[News] Defense Falters In First Test Without Terrell Suggs

41 posts in this topic

Harbs and his typical "we got to get better" yet they got worse. Why was Jimmy and Webb have to play 10 yards off all day? Why can't we pressure and QB? Zero pass rush

Lets not kid ourselves here. This problem existed with Suggs. We coughed up 35 points to NE in Jan, 19 to Denver, and 37 to Oakland. Thats 91 points in the last 3 games, or a 30 point average. Its scheme related. That Rush 3,Swiss Cheese Zone Defense is the problem. It was a problem with Mattison. We had it fixed with Pagano, but its still here, as we were beaten like a drum by Carr, as we were by Brady. Next week, its AJ Green and Red. Gonna be a long season.

The defense played on its heels the entire game. No rush, no coverage, unless you count playing 10 yards off the line as coverage. For crap sake, they played a zone defense with Oakland on the 10 yard line. How stupid is that? No one near the receivers to defend anything. While the defense is to blame for this awful showing, the Defensive Coordinator should be fired. His scheme is terrible. His lack of aggression is not Ravens football.

It's sad we won't be able to send Steve Smith and perhaps Suggs out with a ring this year. Hell the way we are playing we will be looking at a top 10 pick next year. I have no faith in our coordinators and I don't know if it was just me or did anyone else notice Flacco lacked the touch on his deep throws. We need to make a move and add a playmaker to this team because we are lacking on both sides of the ball.

Why did we sign Babin and not play him, not saying that's the answer but Waller didn't need to be active. I was waiting for the win so I could say so what we beat the raiders, let's beat the teams that matter, Damn the raiders mattered... Bah humbug.

Dean Pees needs to be fired...and he can take Lardarius Webb with him as well. I seen someone post that Pees is ruining our reputation on defense & they are correct

First and foremost, I want us to win a lot of games and make the postseason. Having said that, if we can't make the postseason, I want to go full Machiavellian and have a defense so bad Pees gets fired.

Crockett was a beast, Webb was a bum some actives made no plays, some inactives made no sense. The Raiders were who we didn't think they were. Bottom of the AFC north and top of the What the heck?-ranks

Suggs absence is a convenient excuse for a poor showing by an unrested team that spent a week in a hotel prior to playing a professional nfl football game yesterday. Unlike many, I don't think Suggs absence was the reason for the defensive showing yesterday. Scheduling and lack of prep time during the week in a San Jose hotel may have more to do with the way they played. Blaming Suggs loss may be popular but not accurate in my mind. The defense looked pooped and so did the coaches. Next time fly back and forth instead of checking the team into some hotel for week during the season. Ever stay in a hotel for a week? How did you feel? Suggs absence is just too simplistic an excuse.

At some point, when the 3 man pass rush fails to do anything and the overloaded secondary still gets shredded, its time to adjust. No sacks, no QB pressures to speak of. Make an adjustment! The D looked gassed by the 2nd quarter. This scheme looked like a "Milquetoast Mathis" at its best.

Joe is just going to score enough points to what this defense gives up. Ravens finished 7-9 the last time they play theses division. Next year will be easier.Sorry that's the facts. This is the Bengals year.

No one is kidding anyone. Losing to Peyton or Brady with a few banged up guys is one thing, it sucks! Allowing the Raiders to score 37 is a PROBLEM! The last time the Raiders scored more than 30 points was 2 years ago against the Chiefs and that only happened because the Chiefs were up by a million and the starters were all resting for most of the second half. (final score 56-31 Chiefs)

The secondary was not good in Denver, that was Suggs getting doubled team allowing others too attack. This season is going to suck.

These losses are part of the Torrey Smith curse. Ozzie should've never let him go- like I said in the beginning of the year, we will not make the playoffs. Ozzie didn't do anything to address a bad secondary (Corners) and basically let all the speed we had at receiver walk away to other teams (Jones and Torrey). Thanks, Ozzie- we suck!

Yes I think letting Torrey and J Jones go was a mistake too, I was angry when I first read that (off season) it's like logic got turned upside down. Ngata too but in different context. And players saying Suggs out had this huge impact...wait a minute..,he's one player, one guy...you can't use the excuse of losses on one person missing. You ALL are professionals so one gone means still plenty of talent...you'd think?

Webb and Arrington were just too small to handle those tall WR of Oak,we need to get bigger at CB, 2 5'10 guys covering 6'2/ 6'4 guys got picked on all day. we really could've used Melvin and Babin in that game

The ball game in Oakland was simply disgusting. My only hope is that the team uses this as motivation to get better and give Cincinatti hell this Sunday

There is nothing able to fix on this defense but to get new players. Its slow, old, injury prone, leaderless, clueless coaches, and not very football smart. I swear some of these guys are only on this team because the their off field contributions and because the Ozz needs to self examine is ways and personnel but go ahead with hard headed ways and the Ravens have a new coach three years from now.

Game 1 - no offense

Game 2 - no defense

Game 3 - who knows

I love my Ravens but yesterday was just rotten. I really can not see good things for this team unless they fix a lot of things in a very short time.

On a good note the offense was rolling.

Penalties were a back breaker.

Hope for better things and pray we win a game soon.

Go Ravens.

The Ravens will come home STAND TALL and do what they do best and that's "Play like a Raven"! Take more that a 0-2 start to get me rattled over here!

This notion of not "overpaying" verterans or making big free agent signings, being dedicated to rebuilding through the draft, is our own undoing. We let all our good players just walk away because they were "too expensive". The problem is that we end up picking 20-something in the draft every year and now were stuck with all the middle of the pack mediocre picks. If youre going to suck this year, do it right like the colts did to get andrew luck, throw this one away and get a top pick. Being realistic, we are obviously not a contender this year, so dont get stuck in the middle of the pack again. SMH
