[News] Steve Smith Sr. Takes Over, But It's Not Enough

51 posts in this topic

Going to one WR over and over and over is not the answer, and quite frankly, Flacco does it too much as it is. If we cannot effectively get other targets, such as Camp, and Marlon, and even Maxx Williams more involved, then we're simply not going to win. Just the same as we (obviously) need to get Taliaferro more involved in the rushing game, we need to get the younger guys far more involved in the passing game, especially in the red zone. Not going to big targets like Waller or Brown when we're in scoring range, simply doesn't make sense. What is the point of throwing constantly to the shortest WR on our roster, when we have these tall targets where you can put the ball up where (conceivably) "only they can get it"? Flacco also needs to stop sailing passes and over/underthrowing so often. Yes, he needs improved pass protection, but he still underthrew or straight out missed wide open guys yesterday, and Week 1.

Flacco had a good day passing, imo. However, he does tend to sail balls or loft them instead of more line-driving them, which would have been a TD at the end of the game. That being said, Steve Smith is doing everything he can and has been largely successful over the last year at helping this team. I know a lot of people here are choosing not to blame Smith for those two, potential, game changing plays at the end of our 2 games, this year, and rightfully so. I just want to take a second here to point out that he is our best player right now. That, though, does scare me right now. I'm wondering how many game are we going to lose this year, because we don't have enough of those great players on our team? But, getting more receivers involved, as it is possible, should help. Gillmore had a terrific day catching and scoring TD's. I believe M. Brown needs to get more involved and Maxx, too. We've got some good, young talent in this receiving group. I'd like to see Joe spread the ball around a little more, too. I think we'd all like that. We can beat Cincy. I think we have 10 points worth of a home-field adv. If we can play any defense, what-so-ever, we should be tough at home. We'll see, nothing is for certain with this Ravens team!

Flacco had a great day. The only problem is he left points on the board when we needed everything we could get because our D played like hot garbage. Some might think I'm asking Joe to play a perfect game. I am not. I'm begging Joe to use proper technique all the time, so that we stand a better chance of winning.

The used little Steve Smith instead of  Darren Waller in the Red Zone also.

I think Waller had a hard time separating himself from defenders. He needs to grow fast

Torrey was always clutch, especially against the Squeelers.. and the Pats for that matter... Torrey where are you? Why'd you have to go? Oh yeah, Ozzie didn't want to keep you because he thought a 36 year old receiver and some no name receivers would be fine. We all know Flacco needs a deep threat to perform better. Wait till we match up with better secondaries down the road, we will have no game whatsoever...

What did Torrey do last year? SSS rocked kicked butt in the regular season and rocked it during the playoffs.

Everyone's using the "deep threat" line... our receivers if they get their act together can stretch the field, and yes the 36 year old can as well.  Offence had enough yardage to win the game yesterday... our D needed to step up.

"Steve's going to be Steve every week. That's nothing new. The rest of us just have to do our part."

^ This, this and more of this!

It sucks that Steve Smith can put in that kind of game and we still lose. Whether it's lack of faith in the other receivers on the roster or lack of skill, we can't keep throwing at SSS 16 times in a game. Somethings got to give.

Jeesh! That's exactly the problem!

Where was Camp?? Where was Maxx?? Where was Juice?? We have those amazing versatile weapons and Flacco is still tossing every other pass towards SSS, who every defensive player knows is our offenses biggest threat and go-to guy. What you think is going to happen??

There's another game and a win at home and a victory in Pitt and suddenly they're in the pack. I don't predict a win against a hot Bengals team, but I do know Harbaugh will have his team running on nitrous and a supercharger this weekend. He'll sit down with his OC and DC and get things hammered out. John doesn't like losing and he's not averse to changing up his coaching staff on the fly if he has to.

The game kind of confirms what I have observed about the Ravens. They play to the level of their competition and make mediocre QB's look like HOFers. I rarely bet on football games but after watching this game, its clear that , whoever plays the Raiders, will beat them by a lot this Sunday. Also, with Perriman--he's been out for 8 weeks. In pro-football that a long time. My guess is that he has a serious injury. However, you are drinking the cool-aid if you believe that he will make a huge impact this year. We shall see.

ozzie thinks that we keep buying cheap players and we're going to make superstars out of them all the time, now it's catching up with us.

D.Waller 6'6, C.Gillmore 6'6, M.Brown 6'5, M.Williams 6'4 and K.Aiken 6'2 and we're throwing lobs to a 5'9 36yr old(Thanks Marc). Now before you bash me, i know Steve Smith Sr still has it and is our best receiver but a lob pass C'Mon Man.

Will be really nice when we have SSS on one side with perriman on the other with Crockett going up the seam. Keep juice in the back feild to buy joe some extra time. This way defenders won't know that were throwing to SSS nearly every play. Where are all the double tight end sets and screens that we were supposedly going to utilize ? I didn't get to watch the game , were there any screens this time at all?

I also have no freaking clue why they're not utilizing camp over the middle. You see New England doing it all day long with Edelman , first down after first down. Just makes zero sense to me. We are so much better than we've been playing.

Where is Perriman? I admit to not checking in everyday, but I don't even see any updates on him.

Only update is that Perriman is running again
