Team sports can be strange at times. I remember Ray Lewis describing some of the games during 2012 where we just came out flat. Tackles were missed. Coverages were blown. Passes were dropped. Runningbacks kept picking wrong holes. And we couldn't string toghether a win. But the very next week everything "clicked" and we won. The same 2012 squad that won a championship got blown out by the Texans and embarassed at home by Peyton -- only to turn around and outgun and play solid defense when it mattered against both Mannings, Luck, Brady, and Kaepernick when they were burning hot.

Lewis just said "that's just sports, you move on that quickly." So I guess all we can do is recapture the focus, keep grinding, believe in the team, and claw our way back inch by inch.

The 12th defender in Raven Nation will be behind you full throat.

Everyone has us losing this game. Sad because this is our house. Our first game at home this season, were talking about the Ravens football club, and they have us losing in front of our fans to the bengals. And honestly, the only players on defense who really understand the importance of this meeting is most likely only Courtney Upshaw, Jim SMith, and Webb. Everyone else is new.

I would like to see Mosley rise up as a leader. The truth is no one can fill role that Ray Lewis made here. That was a one in a lifetime kind of player that we had the fortunate of watching and being a fan of.

Everyone must show up in this game. And the CBs need to stop playing 10 yards off. It is so insanely stupid that they do this over and over and over, getting picked apart, and changing nothing. Coaching plain sucked, and players plain sucked. Suggs is out...so what! Get over it and do your freaking job! Last week's D would hv gotten beat by a corporate games flag football team.

We gave teams the recipe on how to wear us down with quick throws and hurry up offense. They need to play tight man to man defense if they can. Starts with the defensive scheme so Pees better not play no damn zone again or i'll jump through the screen and smack him out that booth.

Every single year we lose to a team that we should have won to...  I'm sure glad we got that out of the way early this year.

What can be expected is the D should do better on Sunday because the QB isn't as mobile as Carr. When they faced an immobile Manning they had a much better time getting to the QB but the mobile one made it look like an exercise in futility. One thing that did not happen was an adjustment at halftime to correct the problem and if there was some they were woefully inadequate.

True the D is under a lot of pressure Sunday but the Ravens need to find that running game. If the Bengals succeed in shutting down the run and make us one dimensional it could be a long afternoon.

I'm not worried at all! Defense will "Represent" as usual! When they get 3 and outs touchdowns are needed and not running up the middle! The run game has to be inflicted in 3rd and 4th quarters but when the Defense does its job the Ravens gotta capitalize on the accomplishment! Three and outs are hard to come by and how many did the Defense force the broncos into?! "Any Dawgs in the house"?! Woof woof woof woof! Let's go!

what if we turn our first two games around? We would all be on the offenses back for not scoring and praising the defense for holding Manning to NO TDs. The truth is we came out flat in the Oakland game and paid the price. This week our defense will be back and hopefully so will our offense. I see our biggest problem is we can't score a TD when the game is on the line. The last 3 times we've tried, Joe has thrown an interception.

Too many fans were over confident leading to Oakland. It's been the sure sign of a comig let down in recent years.

The fans don't play in the game. The defense was clearly overconfident and sleepwalking through the game in Oakland. If they are not up for this game while playing at home, their season will implode by Friday morning (won't win in Pittsburgh). Sorry. Truth.

NOT true Eisenberg. The coaching staff and Joe Vanilla- ALONG WITH the entire defense should shoulder the "most pressure". Joe has been in the position to win the last THREE games and has not. His accuracy has been WAY off. Yes it is a team game re wins and losses, however, the highest paid position on the team is what ?....the QB. On the flip side, our defense has been suspect for quite some time for a various of reasons. I don't wear rose colored glasses. On paper- unless we change our game planning ( Joe do WHAT YOU HAVE TO TO WIN THE GAME; buy time ala other QBS in the league- like one QB in our division that has been doing it for years- and usually with a suspect line) that I will NOT mention)on both sides of the ball, along with better / consistent play we will get crushed. Back long ago in my betting days I had learned that, just when something looks too good or appears to go one way- it normally does not. Lets see where it goes. Regardless, the coaching staff and Joe- ALONG WITH the the entire defense will have to "shoulder the most pressure" when it comes to this game!

I'm more concerned about the offense. The Bengals have CBs who can probably cover our receivers without any help, just like Denver did, which means they'll be able to keep their safeties up to stop the run and send extra blitzers at Joe. I think the key to this game will be to spread them out and go up tempo from the start. It worked in Oakland, and we were even able to move the ball in Denver when we did that. Trying to establish a power run game early will probably just get us stuffed, put us in third and long, and our receivers will be blanketed and Flacco won't have any time to throw. I'd rather us not do that again. That's my take on it. We'll see if Trestman agrees.

The writers who write these blogs work for the org. They are probably told that criticizing a coach is a no no, and a boot out the door. Who tells the corners to play ten yds. off the receiver. Our red zone offense struggles. If "no phase of the unit is immune from scrutiny" does this include the coaches. Maybe its time to pick on them too rather then find excuses always on the playing field.

Connect the dots Cincy > Oakland > Us. When a team destroys a team you lose to - pretty good litmus test. Barely scored against them - look like 07 Pats against us. Prove ME wrong! Go Ravens!

The truth shall set you free. Amen brother. Somebody buy this man a drink. Bengals are better on every front than either of our 1st 2 opponents. They have 4 solid corners and maybe the best safety duo in the AFC. D-line can get at you with no help. Other side of the ball just as explosive. If they had a decent QB they'd be a perennial SB favorite.

Pees has to have the CBs play press coverage 80/90% of the time. CBs playing back allows too many uncontested yards. Flacco has to become clutch again. Had he not under thrown Crockett in Denver and Aiken and Waller in Oakland or simply hit a wide open SSS in Oakland, the Ravens would be 2-0. Games are determined by 3, 4 plays in clutch situations and Flacco isn't coming through. Yes, 33 points should win a game and keeping Peyton out of the end zone should win a game but sometimes clutch play is required in those situations to ensure victory and we haven't seen it.

It's troubling how this current version of the Ravens defense lives off the reputation of the past. The past few years, the defense has been giving up points late, yet it's always if only Joe had made the throw or the offense scored more point. 33 point is enough against Raider at home or on the road. The as 2 14-point leads should have been enough in the playoffs. Defense just needs to man up or bring in more talent. Offensively. Ravens need to realize their mismatches are at the TE position and target them more. Gilmore and Williams are mismatches. Raven most run the ball and control both lines.
