[News] The Breakdown: Eisenberg's Five Thoughts vs. Raiders

79 posts in this topic

1. Does anyone REALLY think this team can beat the Bengals?

2. Does anyone REALLY think this team can beat the Steelers after what they did today and will have Bell back?

3. Did we just watch a defense that was a little full of itself after playing bend but don't break against noodle arm Manning and thought they had the talent on the outside to play man coverage?

4. Anyone that discounts Suggs role just needs to know that he usually draws double coverage allowing others to create pressure. Without him it's hat on a hat blocking and we suck.

5. All that said, if we can put toghether an offensive perfomance like today's and get Perriman back, and get our humility and focus back on defense, we can still be an amazing team worthy of being inheritors of the black and purple of Lewis, Reed, Suggs and Ngata.

Quick Hits -- this isn't your thuggish, hittem hard and take no prisoners Ravens team of old. I fear those days may be gone now.

this game absolutely killed me to watch. our corners were not pressing! Defensive line was getting no pressure and a 2nd year Qb carves up a very talented unit? how does that happen?

My final thoughts are that Flacco slightly led SSS in the end zone what should've been a TD. two weeks in a row we were a caught football from most likely winning our games. Settling for field goals will always cost you, just like the Chargers game last year. I pray the Defensive line and pass rushers get real motivated because they looked real ordinary against a below average O-line of the Raiders

if this performance is any indication, this will be the worst record in the harbaugh era and a sorely under .500 performance. the only reason our offense did so well was that their secondary was garbage.. if you put both perfomances together you can see this team is reflective of the 2002-2006 roster.. defense is pretty good, and the offense is meh- bad at best. i am an avid baltimore fan but even the optimist in me can't see this team getting past a 4-12 season in this state. we have no field stretcher and if/when perriman comes back he'll be so raw that he'll be a non-factor. looking at the schedule, only the Jaguars and Browns are on par for bad with the Raiders. if we can't beat Oakland.. this year is practically already in the books. if there is one plus side to this, it's that ozzy will have a top 10 draft pick for the 1st time in near a decade... hopefully they use it on something other than a receiver, free up some cap space, and look to free agency to fill that void.. it's a well known fact Home-grown Baltimore receivers don't fair very well.

At least Trestman made adjustments and the offense was aggressive. I had been calling for that all week. The passing game got us in a rhythm and opened up the draw plays in the run game. That should be our identity on offense. Trying to establish the run first to set up the pass just makes us predictable and puts us in too many 3rd and long situations. On defense, Will Hill played well and everyone else just embarrassed themselves.

The key word from these first two losses seems to be "Adjustments", either the OC and DC need to be able to make them on the field, or Steve Bisciotti might have to make them off the field ...

Wow. Hugely disappointing effort, especially on defense. No pass rush, poor coverage, and I really think the Raiders could've moved the ball more on the ground had they chosen too. They made Carr look like old-school Peyton Manning, back when he had a neck and working arm. And the offense? Couldn't or wouldn't commit to the run, and Flacco frustratingly still under throwing wide open receivers when he has time and throwing off of his back foot in pressure situations and sailing passes. Not pretty.

The Patriots shredded Pee's short pass defensive scheme, done in playoff game with HOF Tom Brady.

The Oakland Raiders shredded Pee's short pass defensive scheme with Derek Carr.

This is about Pee's, not Suggs. And about Harbaugh if Pee's can't answer.

when the score kept going back and forth I had a feeling we were gonna lose. Everytime we scored, on their next possession our defense couldn't stop them from scoring. SSS and Crockett seemed to be the only receivers "playing like a Raven." On defense, they should've sat Webby down...he was being humiliated out there. The only defensive players that seemed to be trying was Jimmy Smith, Will Hill III, CJ Mosely, Darryl Smith. The rest of the defense didn't show up!! That late hit on Carr by Jernigan was so stupid, costly, and so unnecessary. Hardly any of our receivers could get separation. It seems like it's true what one other commenter said earlier about the "Ravens don't have that thug mentality anymore. They're not hitting wit bad intentions like they're supposed to." They don't have that "killa instinct" and aren't hungry. smh

The OC should be hung by his ankles over a alligator pit along with Jernigen. Of course I'll be rooting for the alligators. We are stuck with this OC for the season; next year look for someone with some football brains. Jernigen should be suspended or let go. "Play like a Raven" does not include stupid football. Joe continues to prove he is not elite. Two wide open receivers, for TD"s, missed by a lot...not even close. The last one a game winner just like last week. As usual Joe played great otherwise. Probably a big mistake not playing Babin. Two loses in a row that should not have been. Coach Harbaugh, and everyone else who cares are in for a long miserable season. Oh, all is not lost as Coach Harbaugh is not a quitter, but it will be to at least week 8 before the smoke clears, and maybe hope will appear. Congrats to ex Raven coach Del Rio as he really ambushed us today. We were out coached and out played by rookies. Where are the Bangels?....tomorrow is another day.

Well I'd say they have a lot to work on, finding an emotional team leader on defense, and working on Joe's throwing technique are 2 things. They better figure it out soon next week the Bengals, and Marvin Lewis knows how to beat us if they go 0 and 3 bad news.

reed20fence? Maybe playing a division rival is what we need to give us that spark to get us going. Right now we don't seem to have enough motivation, as a team.

The Ravens secondary looked completely lost at times, especially the corners......of course it didn't help that the pass rush was nonexistent, heck, even the run defense was soft. The next two teams that the Ravens play have pretty stout offenses, so an 0-4 start is not out of the question. I'm not a Dean Pees fan right now.....and settling for FG's is not a recipe for winning.

The defense was poorly prepared for this match up and lacked intensity. It looked like they expected the Raiders to lay down and surrender after their blowout loss last week. On any given Sunday, you can stink up the joint with sloppy play. And the Ravens defense did. stink. And it won't get better anytime soon.

Last week defense showed up. Today our offense got it together, but our defense couldn't stop anything. Hopefully both sides show up next week. I don't know why some of these so-called Ravens fans are giving up, but it's only the 2nd week...and yes, we should be 2-0 but it happens, come on people, let's have some faith...

I can't believe we rushed three on a goal line stand at the end of the game when the secondary was getting beaten all day. I am not and have not been a Dean Pees fan. The defense looks lost and we are so predictable that it's easy to read. We could not get any pressure on the QB and the corners were playing 10 yards deep giving up all the underneath passes all night. This is unacceptable.. Fire Pees now and let's try and get our defense back to what they used to be.

1. Ravens new weapon is Gilmore. Trestman has to be more creative to get him the ball

2. Coordination is a big problem on this team. Offensively and Defensively. Raiders defense is terrible so I expected Ravens score about 30 points

3. Too much talent on defense to consistent lose games at the end. Bengals, Patriot, Broncos, Steelers, and now Raiders. Pees is not a closer. Even Harbs pointed out how bad the Ravens are end of half/end of games

4. I'll get negged but it is what it is. Front office mistakes are showing. Ravens are overpaying the wrong guys. Rice got a big contract then was on the decline. to boot you cut him as a PR move and had $9M in dead money (who couldn't you extend because of that $9M), Webb had one good season then got a top CB contract, Pitta busted his hip and you gave him a long-term contract (sorry I love him but not smart), Monroe is no better than Oher . Yet Boldin, Pollard, Torrey, Jones were let go for a couple Million here or there. Add to that not having recent top draft picks not working out (Kindle was supposed to be young pass rusher, Cody run stuffer, Upshaw (JJ role), Elam (bust), Brown (can't beat out a 32 yr old in his 3rd season.

5. Young guys need to grow and leaders need to get team fired up. I wonder who will push and who will folder under the pressure

I thought Trestman called a good game. The offense was aggressive from the start, had 6 scoring drives and no 3-and-outs. Their defense was banged up, but our offense severely lacks speed and playmakers. Trestman put us in a position to go up 7 with 2 mins left. It was just a bad throw and SSS couldn't get his second foot in bounds. Trestman was awful last week, but he made good adjustments and put us in a position to win this week. The defense blew it.

1. No Superstars on Defense. We are very Vanilla without Suggs. Sure, the LB's and Secondary made some mistakes, but All good defense starts up front with Pressure on the QB and Run Stopping. 2. Dean Pees needs to make adjustments during the game. We got carved up by a short passing Carr today and a rookie receiver. The Raiders adjusted and shut down Crockett in the 2nd half. I guess Del Rio and crew out did Harbs and Crew. 3. Crockett is a monster, Trestman please draw up a gameplan that uses him more. 4. Looking for the Leader on D, Steve Smith cannot be the only player on this roster with a Personality and a bad attitude. 5. What happened to Ravens back field with a Tailback and a Fullback? If the O Line is Struggling bring in Juice to block and get some screens to Forsett and quick outs to our Monster Tight End. He'll get the YACs if you get him the ball early on some quick drops.

Holy mackerel! Just how bad is this team? A defense that gives up 37 points to a sub par qb. An offense that makes stupid bonehead play calls. A quarterback who can't hit a wide open receiver. The Steelers and Bengals are next. They must be salivating after seeing this god awful team play. Worst performance by a Ravens team since 1996. Oh, and the defense did not play great against an old, unable to run, unable to throw Manning. They let Denver keep the ball in the 4th quarter for 11 minutes. Terrible scheme and a loss that should not have been.

During the offseason when the receiving core was being hype as deep in talent and tough cut would need to be made. I said either the receivers are legit or our secondary has not improved. Webb is a liability on the field and against the Cap. I still can't understand on 3rd and short , our CB are 7-8 yards off the ball. It's every week for the past 3 years. SMH

I guess the defense was reading in the press how good they looked in Denver.....Apparently Oakland didn't get the press release on that. However....last year if I remember the Steelers lost their first 2 (or 3 I can't remember) games and made the playoffs. So all is not lost. GO RAVENS!

To hell with negs...this team needs to be negged the way they played the last 2 weeks.  Smh!

I agree!

5 thoughts.... 1. Dean Pees has consistently shown that he cannot adjust to teams who get the ball out quickly. Since he has taken over we have made mid tier qbs look like joe montana when they utilize 3 and 5 step drops. We have made too big of an investment in the defense to allow pees to continue to leave us looking lost against the derek carrs of the world. 2. what is wrong with the OL under trestman? We ran the ball so well last season and seem to only beable to run draws this year. And it is not just James Hurst bc Hurst stepped in and we still ran well with him last season. 3. We have a pass rush and very athletic safeties... why cant we step up and play physical and press some of these WR's ... that is why we drafted large CB's but Pees never adjusts!SMH 4. Gilmore looked great and the raiders couldnt stop the TE if the game depended on it.... we knew this coming in and we have struggling WR's -why not utilize some two TE sets... we have the TE's, they struggle with TE's, it would give flacco more options until Perriman comes back and it will help the run game??????? 5. Harbs is going to need to do his best coaching ever this season if we are going to achieve anything at this point (I think it starts with getting rid of Pees)!

Suggs dont play DB.... we couldnt get pressure on the QB bc of the game plan.... if suggs was there it wouldnt have made a difference with a team committed to 3 and 5 step drops....the pass rush (which is what Suggs brings) was negated by the game plan and we never adjusted. This was not about suggs (thats an excuse) this was once again about Pees in ability to make adjustments and being unwilling or uncapable of altering the game plan no matter what the results. We got out game planned today.... (defensively)... and it keeps happening! Too much of an investment in the defense to not be able to stop anybody!
