2016 WR Prospect Thread

925 posts in this topic

It is bound to happen as it does every year so why not start this specific position talk early...

Quick thoughts on the future...Steve Smith retiring leaves us with Breshad Perriman, Kamar Aiken, Marlon Brown, Darren Waller and Michael Campanaro...not the most inspiring at this juncture, but it is only week two so hopefully this discussion changes by the end of the year..

Given our need for other positions too (CB, Rush, etc.) I wanted to open this up to WR prospects i  general not just first rounders as that may not be when it occurs and I would like to know of who to keep an eye out for as the season progresses.

I don't know a ton quite yet but of some videos I have watched my thoughts:

Laquan Treadwell--really, really like him, looked great in the 'Bama game, not heavily used but when he was he fought for the ball, won the battles and brings a physicality intensity to the O much like a Dez Bryant or our soon to be retired Steve Smith. Plays like a raven to me but we would need our season to go down the drain to have a shot at him imo.

Tyler Boyd--Reminds me a lot of Keenan Allen, in that he does everything in college and but not sure I see huge explosion and would not be surprised if he dropped in a similar fashion. Like him as he has produced though consistently.

Michael Thomas--I am a big fan, love his size/physicality and hands. Reminds me of a Boldin type but may be more like a Crabtree in the end...I think we need a possession guy once Smith is gone and he may fit in nicely and I don't seem him going in round 1

Travin Dural--Love how LSU and Cam Cameron develop players for the NFL, he seems to have everything you look for and looks to be a continual riser all year.

Others or added thoughts as I have not seen a ton of them or know who to watch for

Corey Robinson is an intriguing guy out of Notre Dame, not sure if he'll declare.

6' 5" with what seems to be decent enough hands, and should run around 4.5 at the combine.

I think Josh Doctson could be a great pickup in the second round. He's not an amazing athlete, but he's got amazing hands, and he's a really good route runner. He's like Jordan Matthews.

Hoping for Boyd big time, guy has amazing hands. btw, Allen only fell because of an injury, guy has more than lived up to the first round status he got before the knee injury, he had 15 receptions against the lions this year already.

Malcolm Mitchell from UGA, good mid to late round guy, high character and reliable.

The Higgins kid from Colorado state is intriguing, needs to put on weight but has produced big time in his career there.

Marquez North from Tennessee is a personal favorite

Quinshad Davis from UNC is another guy having a great season so far, great size and solid speed combination

travin dural is without question my favorite wr in this draft. something about this kid looks really special. i cant really put my finger on it either, he just passes the eye test with flying colors and looks to be an immediate contributor on any team

i liked robinson at first for these reasons, but he looks like he plays really slow, he has a ton of wasted motion when he runs, he flails a lot, and he is very long and lanky and reckless with his body, i just feel like he is an injury waiting to happen in the NFL and he plays very sloppy, if people thought perriman was a project i feel like robinson is 10x as raw. i still like him, but he was once my favorite prospect and after watching some more on him i have soured quite a bit.

He really impresses me..I am not sure where he will go on draft day but he has such a good combination of size/speed and has proven big play ability. His YPC is pretty impressive being in the 20+ range...Also he seems like one of the few speedsters/deep threats with the ability to sink his hips, run every/all routes, and catch fluidly with his hands. One of my favourite prospects this year and he could be something very special.

i should correct myself and say my 2nd favorite after treadwell lol, but that should go without saying. i really like dural though and for all those reasons, he may be the most fluid athlete and sharpest route runner in this class, he reminds me of victor cruz but with much better measurables. i feel boyd and dural are quite similar, similar measurables, both are well rounded, but boyd is the guy who is more physical with defenders and can contest balls better, while i think dural is the better route runner. dural seems like the type of wr this offense could use.

I'm late here but I love what I've seen from Travin Dural. He's fast and tall but needs to add some weight. Still, I think highly of him. I'd love to get him here and I agree with you Dubs. He's right up there with Boyd and Treadwell for me atm.

I'm really high on this kid for the Ravens.

i love his separation and fluidness.

granted he doesnt have the greatest ball skills and he isnt gonna be beating richard sherman on jump balls, but i love the kids ability to get open. i think he has the best separation skills in this years draft and it would be a breath of fresh air to have joe throwing to open receivers rather than throwing 50/50 balls because you have big guys who cant separate.

I'm actually thinking Treadwell won't go as high as you all are thinking. I predict him having average combine numbers; teams might question his ability to separate as a pro (like Jordan Matthews or Allen Robinson, Jaelen Strong). Still a first rounder, but not a top-10 pick. Boyd is a top-10 pick.

Also thought Robinson looks really awkward running and catching, as many big men do. He seems like a project, and we've already got one of those in Waller.

tbh I don't anticipate Kamar being back so we'll need a #3 along with a #2 WR.

1.Boyd

2.Perriman

3.Waller/Givens/Camp

Perfect.

I thought I saw Kamar is a RFA, so he's likely back on the cheap

Yes it is, I don't think Perriman should be below Boyd but then again we haven't seen him play yet.

Still doesn't inspire faith or deter my desire for a top receiver

Definitely. He's good as a #3 or #4, but not a starter. Really would like to spend an early pick on WR this year again.

Joe should make his pay cut be conditional on the Ravens drafting a receiver

If you go off of college performance and skill it's no contest. Boyd's a much better prospect than Perriman was.

LOL! That would be a great idea.

I can imagine the talks would sound like,

"Joe, we need you to take a pay cut."

"Why? So you can sign some more defensive players? How about we surround me with some offensive talent, specifically some receivers. Then I'll take a pay cut. In fact, make my money go there."

"What is this thing you call offensive talent at receiver...?"
