Harbaugh's future

89 posts in this topic

You forget after superbowl 47 he was dealing with a gutted roster, a retooling secondary and constant cooridnator changes, he got us to the playoffs last year and made a deep run, We are still in this and have hope, if any coach can cause an historic rally for an 0-3 team, its him.

Dream on! There won't be any historic rally this year. Its not uncommon for a SB roster to be gutted. That's when great coaches earn their salary. As for the constant coordinator changes, maybe we ought to have a pre-nuptial contract with the Offensive and defensive coordinators before we hire them or promote from within instead. I'm really getting tired of seeing former Ravens assistant coaches beating us at our own game. I thought before the season started that we would be OK if we were 4-4 going into the bye week but that didn't include losses to Oakland and Cincy at home. Not even Helen Keller could turn this thing around!

Practice ---> Play ---> Compete ---> Succeed ---> Gain Confidence ---> Win ---> Become a Champion

So far, we are competitive but we're not even close to having a winning team. See above steps

Why can't we hold on to our coaches like the Steelers do? This notion that there's great coaches out there is false, just scrubs. They're not going to come in and fix our problems. They're not going to make our CB's cover better and turn Aiken into an All pro. A Browns' fan was saying that they hope they don't fire they're coach because they need consistency. Bringing in coaches over and over, and then firing them so quick when there's a lack of talent is just asanine. We need to hold on to Harbaugh. He is this team for me. Do you want to be the browns and hire coaches every 2-3 years? Browns fans would think you're beyond spoiled and stupid for letting Harbaugh go.

Getting rid of him just looks dysfuntional. Harbaugh and Pees are not the problem, it's the organization's bad choices. We could easily be 3-0 right now. We are one piece away. They need to stop signing other teams' garbage scrubs like Arrington and Lewis. Let young guys have a chance like Campanaro, Brooks and our other young draft picks.

You've hit the nail on the head! Lack of continuity at key assistant coaching positions is a large part of the problem. However, it is less of a problem when you have a legendary head coach with a high football IQ like a Madden, a Landry, a Lombardi, a Shula, a Gibbs, a Parcells or a Belichick.  So, Joe Flacco is in his 8th year but has worked under four different OCs since 2012.

While I am not a disciple of John Harbaugh, I totally agree that he and Pees are not the problem. Its the organization's choices. They begin with the Director of Player Personnel and the buck stops on the GM's desk. Let's see. The DOPP is Vincent Newsome and the GM is Ozzie Newsome. That's kinda like hiring your son to be your OC, which didn't work out well for the Shanahans. Why not? Well, its rather obvious. If your son who is the DOPP didn't do a good job, would you, his father, recommend he be dismissed????? So, IMHO the buck stops on the desk of the person(s) who did not fix the major problem we had last year after taking the eventual SB Champs to the brink of elimination in the AFC Championship game. I suspect this part of the problem will be resolved by Mr. Bisciotti at the end of this season if our record winds up below 8-8.

I'd just like to point out Harbaugh just won us this game by out coaching Tomlin every step of the way despite the Steelers being the better team nearly across the board outside of the QB. I love that we have an aggressive coach that plays to win and not to not lose. Despite the fake field goal not working it was a great call. Harbaugh is one of the top 2-3 coaches in the league. Hopefully he remains here for another decade.

I love Harbaugh as much as the next guy, but in fairness that game was handed to us and Harbaugh made his own bad calls.

He did, but you have to admire his desire to win and not just settle. I didn't like the fake FG, but I understood it and respected it. It took some guts to make that call.

I say it again and again - some of us are really spoiled!

We might be 1-3 but after all our team played well vs. good teams! There is nothing you can do about injuries! And next year we will finally have some real good Cap space without the penalties for Rice, Ngata, J.Jones and Flacco reconstructing his Contract! Harbough and Ozzie will build a Team who can win the next 10 years! Rebuilding especial after SBs belongs to the NFL and it`s CAP system. Go and ask some Billsfans or Brownsfans if they would trade with us for the success of our last 15 years!

I always say take the points, especially in a typical Ravens/Steelers game. And please stop making Flacco sneak. Either our oline or Flacco suck at them.

I thought we did better with the sneak last year? Or is that bad memory? I could be wrong. I don't disagree on the points. I was wondering why we did it myself, but I admit it takes guts to call that. I have to admire the courage he took to call that one. That's no easy decision for him. He used to always play the safe card. We have admittedly been pretty effective on 4th down conversions, though, this year.

I could've sworn we usually have a ridiculously high conversion rate on those, and commentators always say it's because Flacco is 6'6

I'm all in on the fake field goal call, which just might trigger an evolution for Harbaugh. We'll have to see. NO ONE thought that would happen except for one Steeler luckily reacting on instinct to knock Boyle down. He don't make that play and this game ain't even close. It was a great call, even if it didn't yield a positive result. Just might help me get over all that BS w/ whatever been going on with Perriman's injury.

I'd love to know the stat, but I don't think so.

I stand by the fake field goal as a good call. Harbaugh is almost always on the money knowing when to call the special team fakes. Spence made a good play but was the only one close to being in position. Playing to win is almost always the right decision in this league. The QB sneaks are actually effective for this team quite often. Joe always goes to the same spot though and the Steelers being a familiar opponent knew where the play would go. I think it would have been better to break tendency there but I think that's hindsight too.

When has a team ever fired a coach who never had a losing season and that worked out for them?

When has a team ever fired a coach who has been to the playoffs 6 out of 7 years and that worked out for them?

Harbaugh is 73-43.   7 wins away from tying Brian Billick which means barring a collapse he will likely be the winningest coach in franchise history by ther end of this year a year less than Billick was coach.  Obviously his message isn't that stale.

How are we honestly contemplating Harbaugh being on the hot seat or his job being in jeopardy because of the possibility he may have a losing season while having to field a team with a severe lack of playmaker talent?

Sigh.

Their d line seemed to get off the snap faster than our guys. This team, for whatever reason, doesn't execute consistently.

That was a great play by the Steelers player.

If Camp is going to be out for the Browns game I could see Ozzie going after Butler (if he's available).  We definitely need a kick reterner in place of Camp as well.

Why not Ross then? Ross and Butler are both on the PS.

Don't think the fake FG was a bad call, it was blocked very well but the defender got through just enough to bring him down. Would've been big if that hadn't happened.

Harbaugh was being aggressive and that team was competing all night, on the road, on a short week through a physical game.

Are we that spoiled? There are only 6 teams out of 32 teams have a stable good winning coach both regular and post season......and Harbs is the youngest of all.....U must be kidding.....
