The Good, Bad and Ugly vs Raiders

726 posts in this topic

Flacco is not elite. He's very good. But elite has maybe two guys rn

Aaron Rodgers

Tom Brady

And Luck for even his current bad play is knocking on the door.

He's in the next tier. Which is fine. Who gives a damn whether he's elite or not? The point is moot. He's good enough to win a SB. That's all that freaking matters. The only other QBs besides the three listed above are Brees, Ben, and if Peyton decides to play well again him. That's pretty much it.

And guess what. Saying he's not good enough to win one is beyond foolish. Why? BECAUSE HES ALREADY WON ONE.

Anywho. Flacco didn't have the best game but he deserves some of the blame. Bad throw at the end. The int really didn't matter. It would've taken a miracle to have scored there.

That said. He was the only reason we were in it.

Nice post

Well written, clear headed thought put into it. Joe is our guy that is clear.

Now Joe did underthrow at least 2 balls that would have been TD's vs Oakland, but he gets a pass. He's pressing too and will settle down when our team does.

Hopefully that day will be Sunday.  Let it be so!

Well, its hard to argue with the facts. Facts are stubborn. FACT: Most of Joe's greatest & favorite Go-To weapons have been taken away from him since our SB run in 2012. Correct me if I'm wrong but
those weapons include Ray Rice, Dennis Pitta, Owen Daniels, Torrey Smith, Anquan Boldin and Jacoby
Jones, not to mention an All-Pro center. And all of those weapons were replaced by whom? Steve Smith & Justin Forsett, right???? Yeah, I'd say he's definitely elite and Donald Trump, among others, would agree. Despite the loss of all these offensive players, he played the last two seasons without some pretty good defensive players, including Ray Lewis and Ed Reed, just to name a couple. Now, he's playing w/o Ngata and Suggs. FACT: Were it not for a horrific dropped pass in the end-zone in 2011 in Foxboro by someone called Lee Evans, Joe would have been in his 1st SB and surely would have soundly defeated the NY Giants. FACT: Were it not for the keystone cops secondary we had last year (who were comical at times) , Joe would have been playing in his 3rd SB in 7 seasons with our team. Yes, it was the elite Joe Flacco who led us to two 14 point leads in the AFC Championship Game. FACT: Despite losing so many weapons who have been replaced by one very outstanding veteran, SSS, and a fortuitous find in Forsett plus several other castoffs from other NFL teams, Joe has had his team in position to win both of first two games on the road this year only to watch the defense fail when the games were on the line. FACT:  Our final record in 2005 was 6-10. The only reason our record will be better than that this year is because we have one of the best QBs in the NFL on our team. He is capable of throwing the ball 70 yards in the air when he has someone who is fast enough to get upfield and catch his effortless bombs. Last year it was Torrey Smith; I hope it will be Breshad Perriman sooner rather than later for Joe's sake. Alternatively, our organization should deal "His Eliteness" to another team whose fans appreciate his gifted skill set rather than to have him subjected to the criticism he receives here in BMore from a lot of spoiled and ungrateful fans. FACT: Joe's elite by your own definition, not mine. After this year's two Super Bowl QBs --- Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady --- who's any better than Joe. The answer is NOBODY

Cool. He's not a top 3 or 5 QB.

It all depends on what you use to rate a QB.  Does Joe put up those regular season, gawdy stats?  nope.  If that's how you rate your QB then he's not top.

For me, I've always felt he was one of the most clutch QBs.  The LFW article yesterday posted a chart that showed he had the highest TD% in those clutch moments.  He's also one of the top 3 playoff QBs in the league when looking at career TD to INT ratio (with Rodgers and Brees).

Considering that Joe has made the playoffs with good defenses and bad ones (Ben for instance has only made the playoffs once with a defense ranked out of the top 5 and still didn't win a game), those two factors are the most important.

Think about this, if Joe had 2 or 3 superbowl wins/appearances, he'd be called elite.  He doesn't have 2 or 3 because a WR dropped a pass in 2011 and an undrafted free agent started in the secondary and was abused in 2014.  Peyton with his NFL leading one and done playoff record is and was considered elite because of regular season stats.  Luck is currently getting that treatment and players like Stafford, Romo, Ryan, and Rivers have also.  Give Joe ANY of their offensive weapons and I'd bet he's suddenly considered "elite" and in MVP races

Ask Eli about being elite. He has 2 rings and the last name to go along with it, yet nobody would call him elite. Joe and Eli are actually very similar. Up and down regular seasons, but has the ability to turn in on in January and win SBs.

In reality, who cares? Joe is Joe and is the best QB our franchise has ever had. What does it matter if the talking heads on TV think he's elite? He will never be Rodgers or Brees, but he's capable of beating both of them. That's all that really matters imo.

To be fair, "can't spell Elite without Eli" talk started right after the second superbowl.  It just ended after he threw 26 INTs and under 4000k yards after that
