[News] What You Missed vs. Raiders

18 years of experience back there and that's the best they can do?

Given the restraints of a salary cap and the lack of quality options in the draft, yes, that's apparently the best they could do.

Maybe we could have a better corner... would have cost us something though, most likely in the form of another player.

Maybe we pick Darqueze Dennard, or Ha Ha Clinton Dix, or Calvin Pryor instead of CJ Mosley last draft? Do you think this team would be better off right now with that? Kind of hard to argue they would be.

Ozzie is great at drafting linebackers from Alabama and drafting great lineman. However, he's never been great at picking up good corners/ safeties after Ed Reed - he rarely ever uses a second rd pick or better for these positions (except for Torrey). This pretty much sums it up: Ozzie = Matt Elam

this post will see a lot of red arrows :melt:

When you give any QB 4+ seconds to find the open receiver- guess what, they're going to find an open receiver, which Carr did.  The biggest key to helping your suspect secondary and getting a rush on the opposing QB and they failed to do that to Carr.  We've learned over the past 4-5 years that a 3 man rush doesn't work!

the defender has a right to the ball, but not if it means shoving a receiver backwards 10+ yards upfield, that is illegal contact and you will never be able to argue otherwise. hill HAD the inside, sidestepped, and intentionally got in the receivers path and then shoved him, its illegal contact, stop trying to sugarcoat it with rules that dont even apply.

and as for the 2nd part, you sound like a patriots fan right now, picking apart something and pointing out miniscule details that make it slightly different. i wasnt actually calling our play illegal, i pointed out the irony in our coaching staff crying about the patriots TE lining up at LT and catching a pass, dont kid yourself, the whole "ineligible" wr on the opposite side of the field had very little to do with it, we got outsmarted, our coaches cried about it, then turned around and did it 2 games later.

I still think Hill was going for the ball and put his hands up to defend himself from the receiver running into him, which is legal.

I'm not picking apart miniscule details. Teams have players lined up on the end of the tackle box report as eligible all the time. The Patriots had eligible receivers, lined up outside the tackle box, report as ineligible, which no one else in the NFL ever does. Having a skill player lined up at WR as ineligible is a major difference. There's a reason the league voted to make what the Patriots did illegal, but continued to allow what the Ravens did.

Also, Harbaugh's biggest complaint wasn't that the Patriots lined up in those formations. It was that they quick snapped them, not giving the defense enough time to adjust to their substitutions, so it really doesn't make sense to say that we did the same thing that we complained about the Patriots doing.

Ummm. When  McAlister played he was one of the best corners in the league.   In 2011 Webb was second in pass coverage,  after Revis, but the second ACL injury has hurt his career.  Right now Jimmy Smith is one of the best corners in the league. And people have a lot of hope that Brooks will be a really good safety.

He hasn't had a great safety since Reed,  but there is usually a really good corner on the team.
