[News] Ravens React To A.J. Green Beating Them Again

I love Jimmy Smith. Every CB gives up the occasional TD, I just wanna see him bounce back from this game and keep A. Brown out of the game next week.

I mean it's no big deal. He's only their best player by their own admission. So what if he's killed us repeatedly in the past in close games in the 4th quarter? It's totally excusable to call plays that don't bracket coverage on him and assign your best coverage options to him when the game is on the line. NOT!

Let's also not forgot that we cycled through 3 different CB2 options this game. Webby already got demoted as expected after blowing 2 coverages last week against Crabtree. Melvin got the start and got manhandled by Marvin Jones twice. Arrington was assigned as the 3rd option to stop the bleeding and Webby was shifted to nickle.

What happened to scouting good talent and developing players?

Two things are killing this franchise:

1. The success of the first 7 years of the Harbaugh era and drafting late in the early rounds year in and year out is catching up to us;

2. Tying up large cap dollars in players that have proven to be injury prone.

Defense on a guy like AJ Green starts at the line of scrimmage, and we are not Jamming these guys at all. And The lack of a True Free Safety to give some strong side help is Killing Us. We need to pick up some Tall, FAST Corners and a get a Safety who can actually fly around the field and make plays. Lastly, the loss of Suggs is really showing up, we cant only blame the secondary if the D Line can't get to the QB. I'm curious to see the stats this season on Long Plays given up by a Defense?

This secondary cannot stop the most pedestrian QBs and WRs at this point........much less a Brady or Rodgers. Looks like this will be a transition year where we'll circle all the offseason needs that are mounting.

Going back to the 2014 playoffs, through the 2015 preseason, and through today's debacle, that is 7 of 8 games where Ravens defenses coughed up the lead. And the finger points where? More to come. Mike Vick will be reborn for one night on Thursday.

I watched Jimmy Smith line up on Green. I was happy to see him right on him instead of 10 yards deep, but, when the ball was snapped, Jimmy didn't even try to slow him down. You can't let a guy like Green just take off and run without getting hands on him. Good grief man. Does anyone on this team watch films of opponents? By the way, Arrington really sucks. Who the hell put this guy on the team. He is worse than those we have, who can't cover.

Nice to see they threw Melvin right back into the starting lineup so he could pick up where he left off in the AFC divisional - getting ROASTED. Jimmy Smith and the almighty Will Hill looked bad today as well, time to make some changes to our game plans. Justin Forsett was also a dumpster fire today, our running game is awful as a whole. Having a hard time finding any positives outside of Steve Smith, Brandon Williams and 2 defensive plays. Where was the great Timmy Jernigan???

Say what u will about the loses on the defensive side but the offense and Flacco are just as bad at times. The offense can't take a half off like they've done. Total team loss all 3 phases.

Man this is embarrassing as hell. Again.. we lose to them, again after the high expectations that was build for this team. What a total melt down by this not so "Play Like A Raven" defense.

A.J.Green is a high class receiver, he's been on a lot of Bengals lost before they started to turn themselves around, no one know better that him how it feels to lose and I'm more happy that he's proving himself now, He's there when it counts

Seems like AJ Green, Red Rifle, and Cincy have had our number the past few years even more so than Pittsburgh.

Looks like the guards have changed...

Our two best DBs, Smith and Hill are playing like 2nd tier players. Yet we are paying Smith like a starting shutdown CB. That says a lot about the current state of affairs. We are overpaying players who are not able to play good constantly, make huge mistakes or are injury prone. This is what causes teams to have slump years. I'm seriously afraid that we'll have 2-3 years ahead of us where 0.500 is the best we can do. Too many holes to fill in starting lineup to rebuild this team in 1 year (CB, S, OLB, T, G and WR after this season, RB).

A J Green has to love our secondary. They make him look even better than he is when we play them. They know that he is the threat and yet they give him way to much room to make plays and he does time and again. I sure hope that Steve B gets tired of this crap and gives the order to replace some of the defensive coaches. I can think of two that need to go right now.

A real joke is Jimmy Smith. So far away from the receiver. On one play of him trying to defend Green going in for the touchdown, Smith just gave up! I say get rid of him. He makes one "paid to do" play and does ONE intercept, and everyone thinks he is a hero. HorseCRAP. Either get rid of Smith and Arrington, or get a NEW defensive cordinator and/or defensive backfield coach. They all suck

We need new passing plays, like other NFL teams have. 5-8 yds over the middle, quick, short and sweet! Stop running up the middle, especially with that type of defensive line up front. We were overpowered. Next, start fining these players for stupid penalties! Really a 116yds in penalties?! Teams must be rolling on the ground laughing at the Ravens!

We aren't jamming receivers at the Line. It's common sense and plain as day. They're getting way too much cushion and are allowed to pick up speed going into their routes while the dbs are on their heels. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the scheme has been a problem. The talent is obviously there. It's not being utilized. Combine that with poor execution and your screwed. why no babin? Upshaw lets an interception doink off his helmet. Man I miss Suggs already. Esp going into heinz

Yep, this loss comes from all 3 phases of our game. Joe is NOT elite so that discussion is over and our 2ndary is atrocious! What happened to the cohesive O line? That was supposed to be our strongest unit (It appears that is IS but, that's not saying much!).

We've been spoiled over the last few seasons. I say it's probably a time where we will get kicked around a bit. My suspicion is, our coaching staff has been decimated almost every year and it is showing. We were in the wrong defense a lot of times and it still looks like there's guys who still don't know the playbook.

It's going to be a rough year but one we'll all sit through of course.

I'll take a wild guess at the two defensive coaches you believe need to go right now. My guesses are Defensive Coordinator Dean Pees, and the secondary coach, but I don't even know his name. How right am I?

What happened to Jimmy Smith? Was it the injury or the big contract that regressed him?

I said it before he was never in the same sentence as Revis. He is okay at best, he gets turned around, slow to recover, and his instincts are average. I dont care whether he is 100% or not he is just okay in a secondary that is in shambles once again.

manofsteel - We could get rid of jimmy smith like you say. but Webb, Arrington, Hill, Lewis and from what we saw of Melvin yesterday are playing much much worse. Lewis might be just as bad as Michael Huff was.
