Trade Steve Smith away to a real SB contender

Targeted twice...  caught two....

I was counting the WR's... That was my statement (not counting SSS),  not Forsett, Juice or Gillmore, or Williams.

(and I forgot the other one Aiken caught, because he dropped how many?)

Go back to the list that RedLobster put up there that I quoted..

Thats why i bolded Wrs, i guess i just dont get what you were saying, since he wasnt the only Wr to catch more than one pass.  I wonder how much it would cost to resign him? Suprised we havent seen him on PR/KR

Ross is good...  I like the kid.  Him and Givens.  Both of those guys have some real potential.  Moreso than any of the other's I've seen besides Campanaro.  And like you said, he just can't stay healthy.  I loved Perriman down here at UCF.  I would love to know what the heck is going on there.  He wasn't injured or injury prone here at all.

Lol I hope he changes his mind and decides to return next year.

If he doesn't break his back dropping passes in the end zone first

Well, he and Flacco are carrying or pressing to carry the team respectively. If he hurt his back trying to carry the team as the only recall WR we have, can you fault him?

"Hurt his back carrying this team" describes the situation perfectly on both levels lol

I doubt Smith approves of any trade unless its back to Carolina. Seems like he's the kind of guy that will go down with the ship. But if the Panthers gave the right offer, I feel like he'd be down. Finishing his final season on the team he spent almost all his career that stands a great chance at a SB this year and is desperate for a WR? Writings of a Hollywood ending

Jamison Hensley is reporting that he thinks Steve Smith is reconsidering his retirement plans.  This is all speculation on Hensley's part, but nonetheless this would be great for our team if he returned next year.  If he indeed does return, I still think we go out and get a free agent and draft a receiver high in the draft (Rounds 1-3).  Its a pipedream at this point, but the fact Hensley even reported it gives the idea hope.

Guy wanted to retire to spend time with his kids, I'm ok with him doing that.

I sure hope it's true but I respect whatever decision he makes. if we can actually pair Steve up with another dynamic receiver who can take the top off we would actually be doing something and it would be a thing of beauty. Who knows, perriman may still be that guy, and I really hope we get to find out soon. Imagine boldin and Steve together, with perriman to take the top off- now that would be something special. If he retires so be it, he has earned it and deserves all the praise and respect he gets.  If he does decide to come back though, I will be very excited and appreciative of his sacrifice for this team.  He would almost certainly be used in a lesser role next year and would probably be given a lot of days off during the offseason (especially for his wife's birthday).  Nonetheless I watch each game with the understanding that this will be his last year.

Yeah based on that I don't even want him to reconsider.

Agreed, he's made his money, has a family, spend time with the kids before they are gone.

I don't anticipate anyone is going to give up much to get SSS ... at least not anything that is going to provide substantial help for us in the future.

Given that I think it is important for us to try to operate with some young players on this team learning to fight for wins, we need someone left on this team who can lead by that example. His value in that regard far outweighs a 5th or even 4th rounder.

The team isn't going to make that move just to be nice.

the segment he did on the nfl network that was just posted on the main site says otherwise. Looks like he's definitely got his mind made up. Wouldn't be mad at him if he changed it, but don't see that happening.

Why not, we kept Jah Reid forever to be nice

I love this dude.

@jeffzrebiecsun: Steve Smith Sr. said if the Ravens traded him today he would quit. "I like to finish what I started."

would expect nothing less from him.

I don't think he would ever like the idea of being traded, I've always been a fan of his and it would go against the person he is.

I just hope he has it in him to come back one final year, which by all accounts looks like he won't do it.

Ravens would only trade him to be nice at this point because we won't get back any substantial value due to his age and recent injury and of course his desire to retire after this season. Of course if we did trade him, Kamar would be the number one which is something Ozzie would be fine with so that means we're almost a lock for that #1 pick in the draft. I really hope we revamp the WR situation in the offseason and persuade SSS to come back as the 2 or 3 for some unfinished business.

I knew it. That man is a fighter and loyal as hell. No chance. I admire and look up to Steve probably more than anybody in sports right now. He don't care if we're 1-14 he's gonna finish what he started.

I always wanted Steve Smith, Sr. to be a Raven.  Just hate that it happened on the tail end of his career.

Time to close this thread. Steve Smith just ended it. #Over

Yeah pretty much, only reason I would do it would be to give him another shot at a ring but it would be his decision.
