[News] What Has To Change For Ravens Defense To Finish?

92 posts in this topic

Years of picking at the bottom of drafts are finally catching up to this team. I still have faith in Ozzie selecting talent but there is a reason the bengals are much more talented than us right now is because they've sucked for so long and got the bigger variety of players to pick from. It's no coincidence that the only time the ravens missed the playoffs during the harbaugh years resulted in is having the best draft class during the harbaugh years which was last year. Plus we also need to get rid of these vanilla coordinators. We need an aggressive DC like Rex or even pagano back to bring back this organized chaos and not this bend but don't break crap preached by pees. Not ravens defense and will not work in a pass happy league. Pees was never a good fit for us as DC we need a guy that is on the sidelines and will be more aggressive and get in players faces when they blow coverage like Rex did and not be up in the box. Maybe some won't agree but I usually don't like coordinators that are up in the box and not on the field. I know it has it has some benefits but I don't think it outweighs the cons. As for Tressman I don't think he's a good fit either but Joe's only weapons right now is Smith Sr. And Gilmore.

Fire Dean Pees, that will be the start of the change.

Pees sucks, no way we should lose because of AJ Green, I would have had Jimmy on their number 2 and blanket AJ with a corner and Safety. Pees is evaluating whether Babin should play or not, as if he is good at evaluating talent. Also can we please bring in Brandon Lloyd the dude is fast, run great routes and average 25+ yards per game last year on a run oriented 49ers.

i believe its safe to Dean Peas days are numbered as DC, and i see why Trestman is so well traveled. Both will probably finish the season but they should be gone next year.

Pees, Decides to play Webb on the inside when he is way too stiff to play the slot, Arrington on the outside where he has struggled his entire career, Jimmy 8 Yards off instead of press, Jimmy can play with the best of WR when he is playing press .. Melvin i feel is very capable but, was rusty and hopefully Will Davis can help. Also, two weeks with not pass rush yet for no reason at all Babin in inactive. It doesn't take two weeks to learn how to rush the passer.

Words from the great Bill Belicheat.   DO YOUR JOB, it really cant be further from the truth. We dont need PLAY MAKERS, we just need players that can/will do their job. Nothing more but always less with this team. This Defense is in serious trouble, Seems like its always one step forward and THREE steps back. I still have hope but man, they are making it really, really hard. I think they are losing serious confidence now. If we do lose Thurs. then i hate to say it but there will be no coming back this year. I STILL HAVE HOPE.

Its good for this team that Big Ben isnt playing but in all honesty i would have loved for him play this thursday night.

The Defense will be fine the Offense gotta put some points on the BOARD PERIOD! Gotta keep slinging that Rock period point blank! Defense has carried this team for years and doing a pretty good job this season if you ask me just should have beat denver and holding peyton manning under 20pts isn't easy but they did! Offense gotta open it up and carry this team they owe it to the Defense! LETS GO

LOL are we watching the same games? They only did well against Denver because Manning was missing throws left and right. They sucked hardcore against Oakland and Cincy.

Honestly, the Green 80 yarder was a colossal blunder. You could literally have left the rest of the receivers on the field wide open to score and not gotten as much flak as you're liable to get letting AJ Green score from 80 yards out when you're winning the game late in the 4th. The number of people that texted me basically saying "again?" or "seriously, THAT guy?" is crazy.

When Dalton and Green themselves are pointing out after the game that they saw Green wasn't jammed on the line, and was covered by a safety, you know that a terrible coverage was called.

we have lost good position coaches on both sides of the ball and they were replaced with coaches that are either not as good teachers or they are integrating their own style and techniques that are not working. does new england ever lose coaches. brady has been blessed to be in the same offense his whole nfl career and runs that offense on his own because he knows it from front to back. flacco has had 4 off coord.. would be nice to have continuity

The bend don't break philosophy has to go...NOW...along with any morons who think it's a good philosophy. Ed and Ray are gone; and the coaches can't ccoach without them. We need coaches who are aggressive and coach like they have a pair. This passive approach has broken us. Time for an overhaul.

Steelers have been picking at the bottom of the draft for years, too.  So has New England.  Their combined record is 5-1.  Riddle me that, Batman.  It's the coaching and execution.  Our players don't suck.  If they did, we'd be getting blow off the field.  That's not the case.

salary cap is going up considerably and flacco has said he will restructure his contract so next season we should have plenty of $$ to resign our own guys and go after some prized free agents. pass rushers, cb, physical receiver, lt must be addressed.

DEAN PEES HAS TO GO.

The Players in the defense are sooooooo used to that voice . we need an aggressive DC bottom line.

watching the offense play makes me wanna cry . They are using the same Play Calls from 4yrs ago. I often predict their plays before it is run and by the way I never played football in my life. One can just imagine what the opponents sees and predicts when playing Baltimore.

Yeah the 3rd and short when they telegraphed that LT run was ridiculous. He was hit before he even secured the damn ball

What was Kendrick Lewis thinking when he let Green fly pass him, secondly has Ed Reed' tapes been banned from the facility because Will Hill surely didn't get copies of them. Safety is suppose to be occupied by high football IQ guys... Example when Ed Reed was injured for a few games in a row and Zibby stepped in for him, Zibby knew he wasn't Reed and played dam near 20-25 yards off the ball keeping everything in front of him, hell I couldn't see Zibby on TV until a pass was thrown. He was smart enough to not get beat deep.

What Has to Change for the Ravens Defense To Finish? Simple the DC! I could say 1. get off of the field on 3rd down. 2. Make plays 3. Eliminate Breakdowns 4. Not give up 30 points consistently 5. Communicate better 6. Take more pride 7. Be Better 8. Eliminate Penalties - These are all things that was suggested above. I can re-iterate these but when the personal is right (as Webb and Harbs suggested above) and there are that many problems that answer is simple... where is the accountability and that falls on the coaching staff. These issues have been consistent since Dean Peers got here and His chances are about ran out! (I hope). When there is talent and there are that many problems... and the scheme has been an issue. It comes down to one thing. THe DC - What Has To Change For Ravens Defense to Finish. Get a new DC and we will see an instantaneous change for the better!

Everyone saying Dean Pees, that's possible but I have questions for this guy as well-Matt Weiss (cornerbacks coach), what the hell is going on with your secondary???

I mean no one is running on us, inside linebackers looking good, dumervil struggling a bit because he's the only pass rusher, but the secondary is playing very secondary....

And at least 1 corner.

Well yea you're right. We have Tray walker but I guess he is not what the coaches expected? Regardless our entire secondary outside of Jimmy & Webb are hurting us.

I really feel like it actually was a cover 3 look like Harbaugh had mentioned in his PC. They had 2 deep routes on that side of the field and Hill and Smith were late to converge.  Hill was caught staring down the front side and stopped moving his feet.  Even when the pass was thrown to Green he didn't break on it like he normally does.  The way Kendrick Lewis reacted to a streak route indicated to me that he was NOT in straight man cover even if our defensive alignment at the snap looked like we were.

Was I the only one waiting for A.J. Green to go off on us. When Mosely and Doom made they great play, I just couldn't celebrate the lead because I knew it was a matter of time before 18 to get us. Damn if he didn't.

Well, coulda, woulda, shoulda....tackled. I have seen so many games lost due to missed tackles.

We had them right where we needed them. Jimmy missed a tackle on AJ's long TD, Mosley got shook by Dalton on the TD scramble. Oh, and the penalties, ouch. Well, we need to go 10-3 down the stretch.

In other news, Ben's injury is a gift to us. Finally, looks like we will be using more 2 TE sets, scratch the 3-1-1.

Lets get it!!

Ah yes, I was wondering why Jimmy was not locked on AJ for the entire game. That made no sense to me. I would rather AJ go off with our best coverage than to explode through swiss cheese. Jimmy was our missing piece last year and we treated him like a dime back in this game. tsk tsk tsk.

tbh i miss our old defense more than winning. It is absolutely ridiculous to watch the opponents just twirl our defense around their fingers and score on will. Lewis and reed must be so disappointed

What the defense needs is a pass rusher. Jarad Allen traded to Panthers for a 6th round pick, why can't Ozzie do something like that instead of basement bargain players.
