The good, bad and ugly vs Bengals

757 posts in this topic

If it wasn't for Steve Smith playing his heart out this game wouldn't have even been close at the end. If it wasn't for the Bengals losing heart after going for it on 4th instead of going up 3 scores I think this would have been a blow out

Sorry..you are overrating players. Carl davis has played 3 games in his career.

We don't have a game wrecker on our D line.

Overreacting about recent draft selections. Please pause for the irony here.

Well, given I've seen enough of your posts ... I know what you are driving at. I think some of the Ozzie trashing is kind of a stretch ... but I'll say one of his traditional strong points in finding some low cost vets to come in and start and not only play well, but be major contributors ... that has failed for what would appear to be the 3rd consecutive year at the FS position.

There's a lack of quality single high safeties across the league, so it's hard to find too much fault in Ozzie for that.  In the most recent draft, Collins, Tartt, and Richards were the only safeties taken in the top 3 rounds and all of them are SS.  There just isn't much coming out of the college ranks, and teams that have a good one don't let them go.

I think what troubles me most is that Jimmy of all people seems to be getting picked on by opposing QBs. It's not all Pees' fault, even if he does have all his CBs playing back most plays.

Jacoby Jones was a solid returner and solid number 3 receiver for The Ravens in 2012 and 2013. If you want to say he had terrible hands then 2014 was only season where he dropped the most passes as a Ravens which was 4.

A first round pick turning into a "solid" #3 WR is a wasted pick.

We beat PIT and Vick next week.

Yeah, I remember when Charlie Batch beat us.  If we can stop their run, we may have a chance, but unless we blitz like the krieg, we are not gonna get to Vick.

PIT has beaten us with Batch so...

exactly

e

That was then, this is now

True, but its in Pittsburgh right?

Meanwhile, McPhee with back to back sacks.  It'd be nice to have his pass rush right now.  Dumervil is getting all of the attention.

That's right, we let our closest player to Suggs walk to save the owners money. Salary Cap you know....the rich get richer.

In the next 9 games - the only game that really looks like a clear loss is AZ. Obviously, we'll be lucky to split them if we don't start playing better, but all I'm saying is if we can get some aspects of our game on track, we could conceivably make a run.

We need a really good draft anyway, many more personnel mistakes and we waste the Flacco Era.

I'm with you on the first part. 3-4 is definitely attainable.

After that, we follow up the bye with 4 very winnable games. Then, it is tough to finish, but it could put us in position to have a chance.

I'll be ok with 4-12 and demanding in regard to the draft selections.

But if we can shake up our receiver roster and get our horrific secondary somewhere close to average, we could get to 9-7 and sneak in....maybe.  That's going 9-4 down to close out, but can't remember the last time we won 4 games in a row.

For offense the issue is mostly personnel. Aiken wouldn't make most teams, yet he's our #2 receiver. Get him out of there and put in Waller, might as well see if he can do something. Hurst is awful but there's not much we can do about that until Monroe comes back. I have no idea what's going on with Osemele.

Trestman also needs to learn how to use our tight ends more. Maybe he's not comfortable calling Kubiak's playbook. If he's not, he needs to ditch it and call plays as he wants to call them.

A lot of the offensive struggles can be laid at the feet of Ozzie and Eric. Congrats for finally investing in offense in the draft this year, but it should've been done earlier. Maxx is only 20 and will take some time to develop, and even if Perriman were on the field expecting every rookie to be Odell Beckham is too much to ask. Perriman was pick 26, not pick 6 for a reason.

Defense is definitely coaching. Our secondary is horrible, but it seems like no matter who we have back there, these Pees defenses have the same issue (and note that these were the same complaints when he was in NE). I just about lost it seeing Lewis matched up with AJ Green. Lewis was decent in Houston. Arrington was decent in NE. Are you telling me these guys suddenly forgot how to play? And look at Darian Stewart---clueless here but making plays for Denver. Not a coincidence. Pees needs to go.

I suppose that is true ... but somebody has to be doing a better job at that position that we are. I'm just citing it as a weakness (even relatively speaking).

Well he wasn't our wasted pick though.

The early post tried to justify Perriman becoming a Jacoby clone. Therefore he is our first round pick in that scenario.

Would be nice if there was a decent afternoon game to watch.

I'm not even getting games, I live in Philly so it's nothing but Pope talk.

Maybe I should've went to that mass and asked him to bless our team.

Definitely a weakness, but it's starting to become one of the hardest to fill.  Much like QB, there aren't 32 quality starters at FS let alone a backup that's likely going to come in and light the world on fire.  It's becoming one of those positions that you keep no matter the cost if you have one.

There's a lot to be said when both teams accumulate that many flags. That's officials dictating the game. The first drive of the game alone had 5. That's absurd.

AMEN!!! It's ridiculous.

The run game is worst than I thought. Earlier I posted last week's gains for Forsett. He actually had 10 carries for 13 yards (1.3 average).

That's because we are still paying Ray Rice. 2 more years of carrying that garbage on our payroll. We can free up some cap space by releasing the likes of Canty ( who canty play anymore ) Pitta because his career is over ( just ask Bo Jackson ) and some other dead weight we are dragging around like Aiken and Webb.

Ray rice and ngata's dead money come off after this year, not two years

Flacco is currently on pace for 4600yards while throwing to 1 WR and not having a running game.

that's what makes him elite, right, the big stats? I think I have seen enough of trestman to finally form an opinion....it isn't very flattering.

I wasn't saying Perriman was going to be solid # 3 my only message was about Jacoby Jones  only whom Sami have consistently applied was  terrible receiver for The Ravens which totally beyound true.

At least we'll have some decent cap space right? Rice and Ngata should fall off. What about Pitta's money though, what happens there? Still not even sure why he got a deal.

I rarely find myself agreeing with your posts but I agree with about 95% of this.  I don't fauly Ozzie and DeCosta for trying to build a strong defense but it unfortunately didn't work out as expected.  When Jimmy Smith is suddenly playing like Dominque Foxworth, it's hard to know what is going on with that unit.

And I fully agree that Aiken needs to go.  9 players caught a pass today but our "#2 WR" wasn't one of them.  Pathetic.  Worst #2 since before Mark Clayton

Jimmy is kind of showing who he really is. A good corner, but not one of the best. Will Hill had a very poor day. Crockett was the only one who showed up on either side in the first half. Joe finally did what everyone wanted and turned into a good fantasy QB, but unfortunately that has come at the expense of winning games. The running game, I mean, what running game?

All this and we still had a chance to win against a great team. That makes it so much harder on us fans. Heartbreak every week.

Ravens pretty much stop the run make them one dimensional and they still throw the ball all over the defense. Aiken a no show brown with his one 20 yard catch per game camp barely plays i dont know why i dont think i have seen him drop a pass that touches his hands.

We will have some decent cap space but not that great because we still have to sign Yanda which is sure to cost us $$$ We need to really trim off some of the fat though. Pitta got paid because nobody had the heart to release him.

We wouldn't have had to release him though, he still had a year left before FA. Considering his injury giving him a big extension was an absolutely horrible decision.
