Ray on the Sidelines?

61 posts in this topic

Can we get Ray Lewis to work the Ravens bench during our next game against the Bengals?  I know if he were there, he would fire up our team.  No doubt, his presence would be like having a 12th man on the field.

No. If this team needs him on the sidelines and he's not coaching, they don't deserve to win. The only time I might accept this is in a home playoff game and nothing under AFCCG.

People need to stop acting like Ray Lewis is the holy ghost. We had losing seasons when he was a player too.

And we haven't had a losing season since he left. Coincidence? :P

People need to stop trying to diminish all that Ray Lewis has done and meant to the Ravens organization, the city of Baltimore and abroad as well as to we Ravens fans for years just because he is retired now!

Ray Lewis will always mean alot to the fans, Ravens organization and more but it's get quite tiresome to hear oh we need Ray Lewis to bring that leadership role back to our team, we need Ray Lewis to be our linebacker coach, we need Ray Lewis to be our defensive coordinator and etc. Man let that man enjoy his retirement and realize the guy most likely is never coming back to The Ravens organization.

doubt it was his fault though.

the defenses he lead where pretty darn good.

the offenses on the other hand....

All can appreciate what Ray meant to this team, but he has retired and that page is turned. And while the present squad can draw on that legacy for inspiration, they need to man up and play with intensity and passion by their own admonition., not Ray's.

Every other team in the league manages to find ways to win without Ray Lewis. We managed it fine last year. But somehow we need him on the sidelines. Come on.

I think motivational stuff will get you pumped for the game, but once kickoff happens that stuff fades away and its just football. And when it comes to just football, we simply haven't been that good and having Ray around won't help.

Ray was on some defenses that got shredded just like every HOF player, he needs to stay retired and enjoy life.

Nope but the team had losing seasons with and without him, the aura of lewis is bigger than the player. I don't idolize sports figures and I believe the sum of a team is greater than a single man.

Make no mistake, Ray was great. Just some of the things he could do. It was like having the equivalent of Manning or Brady playing on defense.

That said, I totally get your point.

This.  People thing players randomly just get better because Ray gave a speech.  Some defensive players over the years didn't get hype (see McAlister, Rolle).  What Ray did was make sure people knew their assignments and where they were supposed to be, as well as calling defensive audibles.  He can't do that from the sidelines unless he's a coach.  He didn't magically raise someone's skill set like a video game cheat code

Exactly. Him or Ed Reed can't make a person be instinctive and know where to be based off of an ever evolving play.
