2016 WR Prospect Thread

Love Coleman. Don't know if he's the best, but he's been my favorite WR to watch this year.

Here to give where credit is due in putting me on Coleman. I'm not entirely caught up on his 2015 contests, but he's impressed in the ones I've observed. In the Texas Tech game alone, he beat the press against the Nickel off the snap before accelerating down the field and hauling in the long throw, and then he split the Tampa 2 perfectly for the score all in the first quarter. Steve Smith Sr. like in his shiftiness in the open field. There is so much to like about him. There were several games wherein he put forth a porous amount of an effort into blocking in the running game or selling out on when he wasn't the intended target. But I was blown away by his tape against Rice. The talent level is difficult to deny.

I def. see why Coleman is hyped up the way he is. I need to watch more of him and my favorite WR is Doctson as of now. The only problem I have now is that he seems to sometimes give up on plays and refuses to finish his blocks. Other than that I def. see why he's hyped up. I just need to watch more film on him.

There are definitely parts of his game that need to be polished, like you said blocking - not exactly a strength of his. I've also heard some criticize his route running, but I'm not sure if that's him or the system to be fair.

I've also heard some players say he's "mean", which is good. Shorter WR with attitude, now who does that remind me of?.... The talent is undeniable. He can instantly contribute in the NFL as a lethal deep threat, and develop into something bigger, assuming he puts the work in.

It can definitely be an infuriating aspect of his game. There was a play against Rice where he literally stood backwards facing the sideline from pre-snap until the whistle. That won't fly with the coaches in the pros. That being said, the others wideouts also displayed the same tendency when the play went away from their side, so I assume that it was a permitted practice, perhaps to conserve their energy. The fact that Coleman has a mean streak helps to quell the concerns and he's shown that he can be effective when putting in the effort, i.e. his block against West Virginia last season. While I'm on the subject, I also see his edgy demeanor as a plus, especially considering his size. The route running could use some polish, but that's the case for most college WRs. Agreed on the latter for sure.

Well our luck hasn't worked out with model citizens at WR. Maybe a WR with some baggage might be the draft pick we need.

Josh Doctson out for the year with wrist injury.

So he's actually not out for the season. Apparently reporters misinterpreted what Gary Patterson said.

he'll fall to our 2nd round pick, we take him, his wrist spontaneously combusts in the offseason and he posts uplifting tweets and talks about becoming the first one handed wr but it never pans out.

calling it now

FWIW walterfootball has us taking doctson with our second pick and Corey Coleman going right in front of us. We also get Bosa at 6.

Is it just me or do their mocks actually seem legit this year? Seems like in the past they were always laughable

We definitely need to get JPP in FA, too. Rebuild the team with single-limbed players. We already have one-legged guy on WR depth chart.

more often than not the actual draft is laughable.

2 if you count campanaro, and if steve smith took one more step on his left foot before going down we might actually have 3.

no, im looking at it now, this is REALLY laughable.

the draft always has a ton of plot twists, and walter football seems to try to predict them but they tend to be way off base when they do so, and this is an extreme case of that.

Regarding this last part, it is what they are coached to do. I know it seems stupid, but these spread offense teams sometimes run close to 100 plays a game and if the plays are not in their direction they often aren't even expected to give an effort. It seems to work for them. It definitely makes for a difficult evaluation in some areas, but it's hard to watch a player like Coleman and not be impressed.

This is probably exactly what will happen if we take him. If we don't though, he will become a superstar and everyone will be wondering why we didn't pick another WR

regarding the walterfootball mock though, it has us taking bosa at 6th and doctson at 37th, with both hargreaves and ramsey gone by our first pick and no db anywhere near doctsons talent level at 37th...

IF our draft turned out that amazing, well over half of our fanbase would call for ozzies head for not drafting a cb. thats the amazing part to me lol

Yep, yep. I alluded to it in the follow up but the other receivers definitely followed the same mantra and I also figured it was to conserve energy. Coleman has the mean streak to be effective as a blocker, and even if it turns out to be an issue, he certainly makes up for it otherwise.

They've been legit for a while. They predicted we'd take Perriman months before the draft and didn't change it once. Course no one can really predict drafts. Edited by Cillmatic

now that you mention it... i completely remember that, and i scoffed at it every single time, wondering when the hell they were gonna get their acts together and change it...

I scoffed at it because I didn't like the pick, I was afraid but simultaneously knew we might draft him.

i thought there was no chance, my thought process was; "ozzie hasnt drafted a first round wr since mark clayton in 05, there is no freaking way that the first one he takes in 10 years is gonna be perriman, no chance"...

i was 100% positive the pick was either gonna be malcom brown or byron jones, i even thought dorsett and preston smith had a solid chance, but perriman? not happening...

"the baltimore ravens select.... bresha-" *turns off tv*

and yes that is literally what i did

once Shane Ray got picked I thought we might take Byron jones or even trade out of the first...I think biscotti really wanted Ray ...at least before that "incident"

Boyd is probably the safest pick at WR (on the field). At worst, I see him as a solid #2, and at best I see Keenan Allen.
