Monroe's concussion

26 posts in this topic

...must have been a doozy.  He didn't practice again today.  I don't ever recall seeing a guy be out almost 2 weeks for a concussion.  Not saying it hasn't happened, I just don't recall hearing about it.

Jordan Cameron missed like 4 or 5 weeks last year with a concussion.  Josh McCown just got cleared, and he was on the same timeline as Monroe.  Will Rackley, who was on IR last year, still mentions that he gets headaches consistently over a year later.  That ended his career.  It's not uncommon.  You can't play around with concussions.  You have to make sure they're alright before they get back on the field.

Well r ♿️ 3 was down for awhile this preseason with a concussion and wasn't cleared to play for a little over 2 weeks I believe. But it seemed like in that situation a few other things may have been at play.

Concussions suck and no joke to begin with. Iv had one before when I played Football, IMO, Id take nearly any injury over a concusion, they're a pain to deal with. Obviously everyone knows this but for those who don't please realize its something serious.

Concussions are nasty. I had one after jumping into swimming pool that looked deeper than it was - I don't ever want to feel the way I felt the rest of the summer.

And it gets worse and takes longer to recover after multiple ones. Brandon Stokely I think had trouble while back with us in 2013. Wes Welker's career is pretty much over because of multiple concussions. Couple of rugby players come to mind as well.

Incidentally, Luke Kuechly is likely to miss another game, like Monroe:

Does anyone really think that the damage done by concussions heals with time?

To my knowledge, nerve cells, (The Brain included), do not regenerate in any manner.

What "concussion protocol' is doing is letting the blood get absorbed, but the damage to the brain has been inflicted. The deed is done.

Really not sure how football as it is now played is going to survive into the future without written assumption of risk forms and even then as we've just seen in the Br*dy matter, courts are eager to impose their own safeguards, regardless of what the NFL has outlined collectively.

Austin Collie and Wes Welker are basically out of the league due to their reoccurring concussions. Do not know if Monroe had any prior or its his first one, but I'm sure the team isn't rushing into getting him out there. Would like to see a system put in place like the escalating drug suspensions. If you get 1 concussion, a week off, 2-4, two weeks off and so on. These guys that get these and push to get back on the field just to receive another one are not only hurting their own future lives but also their own families. It's terrible to think about.

Anthony Davis retired because of a nasty concussion he sustained at tackle - hope Eugene is okay. Brain injuries are nothing to mess with.

Man, his concussion must've been serious. This is his third game out. I don't really think playing a couple snaps in the first game counts. I hope he's okay.

For some perspective, the Patriots put Stork (their starting center) on temp-IR because he suffered a concussion. That's a minimum of 8 weeks missed. Concussions are no joke.

I think their should be a short term IR, one that is 4 weeks, not the one in place that is 8 weeks, that teams could use for players with concussions.

He hit his head.

You can get a concussion without hitting your head too

Someone asked him a yes or no question and he answered way too emphatically.

I've heard in a game that they have independent medical guys joining the NFL's medical guys to check out these concussions. I feel that has a lot to do with these guys return timelines, as well as the NFL taking a lot more precautions to the injuries.

Kind of like what they have in MLB. I think that would make a lot of sense. It would encourage teams to be patient with concussions and avoid rushing them back. (Yeah, I know there are independent doctors, but still).

Yup. Like every time I come on here. The very looking at the complaining and the negativity causes my brain immediate pain.

I had a concussion years ago when I was younger and didn't even know that that was what had happened to me.  I got it in middle school playing a running and tackling game.  During a tackle my head hit the knee of a friend and man, I was really out of hit but still had to go to class.  I remember everything being foggy and feeling woozy the rest of that day.  Lol!  That feeling stayed with me for a few days afterwards and just think....that was without a helmet.

Hope Monroe is okay cause this type of injury can be career ending!

Man. This must be the worst concussion ever. I heard he's expected to miss this game, too? Geez... Maybe they hit him with a sledgehammer or something.

This is maybe showing signs of an accumulative affect. Could be time to hang it up before another concussion. I would like to see him play, but it's only a game. I don't want to see him hurt is future.

Yep. Ruled out again. He must have gotten his door bell rung pretty dang hard.

Doesn't necessarily have to have gotten a "hard" concussion, the symptoms are probably lingering.
