[News] Game Recap: Raiders 37, Ravens 33

132 posts in this topic

Steve Smith holds onto the ball against Denver we win, Flacco throws the ball normally to a wide open Smith against Oakland we win and we are 2-0. We are 0-2 and are serious trouble. Teams starting out 0-2 have about a 13% chance of making the playoffs and we are in arguably the best division in the NFL. If the Raiders put up 37 points on our defense, the Bengals will put up 50, and the Steelers get LeVeon Bell back and they'll put up 60.

The Bengals game at home next week IS the season. We go 0-3, they will be 3-0 and it will be next to impossible to get back into it. It doesn't help that we have no deep threat at all at receiver. Even when Perriman is cleared to play, he is a rookie with no experience and we have no idea how effective he will be. I try to remain optimistic because I trust Ozzie and Harbaugh, but what I saw today was pretty shocking. I haven't seen a Ravens defense play that bad since the first 2 seasons in Baltimore.

My question what did the team REALLY do in San Jose all week? I know what they weren't doing.

Can we have someone in the booth with Pees who slaps him in the face every time we rush 3 guys? It NEVER works.

I'm sorry, but as much as I would like the start of this season to be at least 1-1, everyone here is acting as if the Raiders aren't capable of winning, ever........Neg me all you want, but they are an NFL team too that obviously didn't want a second loss in a row, and wasn't going to roll over and play dead just because the Ravens were coming to town..... They were definitely the better team today, and I truly hope the Ravens can bounce back from this bad start..... Any team, any given Sunday......

Seahawks, Lions, and Ravens, all are now 0-2..... All started the season on the road for both games..... All playoff teams last season.......

Two losses hurts. We've always had a tough time winning on the road, during the regular season. A few times we stole a game in Pittsburgh and here or there. We have the biggest home field advantage in the league, so we better win every home game this year. To do that, we're going to have to change our attitude to scoring as many points as we can steal or earn.  We need touchdowns and not FG's.  I almost wanted to go for it on 4th down at the end because I and most of you prob. thought the same thing, that...'Here we go.' Once we kicked off to Oak., it was like, you knew what they were going to do. After all, we couldn't stop them at all, all day, so I figured they were going to get 7 and they played the 2 min. drill perfectly. They deserved the win because we couldn't get out of our own way with penalties and no coverage on WR's. I'd hate to be our corners heading into this long week, as they were abysmal, which means...(thank you dictionary.com)...extremely or hopelessly bad or severe.

we will have to get some serious winning streaks going to salvage this already. Defense needs to get their crap together FAST offense found their stride but they need to manage that every week.

it befuddles me that Harbaugh had the kudos to go for it on 4th down DEEP in our own territory, early in the game, BUT.....you all can fill in the blanks (great point ravenstime)

Yeah pretty sure when Perriman comes back average Joe will just be under throwing him too. I mean if you under throw a wide open Aiken by 10 yards good luck hitting a track star with snake hands and old man knees.

Were in trouble, if Carr puts up 37 imagine what other qbs will do to us with a tough schedule we have. Our recievers are bad nothing from Campanaro and Marlon Brown I had have enough of him. Our offence has been the same the last 3 years its like when we are down 7 or 10 points they do something when the game is tied or we up 3 and we can go for opposing teams throat its always 3 n outs. We could of taken control of the game end of 2nd quarter and when we started with the ball in the 3rd. I am sick of fgs it has cost us so many games these past 2 years. That's why New England always gets byes they never lose to these teams. We will be lucky to win 8 games you guys can sugarcoat things but this is not a playoff team

First, I agree with all of the commentary regarding the players and the play on the field. I have said all along since prior to opening kickoff a week ago that this teams problem is depth. The starters on this team are excellent, we lack depth. Never before in this Harbaugh era has a Ravens team lacked the depth that we now lack. Our 2nd string players on Oline, Dline and skill positions are at best practice squad players on most NFL teams based on their performance. That is a major problem.

Second, and why we are probably in this boat (in part) -- Ozzie -- Please stop drafting skills players. They are a risk and they are not working out. Draft Oline, DLine and Linebackers, please. Stick to that. Acquire and build those players through the draft and do so with depth. I won't name any names but the skill players in the last few drafts have not worked out, so far. And as a result, we are light in other areas because it is inevitable that line guys will get banged up and you will lose a few now and then due to cap casualty and the market. Drafting unlucky has hurt us. Mosley is the only exception to that in recent years.

Last, I put this loss on the coaching staff. As bad as the players were, there are two major problems. One on each side of the ball. Pees doesn't know how to scheme and blitz properly. The game against Denver was false hope. Denver's offense is terrible and they should have lost by two touchdowns to the Chiefs if not for ill timed fumbles. Pees schemes are not good. Know your personnel, modify your game plan, please. The other issue is that we win that game with proper play calling on our final drive. We could have run the ball twice versus throwing two incomplete passes. What would have happened if we'd run the ball twice? Worst case, Oakland gets the ball back with about 1:55 on the clock and zero timeouts or two mins warning. Play prevent defense and guard the sidelines and the best they can probably do is kick of field goal and we at least go to overtime. Best case we run twice and get the 5 or 6 yards we needed to pick up just one more first down and the ballgame is over as we kick a FG with about 25 seconds left on the clock and Oakland having zero timeouts left. Either way, the scenario would have been much better. Trestman made the wrong play calls.

Harbs, take control. In the end, this falls directly on your shoulders bud.

I have had enough with this Dean Pees guy, His defensive scheme is too soft, especially corners playing 10 yards off the ball on 3rd and 3's. FIRE Pees and Bring in a guy like Jim Schwartz

Not to make an excuse but 2 games out west to start the season? Does the nfl scheduling dept hate the Ravens or what? And the Ravens played Denver at Denver the last time too. I follow football and don't see other teams getting the same treatment from league scheduling. Just a random thought. If one of these games had been at M&T the record might be different. Scheduling makes a huge difference in the scheme of things. For different reasons both these games were close and could have gone the other way. This team wasn't ready for prime time after the real season began. I'm sure Harbaugh won't get much sleep until this team improves. He's that kind of guy.

Ravens need to prepare better. The offense did phenomenal. In a regular game 33 points is way more than enough to win. If your defense is giving up more than 24 points you know it is an issue. Ravens need to buckle down and now they cannot afford to lose games. These next couple games against our division opponents mean even more now.

Can't see what a team can do until weeks 4 and 5 but one thing for sure it can tell the REAL from the FAKE in fan support! If you can't roll up your sleeves and get grimy with our squad then you need to check yourself! I'm down for my Squad "REGARDLESS"! It's on now! Let's Go Ravens

Nagta was not willing to restructure. Granted, he still may have a year or two left but not with a cap hit of 16 million. Difficult hit for most teams to swallow that kind of contract. Lions 0-2

J.Smith did not have a good game, getting burned on that long TD pass, Personal foul penalty, and some pass interference call, by far not his best game....but to be fair to the entire secondary, if you can't rush the QB, any N.F.L caliber QB is going to pick you apart...The issue is Pees needs to stop with a 3 man rush, doesn't work...If our CB's are solid, then he needs to come up with exotic blitzes and get a rush on the QB, if not, it's going to be a very long season...

I guess I have nothing more to add that hasn't already been said or is painfully obvious. None of it would be good, anyway. Oh wait.....nice effort by SSS. There's something.

We have a very young, but talented D-line, but they are going through growing pains...They over pursue, they allowed passing lanes to be open all day for Carr, we do need to sign a Veteran D-Lineman IMO....I would take a flier on Phil Taylor....
