[News] Ravens Aren't Taking Raiders Lightly

30 posts in this topic

This is the NFL and no team should be taken lightly.  The Ravens have played their share of stinkers against teams they should easily beat.  Miami went 1-15 a few years ago, guess who they beat for that one win?

No team ever can afford to feel overconfident anticipating an easy win over a weaker opponent. The most maddening losses are stinker games and any team can fall prey to a lackluster, embarrassing loss at any time. Those are the losses that will come back to bite us in the behind. Harbs knows this all too well and is doing all he can to avoid that "trap game" mentality. I think the Ravens will play hungry and want to prove that the offense can play much better and that the defense intends to raise hell all season.

The sorry, ragtag jaguars led by blaine gabbert beat the ravens a few years ago. Jack del rio was their coach. Jack is now coaching the raiders so... yeah. They shouldn't take these raiders lightly. Take care of business in advance of the home opener. If not, the ravens will be 0-2 going into their home opener against cincy, a team they struggle with (especially on the offensive end... their defense seems to get a magical pass rush against the ravens that they don't display against any other team).

Since this organization refuses to get a vet WR(Hakeem Nicks,Donnie Avery,Santana Moss,Brandon Loyyd all available)... Ravens better start using more double and Triple TEs EARLY and OFTEN in games in the passing game. Gilmore,Mad Maxx, Boyle our best receiving options outside Smith Sr... Last game Trestman and Harbs didnt get them involved until too late. Our TEs should have every game somewhere in the neighborhood 10 to15 catches, 100 to 150 yards and a couple TDs.

Use what good to great weapons we do have instead of waiting until the game is on the line or its over.

It seems like the Ravens usually play down to the level of their competition, which can be INCREDIBLY aggravating. I hope this game goes more like last year's game against TB than last year's game against JAX. Go up early, and keep pouring it on. Don't give the fans a heart attack like last week.

So you don't think the WRs are proven enough to carry the load outside of SSS, but you feel that two rookie TEs and a TE with like 2 career starts (who started last season as #3) are the ones to shoulder the load?

I like the TEs but this logic is faulty.  Go back and watch the game on ALL-22 if you can.  Marlon was open a lot.  A. LOT.  Problem is Joe never had the time to find him or anybody else that occasionally got open.  The WRs are not world beaters by any stretch, but neither were the WRs of the last 3 superbowl teams.  Anquan and Torrey were the best WR tandem to win the superbowl recently.  That says a lot

Pre Flacco and pre Harbaugh.  The Ravens may play down to competition on occasions but outside of the 2011 season, they still win far more often than not against bad teams

EDIT: We weren't exactly good in 07 anyway (9 game losing streak)

I hope not otherwise the Raiders would have the better record."Teams that rally from a 0-2 start and find a way to make the playoffs ... in the past decade, with only 10.8 percent of the 0-2 teams recovering."

They should take every game seriously, especially in the AFC. They had 6 losses last year to AFC teams, that's not good. I hope they can find away to beat the Bengals, those 2 losses last year were killer.

The offense looked so much better when our TE'S where actually a read for Flacco on the play. I don't understand people and their fascinations about us having multiple wr's over 1000 yds. Our tight ends are absolutely better options than our wide receivers.

The way we looked and played last week gives no reason to take anyone lightly.

Our defense dominated, that's what Ravens teams do.  I don't know what the Chicken Little mentality is here in the comments section these days.  If anyone said before the Denver game we would have a shot to win the game on the last play of the game, people would have been tickled and mostly everyone thought Denver would blow us out, that didn't happen.  So while everyone is running around yelling the sky is falling, the sky is falling, I think the Ravens are better than our own fans are giving them credit for.   While everyone is running for cover hoping the sky doesn't hit them in the head, I am confident we will dominate the Raiders.

We are 0 and 1, and have not scored a offensive touchdown. It's just as likely that Oakland is taking us lightly. Buckle-up, it's 2 desperate teams in week two and we have been away for 2 complete weeks. As usual....nothing is easy in the NFL. Go Ravens!

@Purple city, you just made my point. Trying to knock my my point. "Anquan and Torrey were best tandem to win a SB recently." Q and Torrey are like Jerry Rice and Randy Moss compared to the bums we have now. WORLD BEATERS! 1 you could question Torreys highpointing ability but you could never doubt the 2-3 Big 20 plus yard gamechanging plays a game he made blowing the top off a defense, oh and leading the league in defensive PI. Second Q is always open because he is built like a TE in a WR body and makes every catch.

So NO! If your going to say Kamar Aiken,Marlon,Brown and company..your making me laugh they are just "guys".

As far as the TEs yes I trust them more then any WR except future HOFr Smith Sr.

Sports is about making plays, explosive plays. Gilmore has proven he can catch a 7-10 pass and run, over through and around people, like Boldin, Mad Maxx already proved he has gamechanging ability with his 22 yrd reception on 4th down in preseason, and Boyle who nobody knew could catch is the size of Gronk has some softer hands of anyone catches wirh ease.

So I dont need all 22 to see who is the most talented players and who should be getting the ball.

And Im not blaming it on the Oline because they were constantly under pressure and Joe only got sacked 2-3 times the same as we sacked Peyton, and most came early. So they held up well its not like they gave up 5 or more sacks

Its about forcing the run game when Denver is committed to stopping the run, and not adjusting the gameplan to commit to a uptempo offense which was successful in marching down field

Yeah, we can't honestly take any NFL team lightly, so glad Doomie said such. Even when a team has low record they have top notch players...plus new coaching in this case...Ravens preparing, as they should. GO RAVENS!!!

I'm not buying it one bit! This team can make history and 3peat and should have won Sunday! Now let's beat the brakes off these dudes! The Raiders OWN the squeelers and that's it!

I said to keep D Carter, you have no offensive WR and can't score.  We shall see,  Carter do you still have a copy of the play book?  LOL   Ravens might own da Raiders now 99-2009  but, the old Browns don't and that's who you are the old Browns and always will be in my book.  And we owned the Browns.  Mike Davis    Member  I  do

Perriman a bust? Trestman a bust? Castillo a bust? Babin a step slow? Can Flacco finally cover all our offensive short comings? Bengals 33-13 with their whole squad. Will Steve Smith play young again? 6'5" TE have any Trestman plays called? Screen passes? Quick slants to Akin? Waller one on one? Ballet, finesse zone blocking? Stretch sack blocking? Good Luck

I'm confused.  Are you saying we'll win, or we don't have a chance?

"There's always a talented roster, so we can never overlook an NFL team," Dumervil said. "They've got players who get paid too."

^ Thanks for mentioning this Doom cause at this point, the Ravens aren't good enough offensively to be overlooking ANY team!

They should not take them lightly but also they should be worried. 0-2 is a death sentence for playoffs. Ravens have the "Shaw" curse of Int for touchdowns looming and a bunch mish mess of unproven, under performing, wannabees running around.

Never take any team lightly. Until they're up by 30 points (if that even happens) they can not sit back and give them any opportunities. Do take advantage of this game to start developing rhythm between Flacco and the receivers/te's, but don't do anything stupid. With the Bungles and Squeelers coming up you can not afford to lose this game and can not afford to overlook any team.

RAVENS need to not take any team lightly, No one is afraid of this team anymore and it shows every weekend. Time to light it up. Strong arm QB, quick WR's and big TE's looks good on paper, but once on the field it produces doubts not TD's. Play like a Raven is a nice motto, but these guys need to play like pros. Is the coaching staff a bit to lenient? They are surely not aggressive in their game planning. What is the deal here? It's getting embarrassing to wear Ravens gear anywhere outside of the Baltimore area.

I hope the Ravens really believe this, because the Raiders really are not a bad team, they always seem to get bad breaks.

Yes and that tide can turn any time and the Ravens have given the potions in the past. The backup QB tend to do well
