The good, bad and ugly vs Bengals

757 posts in this topic

I don't think Webb had a bad game. I didn't see him much so it gives me a good indication that he played well.

I don't get the hate for him either.  He's been beat a couple of times this season, but overall, I think he's done well.  It's not superstar Webb, but he's more than serviceable out there.  I think we're getting the better version of him in the slot, which is why they really wanted Melvin out there.

Nobody likes to lose or see their team lose but some Ravens fans act like The Ravens been like The Browns, Buccaneers, Rams, and etc for that past five years . This is the first year ever in John Harbaugh coaching career where The teams has lost three times in a row in the first three weeks of the regular season and want to know why because the team has been so successful for so many years but that doesn't matter to some Ravens fans. It hasn't even been that long since The Ravens went deep into the playoffs and almost nearly beat The Patriots.

First time in Ravens history we been 0-3. However Harbaugh is still the best coach in Ravens history and I said that due to consistency before he won a Super Bowl.

Brian Billick lost the locker room too many times, ran cup cake training camps, and loved Kyle boller too much. Marvin Lewis telling the defense to score was more important than Billick during the super bowl run.

Offense also looked Cam Cameron-like today.  Lots of 3 yard passes on like 3rd and 7.  4 yard passes to a covered running back on first and 25.  The only reason anything worked was because Steve Smith is amazing (same as last game.)  It's the players aren't executing part of the Cam Cameron offense.  Put our players in terrible situations and hope they make a ridiculous play.  When they don't, it's bad execution.  When they do, it's good execution.  Luckily we have a guy that seems to do the impossible every play.  I see it falling apart pretty soon if it doesn't change.

So - for those calling for his head ... if he goes in season, then he needs to be replaced with an internal promotion. Any ideas of who that would be? Anyone behind the scenes that would run a system they can get on board with (whatever that might be).

Yeah - it is horrid. We've got some good players, but we've got a general dysfunction going on.

Ted Monachino is the first guy that comes to mind. I really don't know how I feel about firing Pees atm because if we do promote a guy and he lights up the defense, he'll be gone next offseason. That's life it seems for us.

Then again, I would be OK with that if it got us a Super Bowl. Who knows. This team needs something to play for and fight for in order to win. I see no dog in these guys!

We will have some decent cap space but not that great because we still have to sign Yanda which is sure to cost us $$$ We need to really trim off some of the fat though. Pitta got paid because nobody had the heart to release him.

Him retiring or being cut next year on saves $600k,I think he retires.

Here's the problem on defense : If Jimmy has a bad game ,we are in big big trouble .

Webb is done and needs to get released . The rest of the corners are complete garbage .

complete HOT garbage.

to be honest..i can see us pulling out a win vs the steelers..

without ben obviously.

vick is an accident and our Run D is good enough..esp as the steelers o line without pouncy is suspect

i'd rather lose the game than create false hope ( ala 2013)

Absolutely disagree. Hope, whether false or otherwise, is better than no hope.

This view, which also is supported up by those who are looking for us to tank to get a better draft pick, ignores the potential long term damage that can be done with a season gone awry. We've worked long and hard to build a winning tradition and I don't want to see that go by the wayside.

It took a very long time to become the team that didn't wait for bad things to happen in big, close games, but made bad things happen to other teams. This team is young in many areas where we need these guys to be our future. We need to get them to learn to be competitive - not to learn to lose.

all teams have a crap period or season ( not named the patriots and that will change when the brady-bellichek-gronk era ends).

its part of the process. you need to draft early .Look at the ravens in the mid late 90's..all top 15 picks every year . It helped build an identity. Outside of reed, every great player we had was a top 12 pick.

it needs to happen. it creates stalwarts

I can give you one recent example of what can happen. Jim Harbaugh and the niners. One year he is in the SB and the next year he starts losing control of his team and the next year he is gone. At some point someone has to take the blame. We can point fingers at the defense one week and the offense the next but sooner or later someone is responsible for the whole affair.

let's see how that works out for them.

Can you imagine when SSS just doesn't show up one time this year.....we may get shut out.

Look no further than week one when he was shut down, the offense did nothing.

The sad thing is....we all know this team is going to turn it around and go on a tear at some point, probably starting this week....and it may already be too late.

Trying to be optimistic - say we go 10 - 3 from here on out. Puts us at 10-6, which is not a guaranteed playoff spot. We'd have to have some luck as well, beating the right teams, etc...

Grim...  The only part of this that I disagree with is the part where you say "he'll be gone next offseason"...  Only if we don't get him under contract. If a coach is promoted, they should be under contract.  Then hey aren't going anywhere next season.  Give them the incentive they need to light a fire under our players, and have them want to stay.  I mean, do we not have any team loyalty by coaches???

Ravens fans harp on "I miss Ray", but it's clear that Ed Reed was the cog that made the defense go. Even when he was washed up his intelligence helped the pass D succeed in some clutch situations despite Pees. Once he left it went downhill.

Because Reed played the ball....  not the players....  That's the difference.  He had enough respect from the other defensive players that he was able to play "outfield" back there.

Well if your are an opposing d coordinator what do you tell your team? Shut down Smith

and we win . Our running backs won't scare them and the rest of the receivers certainly won't .

Gilmore at TE is promising but then he disappears ,not sure why .

The fact is we have only one playmaker in Smith right now .

We did have Torrey ,Jacoby , Rice ,Pitta and Anquan at one point .All playmakers

Jacoby was not a great WR, but he would be very useful right now. At least the threat of the deep ball would be there. Not sure cutting him was really necessary, especially with KR/PR being so uncertain. I see why they did it...but again not sure it was necessary.

Agree , I think from here on out smith is double teamed. Aiken doesn't scare frank walker or Corey ivy, so they will cover him with a scrub.

That depends. What if the DC wants to be a HC? We had Kubiak under contract but we let him walk. Why? Because it's a courtesy. You don't want to be the team that blocks a guy's promotion a la Bengals.

Yeah this will be the formula . Did the front office really think we could win with one playmaker (Smith) and a

rookie receiver . We need more pieces to the puzzle than that !

Yes they did, because they learned nothing from what happened just TWO years ago. It's insane.

Think about it .Even with Torrey on this team with Steve Smith , we could easily be 3-0 or 2-1 at worst .

And that's with only one additional playmaker

Torrey gave "0" fantasy points this week...  Kaepernick "4".  Even with all those weapons out there the Niners still suck.

Ray was "The General" and Ed was the cog that made the "secondary" go!  He was the Robin to Ray's Batman on this defense!  The "U" brothers!  They were a force to be recogned with!  And now that THEY (and their intelligence, heart, soul and passion for this game) are gone, we're witnessing "life" without them.  As many in here love to keep saying..."We're moving on beyond Ray Lewis and Ed Reed".  Well, I say....this is what that looks like....0-3.

NO ONE on this team (with the exception of Steve Smith, Sr.) plays with that type of passion...NO ONE!

Torrey would be making a difference for us . I'm certain of it .

Not sure I can agree with that.  There's definitely an issue on the offensive side of the ball, but it's the defense that keeps blowing the leads.  We're managing to put up a respectable amount of points on offense, but the defense is where the real issue is right now.
