2016 DB Prospect Thread

"Alexander has all the physicals" except for the ability to be physical IMO. He reminds me a lot of Gerod Hilloman in the sense that he can't really tackle and at times he'll just get dominated physically.

That's definitely fair based on the tape I watched. The more I sit on it the more I'm concerned about his physicality (or lack there of) getting exposed at the NFL level. Definitely can't count on him to make an open field tackle and he's taken out of plays far too easily in run support. It's an interesting trade off for his impressive coverage ability. While most cover corners aren't great tacklers, Alexander seems especially weak in that department as far as a potential top 10 pick goes

I stick by my statement that Alexander is the best pure corner... right now. He's the most polished, but if VH3 can be groomed well in the NFL i think he has the higher ceiling, he's a better, more explosive/fast twitch athlete. That to me is why so many consider VH3 the better prospect even if his technique and football IQ isn't as refined as Alexander's is right now

I just really think Ozzie is going to value ramseys style and versatility and go after him. I've almost never been more sure. If one of the blue chip guys doesn't fall, and if we can't find a tradeback partner, Ramsey will be the pick. Signed, sealed, and delivered. I almost hope another team takes him first just bc I don't trust him and we can't afford to whiff on our first top ten pick in ages.

So I've watched Alexander and he's great in coverage. Really knows how to use his hands and shows really great, top notch recognition to diagnose and dissect the play. He's admittedly a better cover CB than Hargreaves.

That said, he's too touchy and he can easily become a penalty magnet for it. Furthermore, he's in position to get the ball but often didn't turn it over. That's less a concern for me because when you press you're not as likely to intercept it as you are in zone or off man.

In fact, the concerns about his ability to turn the ball over seem irrelevant to me. He clearly can dissect the play and diagnose the QB, which plays into his likely ability to also likely intercept the ball in off man coverage.

What concerns me is his penchant to touch the WR too soon and show bad discipline and his lack of involvement against the run.

Each player comes with an upside.

Ramsey is versatile at FS and CB

Alexander good coverage cornerback

Hargreaves has possibly the higher ceiling

Living in the UK I dont see much college football on any tv stations here but do use sling to watch some games.  I would like to know what people think of Apple and Fuller, I was impressed with the limited times i saw them.

I love how Apple plays. He's one of the more underrated CB I've seen.

I'd like to somehow draft both Fuller and Apple - Fuller to play FS for Ravens, Apple opposite Jimmy.

It's improbable but not impossible - just need a trade partner to allow us to drop a little in 1st and give us their 2nd. That and a lot of luck. With the extra pick we could find decent OLB/rusher or WR.

i seriously hope apples level of recognition stays relatively low and we can get him in the 2nd. i think hes a legit first round talent and probably the most well rounded corner in the draft, and i love the swagger he plays with.

its no secret how i feel about ramsey for us, i think he is not a fit at all and would be a liability in coverage as it stands right now, but if we were to draft an eli apple in the 2nd to shore up the coverage then i would be excited about ramseys potential to do other things since he wouldnt be left in coverage out of desperation.

I like him a lot, but one thing I will say about Apple is he didn't have a good year this year. In fact, he was out of position quite a few times this year and also wasn't as physical as I saw him last year. He's also dropped quite a few interceptions, if memory serves me right. I still like Apple a bit, but I think he finds himself in a logjam at CB with a lot of other guys. There's a pretty even level of skill at CB in a certain range and he finds himself there. He could go 1st or even into the 3rd. I wouldn't be surprised either way. His size should see him go early, though.

Really just isn't that good a year for corners; there's no clear #1 or all around great player.

Uh Jalen Ramsey

I think we've come to expect too much from rookies. Everyone needs development. Eli Apple also helped the Buckeyes shutdown Anari Cooper last year. Edited by GrimCoconut

I would prefer to find dbacks in free agency about to breakout as elite or above average but yet to do so. Trumaine Johnson has priced himself out of range recently. I like Jeremy lane so far. He is better than Maxwell ever was. Great in the slot and very sudden at 6'1 with very underrated speed and playmaking skills outside. Could very well be a pro bowler in a different system that displays his complete skillset. And with byrons bust contract Lanes play will be overlooked!! He is not completely healed from his Superbowl injury and will only get better next year. And will not cost much.

I would like a trade with the Rams, for our 1st would gain their 1st, 2nd and 4th maybe more with future picks.

Using our 2nd and the Rams 4th we could sneak into the end of the 1st round, by using the Rams 2nd and 4th should give us back to back picks in the 2nd.

At 15th we would still get a quality starter with some mocks showing Treadwell, Floyd, Buckner, Alexander and (after poor bowl game) Hargreaves possibly still there.  Would use the low 1st rounder to pick up Apple (so would have the extra year option)

I think this is a good CB class but I'm not a fan of picking either #6 overall. I like Treadwell, Stanley, and Buckner better.

The reason there isn't a stand out CB is that there is so many great ones. Ramsey, Hargreaves, Alexander, and even Fuller are competing to be the top corner. It's one thing to not like a prospect, but by sheer volume; this is a very talented corner class. That's not even to add guys like Tre'davius White or Eli Apple, who look like later first rounders.

We can get a good CB in the 2nd round. I really like this class, yeah there is no standout but its still a stacked group.

Im not even so sure ozzie will see cb as a very strong need. Shareece Wright really came into his own near the end of the season...And a lot of people are forgetting about will davis. However if we release Arrington and with webby moving to safety he will grab one at some point..I just don't see it in the first few rounds unless one of the top guys falls right Into our lap and it just makes too much sense.

CB will absolutely be addressed, and it has to be.  Jimmy Smith is still all we have.  Shareece Wright played well down the stretch and I think you have to bring him back, but you're still taking a risk that you're getting the version we've seen and not the version the Chargers and 49ers have seen, which was not good at all.  Will Davis has a grand total of 1 full game as Raven.  I highly doubt we've seen enough to be completely comfortable with him either.

I think both guys are options for us, but going in expecting those guys to be the top 3 would be a huge mistake.  We've gotten into this hole by not addressing the position.  This is one of the stronger drafts in recent memory for CBs.  I'd be very surprised if we didn't take one high.

Unless we make a drastic free agent signing, I'd call for Ozzie's resignation if we doesn't address DB early. He can't keep getting passes on not fixing a position. He can cram that BPA philosophy down our throats and I like it as well. The problem is you can make arguments that some CBs were close to BPA & frankly when you are picking in the top 3 rounds those guys MUST be immediate contributors now unless you have a stacked team. We do not have that latter criteria. We need guys to play now and CB is a position where we have desperately needed help ever since he let Graham walk.

Will Davis can't be relied on, as we saw in Miami and here.

so what if we land stanley- yannick - and then sterling sheppard? Could you blame oz for not taking a db in the first 3?

Nah, but we have a high enough fourth round pick where I think we could take a highly-ranked DB in the 3rd and trade up for a WR like Shepard. I'm a big fan of those players myself. It's certainly tough, you make a good argument here. We could also probably have our cake & eat it, too, by using our two 4th round picks to potentially trade up back into the 3rd round to get a WR or CB, if there was one there we coveted.

My counter-question to you is this: what if we re-sign KO & cut Monroe so KO is our LT?  Would you still want Stanley? Not a rhetorical question. I've wondered this myself, so I am asking you. I'm all for building dominant OL, personally, but it would give us a crowded group & we could get a guy like Dahl in the 3rd or 4th, perhaps, of whom I like a ton.

thats really tough. I would say yes- take him..And then obviously keep KO at guard. I think it's not even a question if Tunsil we're available..but again, I'm not even so sure if Stanley won't be rated above Tunsil after the combine. Really good question..I also really like the idea of getting dahl in the 4th. I think if we have the option to trade back it makes it even tougher, but with the value with getting an extra 2nd and/or third I think we would have to take it.

That's what I would do...but I'm still thinking that ozzie will really have a thing for Ramsey and go after him.

I also like your scenario of trading back into the third for a receiver like sheppard..we certainly have the ammunition and the positioning to do so.

I agree with the posts above CB is a huge need and I will be dumbfounded if we fail to address it via FA or Drafta CB early. These CBs are the reason why we hit a bump on the road early on the season and the prime reason why we didn't advance to the SB last year. The defense has improved in the 2nd half but the CBs still played either solid, average or mediocre. Outside of Jimmy, none of these CBs are guarenteed to be here in 2016 and onward.

Vernon is a solid #1, Mackensie Alexander is too. I think you put them next to a Jimmy Smith, a Revis, or a Sherman during the year, you will see in the amount of ints they get. in reference to depth, Eric Murray and DJ White could surely be role or back up guys who could step in and contribute. I think we can grab a top DB in the first 1-2 rounds and then again in the forth.
