[News] Late For Work 9/18: Time For Ravens Offense To Be More Aggressive

57 posts in this topic

We know what our Ferrari is capable of. Even without Perriman's speed, Joe can drive this offense beyond cruise control. If the O-line holds up, we can hopefully put the pedal to the metal this week.

They may be regular season games now but teams are still trying to find their way as to players and plays that work in the real world. I say again, the first 4 games are the real dress-rehearsals. We all need to chillax with the Ferrari talk, Clifton Brown, and let the coaches develop the team for the long-haul. No need to panic.

This was from last week but you put it in the context of this weekend's match up...clean it up please

"There will be better days ahead for the Ravens, but they drew a brutal season-opening assignment. A fresh and healthy Peyton Manning will prove too much in Gary Kubiak's head-coaching debut in Denver." -- Jeff Zrebiec

I'm pretty sure the reason we didn't have a deep passing attack in week one is that Joe frequently had to hit his check downs because he was constantly staring pressure in the face. We had plenty of receivers running deep routes, but Joe was never able to get his eyes downfield. We need better protection before we can even begin to realistically criticize the gameplan, I feel like we didn't even get to see the gameplan...

This Perriman fiasco is killing the Ravens. Since he fell on his knee we have heard...probably tomorrow, in a couple of days, next week, to Coach Harbaugh screaming "I don't know". Now it's October, not early October or late October. Just October. Which October, 2015, 2016 etc? Since Perriman fell he has not only not played but even worse than that the press has been off limits. So no interviews with Perriman. What is everyone hiding? I said it a month and a half ago and took a lot of flack ...the Ravens need to come clean and move on. Let Perriman talk...let the Ravens play football. He is one player who doesn't matter when determining whether we are a realy good team or a average one.

Even if Perriman were on the field Sunday, that wouldn't matter if Von Miller and Demarcus Ware bullrushed Flacco with ease.

Yup, THAT!

Let's not forget that despite all the offensive shortcomings, we were in a position to win the game last week. A Steve Smith catch or higher throw to Crockett Gilmore would have done the trick.

Coulda done a little better with the whole Ferrari metaphor. It woulda been more accurate to say that's like taking a Ferrari on the AUTOBAHN and only doing 55. Cars go a helluva lot faster there than on the Interstate/Freeway. Not that it matters, bc as long as the O line fails to protect Flacco, he keeps throwing INTs, and veteran WRs let passes go through their hands and bounce off their facemask, we're not dealing with a Ferrari, we're dealing with a used Buick with bald tires.

The Broncos produced 5 TO's, 6 sacks and another defensive TD (probably responsible 24 of their 31 points last night vs the chiefs). So... we need to acknowledge that we played an elite defense.... in doing so. we learned some things about ourselves. 1. We also have an elite defense. 2. We need to get better up front and WR's need to make more plays 3. If we cannot protect Joe... we need to go to more two TE sets (we have the personal for it and this gives us more weapons). 4. Screens and draws have been staples in slowing down the blitz... this is suppose to be Trestmans thing... We have the personal to hurt teams in the screen game (wether it be RB or WR screens). 5. Finally we need to continue to grow.... a close lose to Denver in Denver is not the end of the world... infact... I think in some ways it shows us that with a little growth we can be at the top of the heap!

I am most excited to see how the offense develops with the TE sets. Our TE's will get better with more game experience and I am hoping that Trestman finds TE schemes to help our offense be multi-dimensional, unpredictable and, as a result, successful. Disappointed that we didn't use our TE's much as targets til the latter part of the game last week.

Waller is as fast as Tory. They still have the speed. He needs to get better at getting separation off the line. That's his biggest fault. His hands are fine. The WR coaches should be on this. If he gets better at getting early separation he'll be a big problem for defenses.

Yes we played an elite defense but that doesn't excuse that fact that our offense played so poorly. We should have had a better game plan and made adjustments. Just getting tired of the Offense not doing anything. Did anyone catch Phil Sims describing the Ravens offense as stale? What can you say to that? Our line coming into the season was supposed to be one of the best in the NFL. Dead last after the 1st game. Monroe is not worth the money we are paying him and is he even playing Sunday?

KC produced significantly more offense against the elite Broncos defense than the Ravens did. KC Oline produced running lanes for Charles, Baltimore's didn't do the same for Forsett. Although KC gave up more sacks, there were times Smith did have ample protection to produce in the passing game whereas Flacco seemingly was under duress every drop back. Amazingly, Jah Reid played well. He was much better than any of the Raven tackles. The new environment is doing him well. Meanwhile the Ravens offense wallows dead last in the NFL largely attributed to the Oline and WR play. The Ravens offense must produce something regardless of whether the opposing defense is elite or not. KC was able to do so. Ravens should be able as well. Hope Trestman gets this figured out quick.

Eugene Monroe is getting away with robbery right now. He is the reason the NFL doesn't give fully guaranteed contracts. I feel since he got paid he really doesn't want to play. And Marc Trestman might be one of the worse offensive coordinators I've ever seen which is why I guess he can't keep a job, if you're going to tell Flacco to throw the ball with that kind of pass rush from the broncos, it should've been quick throws. 4 and 5 steps drops were just idiotic especially with the WR the Ravens have. Steve Smith is a great Receiver but his best years are behind him, 16 games is a long season for him. If another WR doesn't step up it's going to be a long season period for Flacco.

When have you ever known a Ravens player to talk about their injury or return from it? Why is Perriman any different?

If he's only one player who doesn't matter as you stated, what difference does it make if he talks about his return from injury?

Can't throw deep balls when the offensive line has more holes than Swiss cheese. Need the tight ends early to make a couple plays in the middle of the field so teams start to get closer to that line then the one on one's on the outside will open up for us. But we need our line to hold. What happened to the 2nd best unit in the NFL last year and it is the same players.

Flacco told reporters at podium Wednesday that the first thing the offense needs to do is to take some shots downfield, even if they aren’t successful in converting them because, “if nothing else, at least let teams know that we’re going to do that and have the confidence in ourselves.” Great, waste several downs taking shots downfield that you are saying we probably will be unsuccessful in doing. Teams will know this team is NOT CONFIDENT when they read that Joe. "I can understand the frustration. Even some of the offensive players ourselves, we're leading the protests of having a better offense," Steve Smith Sr. told The Baltimore Sun. "I got my pitchfork, too, saying that we need to be better. I understand that. We're right there side by side with the fans. We understand their frustration." Reading this, it sounds like SSS and several players are not happy with Trestman's playcalling, just like many of us fans.

What really sad is we had this discussion in 2013. I really am not having a good feeling about this season and Ozzie bombing on draft picks lately not looking good for the future.

Taking shots down field a few times couldn't be any worse than getting stuffed on the run and if he actually threw the ball instead of lobbing it, why not? Not impressed with our running game and we are supposed to be a run first offense. Yeah believe that and I have a bridge to sell you.

Very True. If you look, almost every throw was not only rushed but thrown off his back foot while still backing up. He literally had no time to throw.

Watched the Denver/KC game also. By comparison, KC had far more success against Denver's strong defense than we did. Hope we come out this week with a far better showing with different schemes. I am most surprised by the collapse of the O-line. No aspect of the offense can produce without a much stronger O-line performance.

Our WRs have enough speed to get downfield. Its not great speed as much as its moves. You have to know how to make the DB hesitate or turn the wrong way then you have to seize that moment to make ur cut or accelerate. Its all about reading ur opponent. The greatest receivers didn't have the greatest speed, they had the best moves, instincts, and hands.

I see them going on a winning streak and by the time the 49rs game is here Breshad will be at practice and soon on the field.

I doubt it, there is something major going on there.
