[News] Late For Work 9/22: Why Did Ravens Trade For A Cornerback?

73 posts in this topic

The Ravens are winless, but nobody needs to panic just yet, wrote The Baltimore Suns Alexander Pyles. If they're 0-4 after playing the Steelers Oct. 1 on Thursday Night Football, then we can talk.

^^^ That's it right there, these next 2 games are pivotal to the remainder of the season. Given what we have seen these first two games I don't see us being 2 - 2 after Cincy and Pitt and 1 - 3 makes for a rough climb. They definitely have not made things easy for themselves!!!

The odds of beating Cincy at home are better. I don't think we can go to heinz field and beat the Steelers this year. Their offense looks red hot and with Suggs out, it makes it even lopsided.

We can go 0-4 or 1-3.

if ravens want to prove that the first 2 games were bad playing week for defense or offense then they need to play consistency each week both side of the ball for the reminder of the season if they want prove everyone that they are playoff for the rest of the season. the only thing that gets me mad is that we do not jam the WR at line of the scrimmage like seahawks or other good defensive team does becaause we give like 8 to 10 yard cushion which gives opposing recivers to get first down and worn out our defense.

It will be a LONG season if we continue to generate zero pressure on the QB. Watching the Jets last night blitz and get home with just a 4 man rush goes to show how much better your defense looks and plays with a hurried QB. Note to Pees, "No more 3 man rush plays!!!" You have been doing this for years with the same results.

As I posted on another post the 1975 Baltimore Colts were 1-4 after 5 games and made the playoffs that year, they won the first game of the season and then lost the next 4, one of which was to a Patriots team that finished 3-11 that year, ironically we lost to the Raiders which made us 0-2.

It must really stink to be a Raiders fan. I haven't seen anyone, anywhere say, "The Raiders played well. They have a good team this year. Congratulations." Instead, it's all, "The Ravens are falling apart. No way the Ravens should have lost. What's wrong with the Ravens?" So I'm saying it: Oakland--you played a good game on Sunday. Congrats.

14 game season now, make the changes that must be made, and take care of business in the AFCN over the next 3 weeks....Harbs get these boys playing like Ravens, and play within the system, instead them feeling they are better than the system....Handle it son....:)

If we start 2-3, and pull out a W on the west coast, then I think this team will be in an ok spot to rattle off some home wins. 3-4 isn't the worst place to be with a strong home schedule in the second half. The problem is that--all those teams late in the season will be good teams, looking for the same playoff berths we are. Sunday is a must win game.

We are seeing that 'who' we play doesn't matter. We have to simply be good enough team to make the playoffs. Regardless of how difficult or easy our match ups are. Good that we are taking on our divisional teams tho, these next series of games, because that's an incredible opportunity. But even if we were 2-0 we'd still have the same situation we have at 0-2: that we need to be better than the opponent. Period.

Season is not yet tanked after 0-2 start, however I see serious reasons for concern after watching first 2 games.

Our defense will not stop any offense with Pees as coordinator with his bend-but-don't-break game plan, thus we can not leave any of our games to be decided by our defense.

As for Trestman, he said he won't change our offensive identity. Yet we've seen almost no power run;

other than 2-3 good draw run plays our rushing attack has been completely lackluster in general;

no imagination whatsoever on how to use our extremely versatile weapons in Camp, Maxx, Juice;

as soon as Gilmore is double covered everything goes towards SSS;

and don't get me started on the play calling.

Bottom line is, our defense will not win any games for us until Pees changes his approach. At the same time, I'm not sure when Trestman's new offense will be ready to carry this team either. It has not happened in the first 2 weeks and I'm afraid it won't happen in the next 2 either.

Flacco get's blamed as all franchise QB's do when teams lose,, and he knows it comes with the position and the contract....I think the criticism, was not being able to put the Raiders away, making TD's and not settling for FG's, and he admits that.....

We should be trading for a LT.........given our current one can't get on the field more than 50% of the time. And Hurst is definitely a backup now thrust into a starter job.

It does suck to be a Raiders fan, no one takes them very seriously, although, no one can accuse them of being bandwaggoners :D However (and I did say so), Raiders played to earn the win. Derek Carr was on fire, he releases the ball real quick, adding to why he wasn't sacked and he has a pair of solid receivers that were clutch. Despite the fact that Ravens expected them to play without their starting safeties, it was rather difficult to connect with our receivers, because Raiders had good coverage. I don't think Ravens are falling apart. There were aspects of the game that were positive for us. Raiders simply outplayed us. They have drafted well the last two years and whoever's in charge has been making a change to the better.

I see no reason why we shouldn't beat Cinci. And Pittsburgh. Let's go Ravens!

Although we are favored by 1 1/2 over Cinci, Marvin Lewis, like Jack Del Rio is a cagey guy who comes prepared. Cincy defense will press Steve Smith with cover 2. Gilmore and Aiken will need to deliver.

Home field should be enough, Webb better play like its about over for him, I think finally, Harbaugh has had enough of his games. Same goes for Pees poor defensive alignments. Harbaugh lets people dig their own holes and those two have dug deep.

need to offer a 2nd or 3rd pick for a legitimate pass rusher from a team that may be willing to part ways with one. secondary will struggle even more without a pass rush and dummervil the d-line, lb's will suffer not having someone drawing double teams or generating a pass rush.

Don't see how Webb graded as our best defensive player last week. If so, that's a pretty sad reflection on the whole defense.

I agree with the comments about...just because the Raiders haven't been a good team in previous years has no bearing on the team they are this year. They got some great players and Del Rio which will help them considerbly. it will be interesting to see them win a bunch more games. And good for our morale too :) im not saying it excuses the way our defense played...but it does give an added perspective that we weren't 'as bad' as the comparison initially that this would be an easy match up. Perhaps it was not an easy match up AT ALL, however..,we still have to be the better team. This would just mean we did better than it looks on paper.

No team is going to trade a legit pass rusher after week 2, and we won't give up such a high pick for a stop gap, considering we were able to get Carl Davis talent in the 3rd...Best we could do is what we did, signing a player such as Babin.....There is no quick fix for a young D-Line, they just need to play, and learn something every week, and get better as we go along....JMO.....

Seriously people, taking shots at Webb is just crazy, a J.Smith gave up the long bomb to Cooper, and drew a 15 yard penalty, as well as other PI calls....I would just say collectively as a unit, they did not play their best game....

The Defense has done it's job putting this team in a position to win going back against the pats a very very very bad pass INT ended the game! Broncos two INTs back to back! The Raiders "FINALLY" beat the Ravens is all that happened Sunday! Everyone is getting benched for bad play except Joe instead Torrey got released cause everyone blamed him for a pass that should not been thrown in the first place! One or two more INTs Joe gotta get pulled I said it red me up I'm not scared to say it!
