Trade Steve Smith away to a real SB contender

153 posts in this topic

This great man deserves to go out contributing to a SB contender like the Packers, not us. If we keep losing, it has to be done. Sorry Ozzie failed you and has Aiken lined up next to you. What a disgrace.

Actually, I agree with you oddly enough. If we loose next week and the week after that. Basically if we don't have a win by the deadline I agree with you. But there's still a chance we make the playoffs. Statistically it's unlikely, but this season if any should prove the league is unpredictable

Rich Eisen brought this up on his show. This great man deserves to go out contributing to a SB contender like the Packers, not us. If we keep losing, it has to be done.

I'm not going to lie. This thought went through my head, but only if we were eliminated from playoff contention. There is plenty season left. Around this time last year, people said Brady was finished and he proved them wrong. He showed them that he still had many more ways to cheat up his sleeves...

First of all im all but ready to write off the season too, but come on seriously. We still have that glimmer of hope, we can come back, we have one of the best head coaches in the league, a Superbowl QB, not to mention a favorable mid season schedule. The formula is there for an epic comeback, no team has done it this century, this team out of all 0-3 teams before them and now, has the best chance of staging that historic comeback. That would be a hell of a sendoff as far as im concerned. There is a first for everything, as far im concerned the ravens have the best shot at being that first team to do it this century. Dont worry about steve smith's epic sendoff we will take care of that. I promise hold it to me if you want.

Doesnt really work that way though, that would basically take out the business aspect of the game.  He deserves it, but he also chose to stay in carolina all his career.  its a catch 22

If we were 3-3 would we be having this conversation?

6-3? 10-3 ?

Even if we were 8-4 ?

Would we be having this conversation?

Here's how that would play out (in typical Ravens fanboard fashion)...

We trade Steve Smith for a conditional like 6th or 7th round pick, because that's what a 36 year old receiver who is supposed to be retiring is worth. Naturally, with us out of contention, the fanboards will think this is great, because we got a draft pick for him. They will ignore the fact that 6th and 7th round picks, almost universally, never even develop into NFL players for more than a few years, even on the Ravens.

THEN... in standard fashion, Steve Smith goes to a contender, plays great, and guess what... decides NOT to retire after all. And we go through the entire 2016 season watching him play well elsewhere, and the fanboards call for Ozzie's resignation for pulling another Anquan Boldin (after they praised him for the very same move previously).

That's how this process plays out...

Smitty is an excellent football player, but hardly what I would call a "great man".  But that's probably what you meant anyway.

A team thast would be considered a SB contender at this point of the season most likely would not have a need for a SSS.  Maybe this discussion would be better suited to late October.

Ehhh...the Boldin and Smith situations aren't comparable. Every knew Boldin could continue to play at a high level. I really do think SSS will retire.

nah after trading him , they are going to blame the FO if flacco does not get 4000 yards or the if the offense drops to 2013 levels ...

They has just dropped to 2-2 after a beat down, the levels of which we haven't seen since 13. There is no real difference, to me, between 1-3 and 2-2, through the first quarter of the season. It's easier to accept when the main guys we're fighting with, also only have 1 win and we play them later.

It would be Pees fault. Him and his soft zone and 3 man rush...

Gonna be kind of hard to argue that over SSS eclipses Boldin's production in back to back seasons with this team...

Love this post!  I work with lots of Pats fans who wanted Brady gone a year ago.  You summed it up perfectly redrum52.

If you are a Ravens fan who thinks we should intentionally hurt our team...

You are not a Ravens fan.

While I agree that trading Smith to a contender for a late round draft pick accomplishes nothing...

Making your team worse in the short-term so it can be better in the long-term is not intentionally hurting your team...
