Could the Ravens be considering a trade for (insert WR here)?

578 posts in this topic

grimes??!!! Can't be true. Gotta make that trade if it's available. He's one of the best CBs in the NFL.

he sure is and would probably be very pricey if they do want to trade him.

I don't think we'll trade for a WR, at least not now. We're riding with the ones we've got.

I agree . Were gonna see what happens during the Cleveland game.

A lot of trade rumors floating around. Ozzie must be busy on the phones.

That's means we could be missing Smith for awhile .

After trading Jared Allen and Jon Bostic, teams are inquiring about Matt Forte and Alshon Jeffrey. If I was Ozzie I would be calling the Bears right now and throw up a 3rd or 4th round pick on the table for him, the Bears would probably consider anything for him.

I would be surprised if the Bears do not trade Jeffrey...he is in the final year of his contract and likely to test free agency next year, and the Bears season is essentially a bust right now and the team looks to be in rebuild mode.

Steve Smith, Alshon Jeffrey, Breshad Perriman, Gilmore, Williams and potentially Pitta too...that's a Ravens receiving group no fan has ever seen.

I would package A. Brown and a significant draft pick for Jeffrey.

I'm hoping for a win but a bad game for the starting WR's that way we can trade for a GOOD WR and actually give flacco the help he probably deserves. There's no reason why the overrated Matt Ryan should be able to have great WR's but flacco can't.

Don't forget Tony Gonzalez at tight end that he used to have .m

I think if we were going to trade for a big name(Jeffery, White, Tate, Boldin, etc), we would have done so already instead of getting Chris Givens. I don't think Smith will miss many games, I think at most he'll miss the SF game after this but will be ready to go for Arizona. So I think Givens will be who we go with until Smith comes back.

Hopefully we extend Givens with a new contract, I know Aiken and Brown are RFAs next year but we need to get Givens locked in so we can get some continuity with our receiving core. Either way, we still need to find our AJ Green/Julio Jones/Dez Bryant.

  • KO is having a terrible year, between being a turnstyle and a penalty machine
  • He will demand big $$$ ,
  • you have Urschel waiting
  • Yanda will be re-signed

I disagree with your first two points as it is only 4 games into the season and he was instrumental in Forsett getting his 150 yds in Pittsburgh. There is no guarantee that Yanda will be resigned. And why in the world would you give up K.O and then give up a 3rd round pick to boot??

You're right, I don't think that's a reflection of K.O either but I just believe it's inevitable if he'll leave. I also think that even if he plays bad, it's doubtful he returns, he'll be below more priorities. We've made Tucker and Yanda a priority. I'm also looking at our 2017 Free Agents and we've got some heavy priorities. I think Brandon Williams is a candidate of an extension, he's played great and honestly looks every bit of a guy you would build a DLine around. If Wagner could get it together I find him to be the higher priority than K.O.

Also, lets say he does preform well and goes back to playing like a the old K.O, then it's guaranteed that we won't keep him. I just honestly like to get something in return for a guy who's bound to leave.

That may be. But I don't like to look at FA's a couple years off bc the cap limit is going to continue to skyrocket and who knows what the roster will look like then. Certain guys may be off the books, others with projected big cap hits may be extended to clear room. Plus making Yanda and Tucker priorities next year means doesn't hurt a ton for 2016 since cap hits are always relatively low in the 1st year or 2.

I don't know if we'll keep KO but I wouldn't be surprised one bit if we do retain him. Joe is the centerpiece and the one thing most consistently great teams have in common is a dominant Oline that remains in tact as a unit.

I see a genuine effort from the FO to keep as much of this group together as possible. Perfect world and Urschel isn't available to replace KO bc he'll be replacing Zuttah where he can actually be an upgrade not simply a wash or slight down grade.

With a dominant Oline the need for high dollar WRs and RBs goes down. And I think that's where the FO will choose to invest on offense.

With Joe likely restructuring and Rice/Ngata coming off the books there may be plenty of money to keep the band together and continue to model of adding a value vet FA WR.

To me it just doesn't make sense to move KO unless you know you aren't going to resign him AND the season is a lost cause. So maybe.... And that's only if they know they won't resign him... If we lose the nex cpl then id consider shopping him.

Still, KO and a 3rd for a guy who has at best equal value to KO is over paying. It makes no sense to trade for Tate and weaken your line. Joe won't have time to get him the ball.

Pick compensation is the only way I see a trade getting done for any of the WRs that are being discussed.

I agree its steep but he is on a cheap contract compared to production, is in the prime of his career and I don't trust the front office to find a WR his caliber within the first 3 rounds.

Take away Tates production last year (his best year by far) and take away his worst year to balance it out.

Not really anything to write home about. Def not worth a 3rd and KO. The 3rd alone would or I'll say should be enough.

Tate is like a more dynamic Torrey. Similar production just gets it done in a different way.

Even with his prolific year last year, Tate's career average is 52 catches for 710 yards and just shy of 4 TDs. That's INCLUDING a monster year which really helps skew the numbers.

So, we were hesitant to pay Torrey $7mill but let's pay $6-7mill, a 3rd, and KO for similar production from a player that doesn't even bring a unique element to your offense that Torrey did. He does what SSS does, just not as well.

I'm sure if we feed him the ball enough (Tate has been #1 or #1a most of his career, with his best play last year coming when CJ was out) Aiken can produce 52 catches for 710 yds for a fraction of the cost and without giving anything up.

I think Tate is more who we're seeing this year (and the 2 years prior to Detrioit) than he is what we saw last year.

Agreed. The whole line has underperformed this year. Yanda included.

And everyone is assuming Urschel will just slot in to replace him. Ok then who's the backup? Our line depth is one of our biggest strengths.

Plus, I like Urschel replacing Zuttah a lot better than replacing KO.

It's not a foregone conclusion that we can't keep both KO and Yanda. The oline is the key to success. I think the FO is going to place a premium on keeping this group together as long as possible.

Resigning KO prob wouldn't cost much capwise until 2018. 1st and 2nd year on 5 year deals are almost always friendly. And since Yanda's older you can afford to front load his a bit more and have the flexibility to move on in 2-3 years if he declines.

How about Marqise Lee?? He is falling out of favor due to various reasons. Mostly the other young WRs have better chemistry with Bortles and minor Injuries. The jags are high on rookie Greene as well. They could trade Marqise for a 3. Word has it his chemistry has not grown with Bortles as fast as the other WRs and he is so fast in his breaks Bortles has had problems timing him. But elite talent remains. Oz has to give up significant compensation for a quality WR at some point. His raw talent is comparable to Odell Beckham. Golden Gate does not compare. Lee has legit #1 WR talent

i heard about that on 105.7 yesterday but i didnt know that was actually a thing, i thought that was just one fan calling in with an unlikely idea lol

JJ   We could both break out in a deep sweat hoping for his return but we would never panic as that is unllikely for Ravens fans like us.

I was reading a post on a site on line and they mentioned Boldin and his possible trade points.  They mentioned The Panthers and the patriots.  I swear if he trades to NE I'll rip his jersey. I won't revere it anymore.  However, if he came back (highly unlikely)  I would feel comfortable and believe in a winning streak.

Third is probably way too high, but I was probably the biggest Lee fan on the boards last year and would love him in Baltimore

Freeing a lot of dead money next offseason should help facilitate this process.

Probably, especially since the Ravens have a plethora of those. He just hasn't been consistently healthy and he's fallen heavily out of favor down there. Might as well just get something for him.

Cheers, sounds good to me. Hopefully (for him) his injury woes are nothing like what we've witnessed so far with Campanaro.

Here's the issue with your line of thinking. You're going purely off of stats, which is obviously a very flawed way of thinking.

As you pointed out, Golden Tate was almost always the number one for the teams he played for, especially starting in 2012. However, in 2010 he played with Matt Hasselback, 2011 Tavaris Jackson, and 2012-2013 Russell Wilson. Tell me which one of those guys is a high volume passer. I'm dying to hear that argument.

Since Russell Wilson became the starter in Seattle, in a full season, the Seahawks literally ran the ball more per game on average than they did pass it. You really think wide receivers are going to be putting up high volume stats? Pfft, yeah, go ahead, make an argument for that, too.

Tate was the number one, but he was never even targeted 100 times. In fact, his average targets before 2014 were 62 per season, and that's with 99 in 2013. Before 2013, the most he had was 68. Know how many times Torrey had less than 90 targets in Baltimore? Zero. Know how many times he went for over 100? Twice, including almost 140 (138 in 2013). Know how much of a difference targets make for a receiver? Look no further than 2014 when Tate was targeted over 140 times.

You all are looking at purely stats and calling it an anomaly, but if you watched Tate play (guessing you did not), you'd see this is much of the same from 2012 and 2013 Seattle Tate.

But let's go back to the stats. He was catching about 65% of his passes thrown his way in 2012 and 2013, then that continued into 2014, but he received more opportunities. His yards per catch actually went down from 2012 to 2014, but he put up more yardage as he was used in a fuller role and subsequently put up better stats for his offense.

Know how many receivers have put up 1,000 yards in Seattle since 2010, when Tate came into the league? Zero. Know how many receivers have put up 1,000 yards since 2007, the year Megatron came into the league, other than Megatron? Zero. Know why? Because Megatron (almost) literally eats targets for breakfast. So was it really a shock that without Megatron that Tate played well in a heavier pass offense in Detroit? Nope. In fact, with CJ limited or out, Tate put up four 100+ yard games, including three over 130 and two over 150, in five weeks (weeks four through eight). Some of Tate's worst games? Calvin Johnson's best.

But in 2014, again, it was much of the same. He put up a respectable YPC (a little over 13, averaging about 14 for his career) and was again catching about 65% of his catches. Again, it was a larger opportunity for him, probably a huge reason he went to Detroit.

Now that we're done with that stats that you so carelessly tossed around, let's talk about the on the field, which I'm guessing you probably didn't watch much of. Tate, coming into the league, was pretty much a "speedster". He didn't have great long speed, but respectable. I guess that's where you get the idea of him being like Torrey, but his speed was not as good as Torrey's and his hands were significantly better. However, from 2011 on, Tate began to become a fuller route runner. 2011 would classify him mostly as a deep threat, but if you watched him in 2012, he starts to develop a better route tree. He had a tendency to round off some of the more intermediate routes, but in 2013, he became much sharper. In 2014, we start to see those same route running developments continue and we begin to see a lot more subtle body movements to sell his routes. Because he didn't have overly impressive speed, he couldn't just run by defenders, so he had to use body fakes and subtle movement to set up defenders, which he did marvelously.

Off the line, he has extremely impressive agility, excellent breaks in and out of routes that continues to get better, and has worked so hard to improve his release from press coverage. His footwork is night and day from when he came into the league.

His hands are also extremely impressive and it's a huge disservice to compare them to Torrey's. He dropped six passes in 140+ targets last year, so he's dropping about 4% of his targets. That's hugely impressive. He's also far better at actually tracking deep balls.

I haven't gotten to watch the Lions as much this season because NFL Sunday Ticket on my laptop isn't always available with two brothers that like football, but I can tell you we are seeing much of the same this season, but you're looking purely at stats and it's leading you way too far from the truth.

Make no mistake, he'd be the best receiver the Ravens have ever had.

Cannot comment attitude wise, but skill wise, he's there.

If I'm remembering correctly, it's been a lot of hamstring and ankle injuries. It seems like a lot of aggravating the same body part. Camp just seems to injure everything.

Anquan had no say in going to Sam Fran. And would have no say in coming back to Baltimore.

You are correct.  Shouldn't have used the phrase 'abandon ship'.  Either way, I will feel very bad for if he Torrey loses his bud so soon in a somewhat strange environment.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you.  Was out all day and didn't get back til round midnight.

best receiver we've ever had is a little over the top. But I agree with the rest, he's behind megatron and has Stafford throwing to him, that says a lot right there. I'd be glad to have him.

I'd take Golden Tate over anyone the Ravens have had at their ages. If the Ravens had Steve Smith in his prime or Boldin in his prime, it'd be different, but a 27 year old Golden Tate would very likely be the best.

Got a feelin we will be sending a. Brown and a 4th somewhere soon. Who we receive in return is still up in the air.

Not sure about sending k.o... I mean if we will be parting ways with him anyway after this season we might as well try to get something for him. But we could just ride the year out and reap the benefits of having both him and yanda while we still have him. Idk, cap situations and trades aren't particularly my strong suit.
