teams roster. we need to trade for a better receiver than what we have. who knows how long perriman will be out and there is no guarantee he improves our situation by that point in the season. we need help now

The team has those other WRs good enough to be on the 53 but not good enough to garner a look-see under game conditions?

Im not concerned with other teams. I do know that the Ravens are in need of a WR alongside SSS to make big plays.

LOL @ this coaching staff. This is what everyone already knew. Aiken and Brown are useless. Camp has limited snaps but has made the most of them. Tell me how Aiken played a whopping 63 snaps without a single catch? Ridiculous.

I am all for Camp to get more catches. With Camp, SSS, our TEs, Juice and Forsett from back field, that is a decent combination. If blocking is an issue, make plays design for quick routes. Many teams are successful on short passes. We don't need major changes, just tweak it a little bit better and block a little better is all. Many of us are forgetting the Ravens are ranked 8th on passing yards, that is pretty good by Ravens standard. We actually improved our rankings in passing (We were 13th last year and that was with T.Smith). A tweak here and there and we'll be fine.

Daniel Brown. Can't do any worse than Aiken or Marlon Brown and right now we need to find people that can catch the ball. I felt that once we paid Flacco all that money that it was going to cost us down the road. We are on that road right now.

If they do decide to add another receiver it will probably be Ross, because he has NFL expericece or Butler because he had a very strong camp.  I doubt they are going to bring in a guy that looked good at the end of some preseason games.

Two things you should already know about Ozzie.  He isn't going to spend a lot of money on other team's free agents and he isn't going to pay a lot of money for a player he thinks he can replace with a cheaper option.  And signing Flacco hasn't to a long term contract hasn't changed that.

So far PFF grades TOTAL: Smith: 7.0 Aiken: - 3.3 Brown: - 2.6 Camp: - 0.8 Perhaps promote Brown to #2 until Perriman returns and hope he regains his 2013 form (I still see that possible.) and use more of Campanaro in the slot. I'm slightly disappointed with all the Aiken hype, he has potential, but outside from the Raiders game he has played badly. Oh, the Raiders are ranked dead last on defense so far, and were playing with reserve safeties that game...

You are so right when it comes to Aiken, waste of talent, yet Brown still can't live up to his best season either. SMH :34853_shakehead:

Campanaro is so underrated on this team. He has sure hands and is clutch in certain situations. Trestman please use him.

EVERONE has sure hands and makes "Highlight Reel" catches,... then the season starts!

Kamar Aiken, Michael Campanero, Darrel Waller = after-thoughts....... and, Breshad Perriman will probably get as many throws at him as Maxx Williams has had in three games!

So, let me get this straight. Which is the way things go in the NFL on average? Steve Smith Sr. or Aiken and Brown, etc. Is Smith better than most or are the other guys on our roster below average, or is it both?

I mean when we, here, think Baltimore and Wide Receivers, we know that we're the worst team in the NFL and grooming these guys and prob. the worst team, when it comes to receivers in the league for forever (20 years).

I know Tory Smith wasn't a sure fire number 1 reciever but atleast he was still a threat on the other side of Steve Smith. You would have thought that after we struggled after letting Boldin go for basically nothing the Ravens would have worked out some kind of deal to keep Tory a Raven. When Perriman was drafted all that was said is that he's another Tory Smith, well we had the original. Atleast Tory was on the field. What's done is done but you just have to wonder. I understand not over paying players but when you have players like Boldin and Smith that were productive as Ravens, there has to be some way to work out deals to keep these players especially when your WR depth chart reads; Steve Smith and the chipmunks.

I've been saying it ever since we let our two burners go (Jacoby and Torrey) that it was stupid on Ozzie to let them both go. Ozzie made a huge gamble two ways: 1) thinking that he can replace Torrey with Perriman, and 2) Have a roster with just one burner (supposedly Perriman). How sad is it to say that our best receiver is a 36 year old (and SSS is awesome), but he's not a burner and he'll wear out by mid-season. After SSS, we pretty much have scrubs as the rest of the receivers. No offense to Camp, but he's not the answer either, and he's like Ladarrius and Jimmy Smith- can't see the field too much because he's in the hospital bed all the time.

If Flacco was elite, he's not, then he would've willed some wins with our third tier receivers. I'm also sick of Ozzie's approach of "rent a receiver" every year. We should've kept Torrey, he was one of us, and at least he was clutch and opened up the passing game for others. Ozzie must have thought Perriman would've been able to do the same as Torrey, but he wasn't proven yet, nor could he get out of the hospital bed either- Ozzie, let's be for real, and let's pay some $$ to the skilled positions.

Ozzie and the whole team and all the coaches are to blame for this season- I predicted 0-3 all along, but at least we'll win the next one wit Big Ben out. If not, then I can't wait to see how baltimoreravens.com tries to spin the next loss- awesome..

What's also awesome was that baltimoreravens.com and the coaches were saying Aiken, Camp, and Brown were having awesome camps/ pre-seasons... this was probably why they didn't further address the WR position.. What's awesome is that our supposedly legitimate WRs were going up against our crappy secondary- lol.... of course they looked like All Pros agsinst our secondary. Once we started to play other teams, we then started seeing the truth, realizing both our CBs and WRs weren't as good as advertised by coaches and baltimoreravens.com- how wrong were we? Even when people picked us to go to the Super Bowl, I was shm because I knew we were exposed with our CBs and WRs...awesome..

I've been Very much waiting to hear this. I think Camp has more ability than any active receiver we have on the roster other than SSS. I'm discounting Perriman because he's not playing. There's Always only been one question about Camp, and that's his durability. It just hasn't been there. But, it only makes sense to utilize his abilities when he IS healthy. Personally, I hope he can stay that way because I really think he can be affective in our offense. He has a knack for getting open, has Great hands, moves the chains, and has good yards after the catch abilities. I'm anxious to see what he can do with more opportunities. I seriously believe he will give us more production than either Aiken or Brown.

One player in Smith's mold, 5-foot-9 Michael Campanaro, hasn't been given much of a chance. But that's about to change

We miss you, Torrey. You were one of us, a supposed 'Raven,'because you played injured, you left it all on the field, and there was no other Raven that served our community better.

We apologize that Ozzie didn't want to give you an extra $1-2M/year because he thought 36 year old SSS would last all of this year and be supported by our third tier receivers after him. We know he likes to 'rent a receiver,' than pay a receiver, whether it's Derrick Mason, Mark Clayton, Anquan, Jacoby, Torrey, and in a couple of years, Perriman if he ever becomes as good as Torrey or if he ever gets off his hospital bed. Perhaps, now Oz will see the light and start paying $$$ for some skilled positions like WR and stop overpaying for corners who aren't really shutdown corners- Webb and J Smith-- well, they are shutdown in the sense that they spend more time in hospital beds than the football field.

Let Ozzie continue to draft defensive/ offensive lineman/linebackers, but please don't let him draft any skilled positions.. We're also 0-6 for picking a stud safety as well.. Matt Elam who?

You're right, Ozzie should be more like the Cowboys (Dez), the Falcons (Julio/Roddy), the Lions (Megatron/Tate), Bengals (AJ Green), the Bills (Sammy Watkins), the Bucs (Mike Evans/VJax), etc. Those teams have CLEARLY shown that paying or drafting skill positions especially at WR means that they go deep into the play-offs and have HUGE success Winning in January. Oz should definitely listen to GM Jerry Jones and disregard everything he has done in the past.

OzzieBisciotti - I actually agree with a lot of what you said but Torrey Smith is no where near as good as you're making him out to be. He had his opportunity in 2013 to step up and be this teams #1 WR and he proved that he wasn't good enough. He had 49 catches last year. Yes he had 11 TD's but there's no way that type of TD production is sustainable when you're only catching 49 balls. There is no way in a million years i would have given him $40 million dollars. I think Ozzie & staff have made some mistakes and passed on skill positions when they were glaring needs. But moving on from Torrey Smith was an excellent & prudent decision. He's a one trick poney who doesnt run the full rout tree who didnt get any better from year 1 to year 4. It still drives me crazy he never learned to pivot, turn toward the QB and high point the football. He's the only receiver I've ever seen who tries to hight point the football with his back to the play. I also hated his effort on the final offensive play in NE in the playoffs last year. You HAVE to try to knock that ball down. I was also really down on him for all the sulking & pouting he did early in the season last year when he thought he wasn't getting the ball enough. You make fun of Perriman all you want - he'll be twice the player Torrey Smith was for the Ravens.

UnitedWeFall19- Please do some homework- the $40M was not fully guaranteed. Torrey wanted to stay, and if we were close, or if Oz gave more guaranteed years, he still would be here today. I never said he was a #1, but he was a Raven, he played like a Raven. Maybe that's why our receivers stink because of the leadership he brought to the group- you can't just measure how much someone should be paid on performance. You can talk about that last Patriots catch, which was uncatchable, but don't tell me he provided some of those most clutch catches against the Steelers and his performance against the Patriots when his brother passed. His leadership is missed- look at us now- who is a clear leader with Suggs down? All the younger receivers looked up to him. Let's also remember that Steve Smith dropped/ mishandled two game winning drops over the past week as well- had that been Torrey, in those big game situations, I felt like he would've caught them since he did in the past.

You can also say he wasn't productive last year, but you're wrong in that regard too. He wasn't targeted as much. However, UnitedColorsofBenetton17, he led the league in most yards created off of pass interference plays. Also, with Joe throwing for career highs last year, do you not think Torrey allowed other receivers to get open because he truly took the top off of defenses and they had to respect his speed? Please do your research before you make incomplete observations.

Perriman hasn't proven anything- he can't even get off his hospital bed. Ozzie took a huge gamble by having one burner on the team (by letting both Jacoby and Torrey go), and it outright failed. He's not had any true success at drafting a true #1 receiver, so I didn't think Perriman wouldn't have turned out to be someone like AJ Green- remember, he had issues during the preseason with dropping balls- that's typically not good for a receiver.

Ignore the big whit elephant in the room called Defense and let's all talk about wide receivers and the offense.

Don't also forget that Jacoby was relatively cheap. Do we really want our best and only capable wide receiver, SSS, fielding punts? That was a huge mistake by Ozzie/ Coaching to let something like that happen as well. If SSS goes down, we'll go 0-16, and then people will finally confirm Flacco isn't elite. He's good but not elite. An elite qb would've won 1-2 of our past 3 games regardless of the who our receivers are.

I'm not saying he should blow millions of dollars on a #1 type of receiver, but rather, we should keep our decent ones (anquan and torrey).  He has to stop his 'rent a receiver' philosophy and just settle down/ pay up (reasonably).  How is flacco going to be elite if he can't ever build chemistry with any of his receivers- all of them are gone in 2-4 years??
