Will this be our best defense since 2006?

55 posts in this topic

For a crew this young, you got to give them their dues.  Our young guys are just balling.

Old news is seahawks.  By next year most of them will feel overpaid.

December is going to make a lot of names for Ravens.  We are going against Dolphins, Seahawks, Chiefs.  Just when people are buzzing about how good our opponents D's are then see us completely dominate them...  things are going to change for us big time.  Just watch

If Manning had any touch with a ball thrown past 20 yards, our game wouldn't have even been close.

With that said, we'll have a top 10 D and O.

Yea he missed Sanders twice who was abusing Webb deep. It was obvious Webb just didn't have the quickness or speed to stick him. Lewis should learn to Shade to Webbs side because he's going to need the help.

And yes Manning overthrew him, but was it just bad throws by Manning or was the defensive pressure forcing him to rush his throws and brace for big hits.

Some of it was just poor play by Manning but you have to give some credit to the defense. The pressure clearly had him rattled all game long. Because it wasn't just deep throws he was missing, there were several short passes that he was way off the mark on.

Recievers were wide open Manning just can't play very well anymore

Played well 2nd half vs the Chiefs who many expect to have a top defense.

And it's tough to complete passes when you're getting hit on every throw.

By that assessment I guess Joe just can't play well anymore either bc receivers were wide open for him too.

Both QBs were hit early and often. Doesn't matter if guys are open if you don't have to the time to find them or step into your throw and deliver accurately. Both QBs are and will be fine. Sometimes you just have to give credit to the defense.

Both played incredibly well and made it near impossible for either QB to make throws even when receivers were wide open. When your game plan is to bring pressure, you're going to sacrifice coverage in some instances. You just take the gamble that your pressure will get there and either hit the guy or force a rushed/bad throw.

The gamble paid off for both teams. Hardly an indictment against either QB.

This ridiculous thread should just be deleted now! What an embarrassment today.

My apologies to the great 2006 defense for even trying to compare

Lol forgot this thread was here, not looking good right now

To be fair, I looked up the most points our 2006 defense allowed, it was 26 to the Titans who were 8-8 that year and ranked 27th in total offense. Now when adjusted for NFL PPG/Season inflation(gotten from here http://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/NFL/scoring.htm) which is 22.8(using 2014 as we have only played 2 games this year) over 20.7 and you get around 28.6 points.

Went a lot more in depth there than I thought I would(although I am majoring in Mechanical Engineering in college so this is pretty easy stuff) but what we find out is that still doesn't cut it as an excuse. We also won that 2006 game. A better example might have been 2000 where we gave up 36 points to the Jags but we won that game as well 39-36 in a very thrilling game coming back from a 17-0 and 23-7 deficit.

Why did you EVER think that? Defense sucked against the Broncos too, Peyton just didn't take advantage of it.

Not to toot my own horn, but during the game thread against the broncos. I actually said Peyton Manning is the reason the Ravens D has been so good. Overthrowing passes and trying to adjust to a new scheme with Kubiak. We don't have any pass rushers, and I'm starting to honestly believe that Suggs and Doom would have fell off a lot this year regardless of Suggs injury. Suggs and Doom were not getting any pressure against the Broncos O-line who are a bunch of no names especially at the tackle positions.

lol i specifically remember after we signed kyle arrington people all over this board were all like "SUPER BOWL".

Kyle Arrington, Kendrick Lewis and Webb were all terrible on Sunday.

Ha. Just saw this thread 2 weeks later.

They will be ok people...I feel that they will get better as the season progresses. Remember, Webb didn't have a full camp I think he will turn the corner at some point and play well much like he did last year.

The D line, I think will get some momentum with more games too.

No need to sound the alarms just yet.

No Ngata; No Suggs; Arthur Jones; No McPhee; No way! Too many recent top level losses. Not overlooking the current young DL but they need more experience together as a group. Same with the young secondary.

I kept reading the glowing opinion of Carl Davis and Z. Smith and have to say, I haven't see the results.

The Defensive Line really looked suspect vs Oakland.  The Denver game Manning was still trying to run the Kubiak system. Denver ditched that the second half vs. KC and they were a different team after that decision.

The bottom line is you don't let All Pro's get away without paying a price and we are paying it. If that is how it has to be done in Today's Salary Cap NFL so be it. But if you are going to let stars go, you have to draft up young stars without missing often.

I'm a Raven's fan and believe we can beat Cincy, but I have to say in my Fantasy League I'm a pragmatist and I dropped our Defense like a hot potato.

At the request of the OP, let's table this discussion, at least for now. Plenty of other threads in which to discuss our defensive woes....
