[News] Late For Work 9/21: Terrell Suggs Not Retiring, But Could Play Elsewhere

115 posts in this topic

I miss the "in your face , jam receivers, here we come defenses" instead we get "bend don't break, screen zones, let's be safe defenses".......this is the Baltimore Ravens...BRING BACK THE HAMMER! That's all I got to say about that. GO RAVENS!

No matter what happens with Suggs, I think we need to draft a passrusher next year. As for this game I still don't get why we couldn't get Babin ready. I mean it can't be that big of a problem to add some plays for him in the gameplan.

Real nice for Suggs to say he would play elsewhere. Anyone paying attention saw him pout and cry when Oz traded his buddy NGata. Then he came into camp fat and lazy. And then he got hurt in the first game of the season. Thanks for showing up Terrell

I have had enough with this Dean Pees guy, His defensive scheme is too soft, especially corners playing 10 yards off the ball on 3rd and 3's. FIRE Pees and Bring in a guy like Jim Schwartz

Time to cut the umbilical cord from Suggs then. Just a 'hunch' observation: that players were too dependabt on his A-personality to up their own game. Meaning we were only as good as Suggs was good and only bad as Suggs was absent? If so that's just co-dependency on one player to carry the spirit of the defense...not good. And now we see why. So, him possibly leaving is not a 'bad thing' imo...it means...move on other players on defense. Be your own leaders.

It's a real drag also thinking about the possible reality of losing Suggs next year. Yes, I understand the reasons, but I just can't allow the mental visual of Suggs in another uniform. Suggs has been loyal to the Ravens and re-structured his contract so I hope it works out for him to wrap up his career as a Raven.

I don't know what team Cincinnati played a week ago, I didn't see the highlights, but the reason that we didn't get any sacks on Carr wasn't necessarily a major defense issue as much as the guy gets rid of the ball faster than most QBs. His line held solid and the catches by Cooper and Crabtree especially were clutch. Honestly, Ravens lost last night to a team that played solid, not to a loser team like everyone expected.

I wouldn't be so doom and gloom about things anyway. We acquired Babin, who didn't dress up last night, but will be there for pass rush for other games. I really liked what I saw from Lardarius Webb, those tackles looked like they hurt! And his locker room reaction to media shows he's got the fight in him. Towards the end of the game, in the final seconds, I missed a former WR - Jacoby Jones for a miracle return and then Perriman to be able to get separation for the Hail Mary that ultimately didn't work. Offense needs to step up some, but there were positive things to look at. Like the yardage on Steve Smith Sr and Aiken's ability to redeem himself after the fumble with some clutch catches, and Crockett Gilmore, who I had on the trading block start of yesterday and deleted the request before even the second touchdown, because what he did there was impressive.

Oh, and one more thing. Ravens are perfectly able to lose to a team with a losing record and the next week beat out a Super Bowl contender, so as long as they keep their heads up, I wouldn't be too worried. Win all of the home games, win some away games and we have a good chance.

He actually didn't say that... LaCanfora did.

He will be here in 2016.

And while I'm calling out Suggs lets talk about how SSS cost us the 2nd game in a row with poor play. I thought he was going to leave it all out on the field this year? He had a chance to drag his feet for the TD yesterday and instead chose not to sacrifice his body. I expected more from Steve this year. 2 weeks in a row he cost us the game.

The players we have are not ready to step in for Suggs, none of them are a 3 down force like he is right now, so IMO no brainer he is on this team next year, unless we are going through a rebuilding process, which we don't do....JMO....Upshaw obviously can play the run, but he isn't going to come close to replacing Sugg's pass rushing ability, and teams aren't going to double team him, they are now going to focus on only having to worry about Doom....as of now....

Timmy Jernigan, your attempt to "man-up" to take responsibility came up a little short. Your quote is inaccurate that your hit on the QB was a LITTLE late, your hit was a WHOLE LOT late. That big penalty was not a result of momentum or a bang, bang play. The lateness was clear as a bell, inexcusable and avoidable. Hoping for a whole lot better self control from you in the future.

The loss of Suggs was not significant because "He didn't have a sack against the Broncos and did virtually nothing in the first game" -- Ron Fritz (Sun)

Is this really a sportswriter making this statement? Wow. I thought it was only fans who were mesmerized by stats and unable to see the impact a player has beyond his numbers. I'm not even going to go into how a player can affect a team without getting a sack. I think most of you have a better handle on it that this guy.

Oh and don't go all tragic on Sizzle. He never said he wanted to leave, in fact we know he wants to retire a Raven. All he is saying is that he is determined to play, no matter what and that he isn't retiring just yet. As long as Ravens want him, he'll be here. After all, he restructured his contract, taking less money, only to help Ravens set a winning roster. Who does that? Only people loyal to a team.

I really don't play the blame game BUT what in the world is the NFL thinking giving the Ravens this type of schedule ??? Has to be the hardest schedule in the history of schedules. Other then that Joe has to make that throw to Smith has to. Joe stop lofting passes that's a bad habit in this league.

Pees needs to step up, the defense is to predictable, and stop with the 3 man rush on passing downs....

Whether or not the Ravens will target young pass rushers next year doesn't automatically mean they are going to toss Suggs aside. To think we'll draft a rookie to take his place day one is serious wishful thinking.

As I always, I hate talking about our off season strategy before the season is over. Yeah, yeah - I know many of you think it is, but I'm not going there.

Right now, all I know is they come home finally this Sunday and they better play to their fullest on all sides of the ball when folks get to M&T Bank. No one wants to deal with 3 straight losses to open the season.

I hope you are right, I really do but that still doesnt excuse him for coming into camp out of shape at 32 with Denver in Denver as our first game.

There'll be Babin. If he can keep up to his pass-rushing reputation, then they'll have to account for him too and it will free up the other pass rusher. So either him or Doom will be getting through. No one to replace Suggs in how versatile and play-smart he is, but Babin is help.

When the flag was thrown, I'm thinking ... oh, please don't have this be one of those ridiculous bang-bang plays where a defender has zero chance of stopping his momentum. Then I saw the replay. I can't remember when I've seen a later hit than that. If it wasn't 5 steps late, it was at least 4.

WNC-Raven: Where in this article was there a quote saying that Suggs said he would play elsewhere?

What am I missing here? The tweet from Jason is as follows "Terrell Suggs not even considering retirement. Will begin rehab soon and will play in '16 whether for Ravens or elsewhere (has $4.5M salary)"

By your logic Suggs also didnt say that he is not even considering retirement. If that is the case then why is this info even relevant, why is it being used as the headline for the LFW article?

"But can you really put all of Sunday's issues on one man?" Yes you can. His name is Dean Pees.

Exacty, but having Suggs out definitely hurt.  This morning on the radio Mills brought up the fact that the game after Ray went down in 2012 the defense got killed by a Houston offense.  But they were able to put things together and play better after that game.  With a home game this week I think we will see a better defense but Pees needs to do something or his head will be on the chopping block at the end of the season.

No where in this article did it state Suggs actually said he would play elsewhere, only LaCanfora saying that. Until you hear it out of Suggs mouth, it is only rumor. Suggs has repeatedly stated he has no interest in playing for another team and would like to finish his career here. No guarantees of course and I could be wrong. but I personally believe he will be back with the Ravens next year.

How many times do I have to watch us march down the field and kick a field goal instead of scoring a game sealing touchdown, just to watch an inferior opponent walk all over our defense for the win. I'd almost rather us be behind with the ball at the end of a game than ahead by less than 7 and our opponent having the ball.
