[News] Ravens Have To 'Regroup' After First 0-2 Start Under John Harbaugh

47 posts in this topic

Lots of issues. Does the Baltimore media have the nerve to ask Flacco about the bad throws? Flacco personally left two touchdowns on the board yesterday. He under threw the rookie down the sideline on what should have been a touchdown. He then threw a bad pass to a wide open Steve Smith with the game on the line which caused b Baltimore to have to settle for a field goal. He had a third bad pass to a wide open Aiken that would've cost them a touchdown, but the Ravens scored the touchdown anyway. Flacco had a great day, but he shares some blame in this loss.

I don't know about the defense at all. Defense is also about emotion-especially in Baltimore. They don't have any emotion without Suggs out there. He was the last link to Ray. Mosley and Smith play like zombies. They're good, but they're not inspiring. The only one who brings energy is Will Hill. There's no 'fire' on the D, and you can't play D like you play offense. It just doesn't work.

Hardest schedule EVER. @denver @oakland Cincy @pitt short week browns @9ers @ cards chargers. REALLY ! first 2 out west then 3 tough AFC north bloodbaths then back out west and then come home to a good charger team. UNREAL ! Really my best scenario will be 4 and 4 and that means they have to go 6 - 2 in the second half just to be in the conversation for a wild card. Don't think they can do it that Raider game loss was huge.

Schedule is predetermined years in advance for the most part. Its not a valid excuse.

Yep, Next year its NFC East and AFC East. Both times the Ravens won the SB it was NFC East and AFC West and the will not happen until 2024..

The book is out on Forsett, Taliaferro is not at full strength, needless to say still no Perriman, and why haven't they thrown to Campanero? Pees has some explaining to do. Hope Melvin gets better soon and takes over for Webb, maybe he'll be more aggressive to say to the least. I believe that they will turn it around.

True but not the home games and away games for that season. Not making excuses just stating facts. That got dealt a bad hand as far as the schedule goes.

Suggs is gone, the team needs to get over it and play like they did vs Denver. Pees is messing up again, need to consider another DC, we need to find our identity b/c I don't know what we do good or bad.

"Regroup"? That's putting it mildly. Pees is a bad DC, I've never been a fan of his "bend, don't break" philosophy. Puts us in too many bad situations. We had 2 14-piont leads against NE last year and blew both of them. This is a recurring story. The days of a dominant defense that creates chaos and turnovers left with Pagano, unfortuantely. We have the talent, the scheme is a huge issue. I hate to say it, but you see NE put a bunch of guys out there every season, they let "superstars" like Revis go, and they don't miss a beat. Why are we living in the past, saying that losing Reed, Ray, and Suggs are losses we cannot overcome? Coaching and scheme win ball games. Preparing for your opponent and everyone doing their job, especially the coaches, win ball games. IMO, Pees needs to go. Everyone was lauding this defense after week 1 against Denver. Denver couldn't get out of their own way until the 2nd half against KC. If they were playing like they did in that second half for the entire game against us in week 1, they would have crushed us.

On the offensive side of the ball, what the heck is going on with Joe? Poor decision making, bad throws (underthrowing/overthrowing)...he just looks out of sync. No way he should have missed Steve OR Aiken, who were both WIDE OPEN. This team looks confused and lack luster. And what the hell is Tressman thinking throwing TO THE SIDELINES with 2 minutes and change left when we were grinding it out, milking the clock, they have one timeout remaining and we could either take time off the clock or get them to spend that last time out? Just a terrible job coaching. I watch guys like Rogers, Wilson, Brady, Big Ben, use the pocket, move to open space, give their receivers an extra second or two to work to get open, even with the pocket collapsing around them. Joe just seems to stand there flat footed. It's exteremely frustrating to see such potential and no results. With these two behind us and Cincy and Pittsburch looming in the next two weeks, the way those offesnes score points, the way our defense has been carved up, the way our offense has turned into a one-trick-pony (Flacco to Steve), I am hard pressed to see how we won't be 0-4 come October.

That being said, if we don't salvage this season especially with the high expectations, what does that say for Harbaugh? Has he lost the team? How long of a leash do you think he has? If we cannot turn this around, we are looking at MAYBE 4 wins, that is, if we can actually come to play against CLE twice, MIA, JAX. I can't see this team, the way they've played, beating anyone else on the schedule at this point.

Luckily, it's early yet. And the NFL is a crazy league. This coaching staff better wake up and smell the coffee. We need to prepare and take these games one at a time, stack some positive, plays, stack some wins, and, in the words of Herman Edwards, "PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!".

Let's go Ravens. Who is going to step up and DOMINATE?!?!

No duh we need to regroup. First order of business, tell the docs to shutup, this is the NFL. Perriman's health will be irrelevant if we keep dropping these games early on, particularly to division rivals. Get him out there.

Secondly, Pees either does bend-but-don't break, or we use blitz packages. This man coverage non sense with one corner that's got two fake knees and one coming off a lisfranc fracture is only gonna result in biting on double moves to compensate for their lost speed.

Your first round picks health is incredibly relevant. Bring him out now like you say and he permanently damaged his knee, we lost him forever. You let him heal and get him in week 4 or 5 and let him work. Odell Beckham did just fine and Perriman is in the same boat

Pees, needs to re-eval his scheme... Or GO. But, is there a decent DC out there to replace him with? You CAN NOT tell me that the loss of one player makes this big of an impact. Steve Smith has dropped 2 passes in the past two weeks that could have been game winners. There was no reason to not run the ball when we had a lead in the final 2 minutes and for that offense to cruse down the field on us is appalling.

We need to do better - we have to earn it - were sooo focused now - we take responsibility - we have to be accountable - blah blah blah!

I guest the preseason was no fluke at the rate we going. I remember those days when we would be down by 21 before half time, hopefully we can rebound by stacking a couple wins soon.

My 2 cents: neither of our coordinators are good enough to carry this team, and this will be our undoing this year.

With Pees it was already evident last year - the defense is not capable of finishing games. Back when we had Ngata, Mcphee and healthy Suggs, his bend-but-don't-break game plan did not work in close games. Even Harbaugh vocally criticized it last month by saying he'd like to get a stop for once from the defense in the last 2 minutes. The problem with his game plan is that the 3 man rush does not generate pressure. We might as well not rush at all. At the same time, our secondary is not capable of covering the whole field. And good QB-s, against whom we are playing all of our close games, will always find that one spot down the field, if they have 5-10 seconds to throw.

Now, as to Trestman. I was never a big fan of him. I've said it before, but there is a reason why he has worked for dozens of teams. And it's not because he's such a good coordinator that everyone tries to buy him over. Of course, we got a little spoiled with Kubiak, but Trestman is not good OC. Our personnel up front is the same as last year, yet we haven't been able to run the ball other than a couple of draw plays last week. And I can guarantee you, Bengals will be ready for those draw plays next week. However, I highly doubt that Trestman will be ready for the Bengals being ready. Which I predict will lead to similar rushing result as we had against the Broncos. However, I am glad that we saw some heavy passing from Flacco. I think everyone in Baltimore has always known what Flacco is capable of, maybe we can prove it to the rest of the league now too.

Still, I don't understand why we haven't used basically any power run formations. Trestman said this offseason he won't be changing the scheme. Over the first 2 weeks he has completely changed our offensive identity. I won't even get started on the playcalling in last 2 minutes.

Bottom line, our defense will not shut out anyone with Pees as coordinator thus we can not leave any of our games to be decided by our defense. At the same time, I'm not sure when Trestman's new offense will be ready to carry this team. It has not happened in the first 2 weeks and I'm afraid it won't happen in the next 2 either.

It's going to be a LOOOOOONG September, and I'm afraid we're going to need some serious help to have a shot at the playoffs.

All this talk of Pees must go. I'm disappointed with my fellow Ravens fans. Seriously, this pants-wetting about the team has got to stop. You either believe or get off the bus. I, for one, shall not accept anyone's contention that this team is not one of the 6 best in the conference. They do need to start playing like it, though...immediately.
