[News] Game Recap: Raiders 37, Ravens 33

132 posts in this topic

Our team was bad in the preseason, dismissed by most observers. Maybe now the view is different.

Pee's does not know how to defend the short passing game and Del Rio got his team to repeat what the Patriots did.

With a beat up O-line, mediocre wide outs (save for Triple S) and a running back corps that no one is expecting Pro Bowls from, we still put up 33 on the road. Lots of upside there.

But the D? It's either a talent or coaching deficit, and I personally believe it falls on the coaches; most notably the guy responsible for game-planning. If all we're going to do is rush three guys and drop all the LB's into coverage, we might as well just get a bunch more DB's and get rid of all the guys whose numbers are in the 50's. We seem to put these guys into positions they can't play and space they can't cover forcing the safeties to creep in to help them. Meanwhile, the opposing QB could be wearing concrete shoes and our D-line couldn't get close enough to read his jersey- unless he's already thrown the pass, right Timmy?

Jason Babin is not going to do scott, and it would be a surprise if we get to 15 sacks this year ....time to tank & pick up some top draft picks and come back in a year or two ...no point in crawling into playoffs to be burned by Brady , Manning or Ben ..and loose top draft choices ...

I know it's just 2 games into the season but too many mistakes mostly by the coaching staff. The decision to stay on the west coast was bad... So many players complaining about waking up at 4 in the morning. The Defense coordinator didn't show up today. A no-name quarterback scored 37 point on you...No pressure what so ever.No adjustment at halftime. Sad

This^  With the exception of a few players that I mentioned earlier the real problem with this team is coaching on both sides of the ball.  I strongly believe we have the personnel, but they are not being used wisely.

So the defense falls apart because Suggs went down, they said this the first time in 16 years that Reid, Lewis, or Suggs has not been on the field to motivate the team. Well I think John H has got an obvious problem here because all the player coaches are gone now and John H is on his own!!!!! No advice from experienced motivational players.

Ed Reed.  With two 'e's.  He's only the best defensive back we've ever had.

Well I've been telling everyone I could before the season started that the Ravens should've found another playmaker at the wr spot even if perriman was healthy because he was our only field stretcher. We don't have another playmaker at the te or wr spot other than smith sr. Every year the front office lets the team start the season with one position thin an that's the wr position this ur. Last yr it was corner the yr before it was oline. Flacco needs to stand in the pocket an throw a good ball, dean pees needed to have a better game plan an better blitzes. Trestman reminds me of cam Cameron an Eugene Monroe can't stay on the field. The corners playing a mile of the ball drives me nutts as usual. I'm done with my rant but there's more I could say but we start like this every year...smh!!

This Ravens team is not that good!

1. The offense plays like garbage vs the Broncos and keeps up with the Raiders but can't finish them off!

2. The defense shuts out Peyton Manning and the Broncos receivers but plays like hot garbage and gets torched by Carr, rookie receivers and Crabtree!

These Ravens are not good...period!

I think everybody is overreacting. After further deliberation, this is the best possible thing that could happen to us. It adds fuel to the fire with a season in which we'll be definitely on fire come November, when we play our best football. Would you rather be us at 0-2 or the 2-0 Cowboys, whose wins we're both loses, on account of losing Dez Bryant and Tony Romo to injuries, with the timetable of their returns being about 8 weeks, need I remind you, two integral parts of their offense that essentially carry the team also? I'd rather be us. 10 and in. Believe me, these next to games will be must wins. Which means, there is a possibility to sweep the division this year, or atleast end up 5-1 which should win it. If not, that should be a lock on a wild card spot. Because week 17 vs the Bengals will also be a must win. And we always sweep Cleveland. With us being a dominant home team, if we win all 8 home games this year and 2 on the road (Cinci, Pittsburgh), that should do it. I'm no psychic but we have to take these games one at a time. I said last year after that loss to Houston we needed that and we'd get in the playoffs the next week. I'll be damned, it happened. Remember, there are plenty of teams that make the playoffs after starting 0-2. The Colts did it this year and who knows if they'll win tomorrow? The 01 Pats and Giants started off the same way and won it all that year. We're gonna be fine. Go Ravens!

I like your attitude buddy. I'm trying as hard as I can to remain positive but this team is making it quite difficult. Just gotta take it one game at a time. All we need to worry about is taking care if cinci. Chances are growing slim but if anybody can climb back in it it's us.

Our owner, Steve Bisciotti, was willing to spend a million bucks to have our team stay on the west coast and provide all the amenities he could to reduce the hardship on the players. Steve intended to help the chances of a win over this supposedly easy opponent. I feel a lot of gratitude for having such a great owner willing to foot such a massive bill. A painful loss against a team we should have beaten even if they didn't stay on the west coast and had jet lag.. I wonder if Steve is willing to foot such a hefty bill again since we lost anyway. But I sure appreciate Steve's commitment to his team. Thank you Steve Bisciotti.

I'm almost at a loss for words. The Ravens were Completely out-played by the freakin' Oakland Raiders. You really can't pull any positives from this game, except that it finally ended. And the next two games are against much, much better teams. Hard to believe this is the same defense that played last Sunday.

The Bengals game will tell a ton about the rest of the season. Maybe the Ravens can get both sides of the ball working in tandem to win one. Something has to done on D to change the equation or they'll be looking for a new D coordinator sooner rather than later. Been a fan the Baltimore Colts and of course the Ravens but honestly never remember a team taking apart a Baltimore D so completely and thoroughly as the Raiders did today. And I saw the Colts in the 50's exchange 56-0 insults with the Bears one season, with the Colts winning the first time and the Bears taking it the second time.Even then, it didn't seem as bad a shellacking as the R's experienced today. The Bears D scored 3 TD's in that game.

I have to disagree.  Our WRs are not mediocre.  Joe can't keep under and over throwing them first of all.  Second of all, use your personnel properly.  Don't send Waller and Brown on Go routes and expect them to have good separation.  It's not going to happen.  Akiman didn't have a great day, but he wasn't horrible either.  We have good personnel.  We need to use them better.  Finally, some of our WR look bad because Joe focuses in on one WR making us at home ask why the other WRs can't get open.

I rather be 2-0. We have lost people also. Suggs' season ending injury, Monroe with concussion, and you might as well say that Webb is "lost" on the field with his performances the last two games. So no I rather be 2-0 and not 0-2.

kyle arrington is probably our worst corner we've had since chykie brown, but he's gonna cost us a few tough games before the coaching staff figures it out. Heres yet another game the ravens lose because of its lack of WRs that can play. Why is WR the only position that ozzie can't figure out? its sad, steve smith was by himself out there, Marlon brown is worthless aiken should be a 4th option at best, this is sad to see.. aw well go ravens :/

Consistant play has been the story for this team for years. At least we saw what the offense could do. Can't believe we loss to the Raiders %uD83D%uDE20%uD83D%uDE15%uD83D%uDE29.

Upset is an understatement. I actually have a stomach ache. This game was ulcer worthy. Defense went from a week 1 top ranking to the cellar in a hurry. Painful to watch Carr pick our defense apart. Great to see some life in the offense and it should have been enough. As soon as we settled for a FG on the last drive, I knew that the defense was going to blow the game. I need Maalox and Zantac after this one.[/quote

Perriman let the organization down. I know you can't control injuries but we were all counting on him and he didn't come through. By the time he comes back it might be to late

the ship is sinking. both coordinators are so predictable it's hilarious. Trestman, stop teaching joe to lob passes, if that throw was a dart to SSS, most likely it would've been a TD. The draws were so easy to predict every time they were ran. Please give the keys back to Joe and pound the ball between the guards. Pees, use press coverage! you have good corners and safeties yet you would rather let offenses get 7-10 yard passes until the red zone then pray the defense makes a play. Get Aggressive! we have a lot of talent on that side. i would rather gamble with a blitz or pressing the Wr and have them make a play then watch them get these short yardage plays, one after another. ughhhhhh

I said the same thing! I've seen it too many times, especially last season. Almost every game we lost last yr, we had the lead in the 4th qt! Only let the defense blow it. I'm sick of seeing it happen tho.

this would be a good time for Ozzy to give Ed Reed a call about possibly returning as a position coach. the team needs it's motivation back.. with Suggs out, Lewis a commentator, Reed is the only Ravens Legend left that could make an impact on the defense and turn it around.. the Raiders are terrible and the fear that this team could be one of the bottom performers in the NFL this year is very, very real. I love this team but Ozzy should have known better than to try and draft a receiver.. Baltimore has never drafted a true #1 wideout it's entire existence. hopefully next year when Rice no longer effects the cap Baltimore can hit free agency hard to replace Smith and get us a legit #2 as well. I can't help but feel this year is already in the books with the absolutely terrible play shown in these first 2 games.

As far as I could see, we have no D-line. Im sorry but Jernnigan & Williams are proving to be 2nd & 3rd string DT's at best. They just don't have the size to be starters for us. All day I kept seeing the Raiders O-lineman attacking our LB's and also Carr had endless time to throw.

Week 1 was an offensive nightmare, week 2 was a defensive embarrassment. I can't believe we just lost to the Oakland Raiders... it doesn't get any easier from here on out guys. Cincy next week, then Pittsburgh. Everyone is healthy, everyone had motivation to play, what is happening? The ship ain't sinking, but there might be a crack in the hull.

Our D-line is garbage. never in my time as a Ravens fan have I seen them look that weak.

Back to back games the poor game management lost us the game. The lack was pass rush was bad news. Even for this secondary. We have to hope Babin can get after it, cause I didn't see anyone getting in there. And when can we figure out that Webb is not starting caliber any more. He gets beat too frequently. Melvin needs to come back healthy.

one week the offense doesn't show up, the next week the defense doesn't show up.....could be a long sad season.

The offense showed up with an all out aerial attack against a beat up, inexperienced secondary. Don't expect that to work against more polished teams. The biggest concern is our defensive line, because we don't have one without Suggs.
