The Good, Bad and Ugly vs Raiders

Can Suggs act as our DC while he is injured? Seriously though, looking at our coaching staff I'm not sure who could replace him if we are looking inside the team. Outside?Maybe Colts lose tomorrow and Pagano gets fired Tuesday?

We make an offer to pull Jim Harbaugh out of Michigan. Sorted.

Yeah I agree with you on this . This game tells me that Peyton is close to finished with little zip on the ball and timing issues he never use to have . Our defense is not as good as it looked in Denver

Yep, Broncos should've beaten us by 20 but Peyton's arm is finished.

Boy this one hurts and at work tomorrow wow. I have 2 Raiders fans who will definitely say something not to mention the multitude of Steeler fans... It stinks and being it was against the Raiders what can I really say. We stunk defensively from the beginning all the way through. I guess Suggs needs a serious pay raise because the rest of the defense cant pull it out.

The good - the weather was nice here today :P

The bad - my Steelers wife is kicking me when I am down

The ugly - now having to wear a paper bag over my head when I go outside with my jersey on :D

Can't wait for the positive PR article this week: "Defense out to prove themselves"

lmbo

And you know - that will happen.

Of course the WRs out to prove themselves didn't happen.

I am not one to overreact this early in the season.  I know the chances of teams making it after 0-2 start are not great, but we have the chance to get right back on track next week at home.  This may be an overreaction but I truly think it is time we look at a possible change at defensive coordinator.  I would wait and see how the next 4-6 games go but if it does not improve then we should make a switch.  They were doing trips on one side and throwing quick short throws, Pees did not have our corners jam the receivers or anything, he had them sit back 10 yards as we failed to tackle the ball carrier.  No pass rush whatsoever when rushing 4 guys, but we barely blitzed and when we did we got good results.  Hopefully Babin can come in provide a pass rush because Z'darius Smith is not ready to play consistent snaps this year.  Offensively we played really well as we should have, but Flacco flat out missed on that last throw to Smith Sr. that should have been a touchdown.  We have a chance to turn it around but our defensive adjustments need to change and we need to come out more aggressive defensively next week or we will be 0-3

Not an overreaction at all.Pees shoulda been gone a while ago

The good:

The draft is a little over seven months away.

I'm pretty sure stores will start stocking that pumpkin spice creamer as autumn is almost here

Everything else was bad.

I can think of two players s made on defense. Both by will hill. Brandon Williams, Jernigan, Dumervil, upshaw, Mosley were non existent.

Joe has very little real touch and seems to question or overthink throws. How do you underthrown Aiken by THAT much in the first quarter?

The final throw? Name another big name QB who misses that throw? Romo? Roethlisberger?

I put little blame on Trestman. Designed a play to get six and it worked.

I think we ought to trade down a few spots....say to nine or ten..stockpile picks ..

Lord knows I'm no Flacco apologist

I am and have been since Day 1, but some people on this board turn rabid in their defense of him. Nothing is literally ever his fault. It's gotten so bad that I can't tell when people are being sarcastic or not.

Lord knows I'm no Flacco apologist, and that miss to Steve Smith was brutal. But that didn't lose us the game...it just prevented OT, where I'm not convinced we would've won anyway.

The defense can't give up 37 to guys like Derek Carr. What are Ben and Rivers going to do? Hell, what's Dalton going to do?

Wreck us. Long drives. Third down conversions made to look simple.

No let's keep it real:

TD there would have definitely helped but in the end - all the D had to do was hold. Besides, they gave up a TD anyway didn't they? So at best it would have given us a tie.

Defense was pure unadulterated garbage today. Period. Offense did their job.

They usually do, but Pees usually gets the excuse of injured players. Since Suggs is out, its only a matter of time.

Is it time we give Clarence Brooks a chance at defensive coordinator?  I would not fire Pees right now, but if this season continues to go poorly then we would have nothing to lose if we promoted Brooks and let him have 6-8 games of running our defense

There will be many drives against us this year where no third downs even need to be converted.

lol The Pees crowd was already using Suggs as an excuse for that performance.

That's keeping it real man!

Of course we all know the defense was pure trash and can't give up 37 points to the likes of Carr.  We all get that!  However, WHEN the game is in your QB's hands to win it....he's got to win it!  Joe has to make that throw to a wide open Smith Sr. in the endzone for the "possible" (cause he could have dropped it..who knows?) game winning TD to put the Raiders away.  I guarantee that Joe himself will say that this week!

Don't hear the wrong thing in your haste to defend Joe cause I'm not attacking him.  He played lights out with a few under and over throws as usual.  But, I'm speaking of one isolated play that could have possibly sealed the game late in the 4th quarter.

Last-drive melt downs by this defense have been the norm for like the past 4 years

Dean Peas became our DC in 2012

Too many draft years spent going defense heavy - we went offense heavy this season but Maxx isn't being used by Trestman and Perriman isn't yet on the field. Waited to long to get Flacco some weapons and now we see what waiting for pick #5 or later does for your offense.

I've been saying this for years. With all we've invested in the defense not just money wise but in terms of draft picks you would think they would dominate ever opponent on that side of the ball(at least the front 7) but we dont. Our defenses are good and are still respected, but they just dont have that aura that they used to from the last decade. Not to mention many of the receivers we failed to acquire or just plain dont go after.I know where not a big spending franchise but sometimes you have to make those moves especially when you invested the amount of money in Joe that you have.

The fact is that we haven't had a good defense since 2011. Yes, we won the SB in 2012, but it literally took Flacco having the best postseason of all time to do it.

This defense CANNOT be trusted in the 4th quarter anymore. Just like Mattison's defense in 2010.
