The good, bad and ugly vs Bengals

Torrey gave "0" fantasy points this week...  Kaepernick "4".  Even with all those weapons out there the Niners still suck.

Torrey isn't good enough to justify the deal the Niners gave him, but he would be MUCH more useful to us than he is to them. We desperately need speed on the outside. Flacco knows how to use it, Kaepernick apparently doesn't.

Not sure I can agree with that.  There's definitely an issue on the offensive side of the ball, but it's the defense that keeps blowing the leads.  We're managing to put up a respectable amount of points on offense, but the defense is where the real issue is right now.

I agree with you but I do think Torrey was developing decent chemistry with Joe and could have been a factor with his speed .

We have zero speed on offense .

I didn't get to see the game.. forced to watch Squeelers, who started CB ? Webb?? Or Melvin?

Webb, but Melvin was the de facto nickel CB (with Webb sliding to the slot) for the 1st Q+.  Melvin proceeded to get called for 3 penalties and give up a TD.  He was benched after that.

The sad thing is....we all know this team is going to turn it around and go on a tear at some point, probably starting this week....and it may already be too late.

Trying to be optimistic - say we go 10 - 3 from here on out. Puts us at 10-6, which is not a guaranteed playoff spot. We'd have to have some luck as well, beating the right teams, etc...

This is my thinking. We are playing most of our competition for WC later in the season. Still control our fate.... sorta

Absolutely...  you got it...  Not sure about that either.

I won't make it a huge Torrey debate in efforts to stay on topic, but I never felt he had great chemistry with Joe and that's a big reason why he's gone, other than the salary of course.  I think he'd certainly help at this point if only to open up the middle of the field, but the issue still lies on defense and the fact that we can't stop a drive right now.  We can put up as many points as we can, but it seems our defense is going to make sure that's not enough with the way things have been going.

Think about it .Even with Torrey on this team with Steve Smith , we could easily be 3-0 or 2-1 at worst .

And that's with only one additional playmaker

Torrey smith didn't have enough aggression last playoffs to get the ball/snatch it out of the air. We knew Torrey's ceiling/limitations. He was a welcomed addition...but he was a number #2 at best as he could get open on some patterns and front run to run up stats/points....but he couldn't run the route tree like Steve smith and other #1s. Torrey smith was pretty much a low grade moss....cris carter & Wes welker were the consistent route running guys and were not afraid of the middle. Edited by RedFire

Hence why Perriman could make a difference

Not a good day at all for the CBs.  Webb wasn't great but wasn't bad.  Arrington wasn't good but wasn't awful.  Jimmy Smith and the safeties were the main culprits today.  Smith, Hill, and Lewis all played very poorly, aside from a nice INT from Jimmy.

Ravens fans harp on "I miss Ray", but it's clear that Ed Reed was the cog that made the defense go. Even when he was washed up his intelligence helped the pass D succeed in some clutch situations despite Pees. Once he left it went downhill.

Did you understand that before we let him slip off to Houston and the Jets, or has his absence made that clear?

But the larger question is, why didn't our management adequately plan for that transition.

Yeah we're not done yet.

Seriously, not kidding though, someone needs to explain to Joe that every game is pretty much now a playoff game. We need playoff Joe.

I honestly feel like Torrey would be much better this year in Trestman offense and than he was in Kube's. Kube's was very timing heavy and it took Torrey a while to get it. If Joe would revert back to his early days when he would hit receivers in stride down field than this offense might be potent enough to win games because we would have legitimate big play ability. Every game would be a shootout though.

I didn't mind him leaving, he did nothing for HOU/NYJ. As far as I'm concerned he retired in 2012.

It's just clear that Pees has no idea what to do with the secondary. Guys who were okay elsewhere (Lewis/Arrington) come here and suck. Guys who either stunk here (Stewart) or were okay here (Ihedigbo/Graham) leave and play better elsewhere. We need better DBs but it's clear to me that this isn't entirely personnel related. Reed was never going to last forever, we need a coach who can actually coach.

Gotta think Jimmy really isn't 100% from his Lisfranc, not that he'd ever let onto that

Didn't know Foot injures caused mental lapses.

Don't make excuses for him. He got destroyed because he played like trash. Thats it.

Jimmy played like McAlister after an all nighter!

Although it would have been an insanely great catch, that last pass to williams was on the money

I also saw 2 other wrs open that could have got the first. The ball to max was under thrown and max had to slow down and got his feet tangled. Oh well.

The lack of communication on the backend is something that really seems to stand out.  Lewis absolutely got burned on Green's 80 yard TD, but you could also tell that he was expecting some help over the top from Hill who was very late getting there.  Hill was late a couple of other times as well, and sometimes it looks like miscommunication where help was expected but wasn't there for whatever reason.  It just wasn't a good day for the secondary.

I think it has more with the scheme... we can't get much of a pass rush and our dbs have to play off the wrs.

lol

Look the offense played like crap the first half no doubt. But Flacco has put up more than respectable QB ratings and completion percentages the last 2 games. He isn't the issue.

The really sad part is that if Kubiak was still here I have every confidence we are 3-0 right now. I hate that man and I hope the Broncos crash & burn hard.

The problem is that we have to rely on the offense to ball out and we have exactly one player for the QB to rely on right now, no running game, and the O line is reverting back to Castillo days, pre-Kubiak.

I guess I should say that I was only talking about Flacco's performances in Cincy. I haven't recalled the last time he's played decent in Cincy. Seems such a long time ago.

Brown was "open" but the safety definitely would've jumped. Probably a pick.

SSS was also open but I think he likely would've been short.

the kendrick lewis idea was a bad idea

people knock darien stewart but he's better than lewis.

I didn't get the excitement on this board or the FO when we signed this guy. He's average at BEST.

To be fair, I don't really get it when people like you try and tell me how great Hill is, either. They are both mediocre safeties, but Hill can step his game up at times to be more. Those times are getting fewer and further between.

I don't know if that's on the secondary coach or the players. The Ravens secondary at coaching stand point is young and inexperienced.

You're talking about an injury that keeps you off that foot for three months and in a boot for one to two more. Then, you'll start a three month long rehabilitation process that puts you at about eight months total. This is not a joke of an injury.

So, it's an injury that can take three quarters of a year to heal and then the player has to regain confidence in the foot, including running and planting, in addition to working back to football shape. Injuries are very mental if they're serious

Why do people not believe we are putting up enough points?  We are scoring. just starting later... We're staying in stride.  Even if we scored more, the opponent would gain more possessions as well, and the opponent would score more too, because the D just cannot stop them...  So the truth is, it's actually doesn't matter if we scored more.  It's the defense.  CBS stated it pretty clearly today... with all the new rules in this game, it's very difficult to play defense in this pass happy game.

Jimmy suffered that injury 10 months ago. No excuses.
