[News] Late For Work 9/22: Why Did Ravens Trade For A Cornerback?

73 posts in this topic

Yes the D has issues(don't get me started on Pees), but is it me or was Flacco throwing the ball off his back foot with his shoulders almost parallel to the line of scrimmage A LOT? He certainly wasn't under duress every play like he was in Denver and the ball was either sailing or under thrown several times. He can get away with that sometimes because of his arm strength, but isn't it going to be tough to be consistent throwing that way? The stat line won't show it from this past week, but I'm a little worried if he's making it a habit(besides his awkward happy feet dance around the pocket sometimes).

Let's face it, he's not the most consistent of QBs in the league. It looks like the team is going to need him to carry the load more than ever and I certainly hope he can pull it off this year. Time will tell.

I just don't think some people appreciate how much talent Flacco has, considering this is his 4th OC in the last 7 years...Flacco is fine, and will continue to win us games....We all know 33 points should be enough to win games, and the D didn't play like Ravens....Lots of blown coverage's, bad play calling by our DC, and missed tackles....Today no water breaks for the D...:)

Don't understand the grading system. Crockett was a beast. Don't know why Jimmy Smith wasn't on the very bottom. What a pathetic performance after that big contract.

In my opinion, now that the media is back to hating on us again because of our 0-2 start, watch out NFL. I love watching the Ravens play as the underdogs.

It grades on every single snap that the player takes. So even if they give up a big play or have a big play, that only affects so much. So if Gillmore had 2 touchdowns on 60 snaps, that does not mean the extra 58 snaps were at a + level. He could have missed blocks or failed to get open a couple times. Jimmy Smith had a few + coverages despite giving up more of them and having some penalties.

For a little perspective on starting 0-2....Colts Ravens Seahawks Lions Eagles Giants Saints

I see that and think at least 3 of those teams will be in the post season, the Ravens being one of them

Yea It's seem like Flacco was rushing every throw due to a lack of pass rush. For the defense, pees has to be more aggressive or we will be destroyed every game.

Looking at the schedule again, and looking at from a glass half full prospective, we are 0-2 right, the most realistic outlook here is this, next two games are must wins. I see us winning at home and winning at Pittsburgh, reason being is because everyone doubted us in the playoffs there and i believe that we can pull out a win there with beshard perrimans return. i dont see us losing 4 in a row against the bengals either. We will beat the browns, flacco owns them. Suddenly we are 3-2, things are looking up now. So another west coast trip, we will lose either at san fran or arizona, but i got a feeling its going to be san fran, they will be seeking revenge against us. I have a better feeling in arizona, i think we will win that game, then i dont see us losing to the chargers two years in a row plus we are at home, so we will be 5-3 at the bye, that is the goal here. We can do this, everyone here saw what both sides can do on their best day of football, they just need to put it together. 5-3 is our goal at the bye lets go to work, GO RAVENS!!!!!

Its funny that when the defense plays like garbage and is the direct cause for the loss, flacco still gets blamed

When the offense is 2 of 6 in scoring touchdowns in the red zone, it's the QBs, ie Flacco's, responsibility to do better. So, yes, Flacco gets the blame.

Fun fact: Will Davis was picked the pick before Brandon Williams in the 3rd round of the 2013 draft. I'm glad we got Williams then and I'm optimistic about Davis now.

Quick hit on the headline. Because a 2nd year QB torched the secondary. This might be their (raiders) only win this year. That's why. It needs help when your offense puts up 33 points and you lose.

I want to know if Harbs came down hard on Dean Pees???? I know that we missed tackles and I get it that we missed some coverages and didn't communicate well... That falls on the individuals but when multiple individuals all had the same infractions... Then I think it is (or at least looks like) a preparation and a tactical issue... That is the responsibility of the coaching staff... Pees is responsible for that stuff on the defensive side of the ball and this has happened on numerous occasions now. Where is the accountability for Pees???

Flacco throwing off of his back foot is NOT the answer. Looked really bad. Tackles not holding up 2 games in a row. Floating the ball to the receivers is not helping them catch it! burn it in there Joe- if the drop it that is their own fault. Interceptions are NOT acceptable, plain and simple turnovers lose games. We need to see more trust in the running game, however the tackles look like they are lost. All said and done the Ravens beat themselves in both games. should be 2 wins..instead. Time for the leaders and high paid players to step up! That goes for Joe too.

texans as well. Still considering the rest of our schedule and having to face the NFC west Sunday is pretty much a must win.

Idk how PFF rated Webb the highest DB when it seemed like he was beat the most. Also, what did Hurst do to get such a low grade? He had the task of handling Khalil Mack and I thought he held his own.

Flacco definitely deserves some of the blame.

Our D was awful....ok. Had we won, would people be blaming Flacco for the win? It never fails, Joe gets the blame...forget the offense put up 33 points. Or wk 1...Joe didn't have time to get a 3 step drop.....before her was covered in Broncos....YET, WE WERE ONE CATCH FROM A WIN. This week he kept us in the game.....33 points should = win.

True that anytime you lose...just like when u win....the QB Must get some responsibility.....but for flacco bashes on this site...why not start a " give us RG111....."...or go root for the Steelers.

without reading the article, ill just answer the title..

the ravens traded for a cornerback because they are looking for ABSOLUTELY ANYBODY to replace webb immediately. he was so bad sunday, he looked like jermaine winborn or david pittman out there, i cringe everytime i see the qb look towards his side of the field.

In reality the final outcome of both losses were determined by questionable calls by the officials. In Denver a flag should have been thrown for PI on the game ending interception. Surely the Ravens could've scored a TD given a new set of downs on the goal line.

In Oakland the holding call against Hill that negated his game clinching interception was just as questionable.

Yes, it would be nice to win games by a large enough margin that these type of calls won't affect the outcome but in a league of parity you're not always going to get that. It's just too bad that the officials have so much influence on the final outcome of games and seasons.

The flag throwing has gotten so ridiculous that it has really taken away from the fun of watching.

I been saying that since they let Graham go. How are you going to replace him? Every year they make more holes on this team than they need to. Since the PURGE things have gotten real STRANGE.

Thanks for this fun fact, and good to know...... Gives me a bit more optimism as well, although I have to be honest and say these ACL repairs make me nervous and fearful, but hopefully W Davis will do well for us..... :)

Sorry the grading thing just totally lost any credibility in my book. First, Webb was definitely a problem. On two big plays he totally broke the wrong way in coverage leaving a receiver open. I'm pretty sure one of them went for a TD. It was more than twice I am pretty sure. My other problem is Gillmore had a great game and only graded a .1. None of the defense deserved a positive grade, they were making mistakes all over the place. Webb was getting beat all over the place and on multiple occasions both safeties were out of place or took the wrong line.

Couldn't agree with you more Asmodeus71. The way I see it, either Derek Carr was on fire and could've beat any defense all day long, or we were awful. It's prob. a little of both. I mean, if they played an extra two quarters, discounting fatigue, Oak. prob. would've scored 10 TD's, our defense was that bad. If they knew how bad we were going to be, they could've deactivated their punter and added another player to the roster for the game. What I'm trying to say is our defense doesn't deserve any positive grades or comments after giving 37 points to Oak. Thirty-Seven Points To Oakland!

But the truth of the matter is that the refs have messed the game of football up, half of them can't see when they are right there seeing the play go down and make the wrong call, the NFL has no way of disciplining the refs when they mess up. For if players and coaches can be fined refs should at least be fined also, and seeing that the NFL does not do that, that leads me to thinking they tell them to make bad calls!!!
