[News] Eisenberg: Why Ravens Need To Ignore Who They're Playing

52 posts in this topic

Ravens should be ready for anything. They have been through so much the last few years. It is time for the football gods to smile down on us for once. Go for it Ravens and show what you are made of.

Absolutely right ... too often, it seems like they play down to poor opponents and turn these kinds of games into adventures. All the Ravens need to think is this:

As an offense, we played like garbage last week. No excuses on the quality of the defense we played, the environment (on the road to open the season) or anything else. That was an embarrassment that cannot be repeated.

As a defense, we played well, but we need to make sure we bring that same focus. Just cause we're not facing Manning and Thomas and Sanders, doesn't mean anything. Everyone that dons a jersey in the NFL can make you look bad if you aren't ready to play.

BERNARD POLLARD just worked out with the RAIDER'S,GOD help FLACCO without MONROE.

OMG BERNARD POLLARD.....Now I'm really scared.

I think you can relax. They are working him out today. I highly doubt he'll be given his physical tonight, signed tomorrow morning and thrown on the field in the afternoon.

Besides, even if they did, I think there are other players already on the team that have the potential to present Flacco more worries with Monroe being out than Pollard. IF they like him, he will most likely not be ready to go with them until next week.

The Ravens just have to stop beating "THEMSELVES"! Once again they were in a position to win and threw it all away! If Joe throws 2 more INTs I'm sorry but he will have to be benched! The pats game still got me irked and back to back against the broncos SMH!

You mean the game in which he threw 4 TDs, very well could have had 5 (had Daniels pulled in the ball on the 2nd to last drive), gave us 2 different 14 point leads (which we promptly blew) ... that had you "irked" ?

Talk about SMH!

Denver looked pretty disorganized on offense, but they may have the most dangerous D in the league right now. The offense looked bad against a great D which means they're likely pretty good, not great. The Raiders are their usual hot mess with injuries enough to make this a lopsided affair. Anything less and we'll all start wondering just how suspect our offense is. A loss is out of the question. Might as give them peg them as 8-8 and 3rd in the AFC North without a playoff appearance if that happens.

Everybody chill. The Raiders are NOT the Denver Broncos. That defense was a fuss(and ours was pretty damn good as well). We need this win. Flacco rarely has back to back bad games and their secondary is a trainwreck. Have faith.

On the road and playing one of the best QB's in the NFL hands down. We gave up no offensive running or passing TD's. We played most of the game without our full starting Offensive line against the coach who rebuilt our offense last year. We had the opportunity to win the game on the final possession and just mere inches separated who caught or would intercept the pass that would have won it. The Denver defense is thought to be a top five unit this year. Moral victories don't count in the standings but Denver knows they barely won the game. We have good pass rushers coming after our weakened offensive line and Joe again this Sunday. I believe in our team and I would never count out Joe Flacco. Go Ravens !! (W)hats (I)mportant (N)ow !!!!

@ January J: If Joe got the Ravens two 14pt leads and the secondary didn't hold it down for the Ravens because of all the injuries "WHY" throw the ball to Torrey with a "MINUTE PLUS" remaining on the clock making it the secondary job to win the game! Forsett had a good day why not ground and pound that minute plus for a TD?! And back to back INTs in denver denied the Ravens the win again! I can stand alone on this don't need brownie points just "WINS"!

Some fans probably think the Ravens should reprise that blowout this Sunday, and maybe they will, especially since both Oakland safeties are injured, opening the door for the Ravens to get their downfield passing game going. But predicting this week's results based on last week's performances can get you in trouble in today's unpredictable NFL, which Harbaugh calls "a week to week league." The Raiders fell flat last week, but their new head coach, Jack Del Rio, is respected, and they'll be desperate to put on a credible performance after falling behind 33-0 against the Bengals. I wouldn't get carried away with the idea that they're just going to roll over.

^ The Ravens need to take care of their business. This offense needs to getting going quick, fast and in a hurry and them remain aggressive!  Don't sleep on the Raiders!

Oh, darn. I was hoping Pollard would hand us the game on unsportsmanlike penaltes alone  ;)

Eisenberg is perfectly right - and the Ravens must listen. Yesterday, in the Rugby World Cup [great games by the way - if anyone wants to see really complete athletes] South Africa was a 43-point favorite against Japan. And Japan won 34-32.

Hey John......calling the Raiders a "losing opponent" must mean the Ravens are too.....I guess? Perhaps a better choice of words is in order? In case you didn't check, both teams are "losers" according to you. I know what you are trying to say, but you do this for a living. Don't be like the other "writers" on here.

Great Game! Crazy game indeed!!!

Only problem with me is that a third of the Japanese roster were not Japanese including the most important starters..... Its supposed to be Japan's National Team not (international team)

sometimes you gotta take what's given and go for the throat. If Torrey had caught the Ball it would have been a completely diffrent storyline and you'd have an entire different outlook. He put the ball where it needed to be. And I'm sorry , but is joe the play caller?

Anyway, enough of living in the past. Let's see how joe rebounds TODAY.

in school I played fast-pitch softball, basketball and until my freshman year football. As soon as I put my uniform on I was ready for any team and gave 100%. I don't understand how, if you love the game, you can NOT leave it all on the field EVERY game no matter who you are playing.

I couldn't agree with you more, sami. I played the same way in EVERY game and in EVERY sport. I may have, actually, played too competitively if that's possible because I was constantly battling injuries and finding myself going under the knife in surgeries. But that's why I have Never, and Never will understand why the Ravens Consistently start games so flat. This team almost always starts slowly and never looks like it's ready to play. Slow out of the starting gate. Why has this been such a consistent problem? I definitely think part of the coaches' jobs is to have their teams ready to play and all too often that is not the case with the Ravens. I don't fully blame the coaches, though, because the players bear responsibility too. Nobody ever needed to "fire me up" or get me ready to play. I was chomping at the bit. I'd like, very much, to see our team improve in this area and have been saying so for a long time.

I've heard several times that on the first couple of possessions the plays were scripted....maybe they need to unscript them.

This has been the Ravens Achilles' Heal for years, they play down to their opponents level, instead of playing full throttle every game. The bad teams stick around, and as we have seen many times, the 'Bad' team wins.
