Activate all 53 players?

9 posts in this topic

Do you think the NFL will ever change their rules and allow all 53 players to be active?

Besides the NFL, where else do you provide full pay for your staff but only allow 89% of them to work at any given time?

Only if they add in some sort of "DL" like in baseball.  Otherwise, no.  They only activate 46 for competitive reasons.  If team A has 47 healthy players and 6 injured players, while team B has 52 healthy players and 1 injured player, it takes down the competitive balance.  It allows more rotations to keep guys fresher.  Unless they come up with a way to take an injured player off the 53 without shelving him for the rest of the year, this is what you're going to get. The problem with that is the abuse of the system in putting "injured" guys on for a few weeks while they aren't necessarily needed.

Every sport has a match day squad. Soccer allows 7 subs, 11 starters, total of 18, but You could have 25 or more players in a squad.

Choosing your bench is as important as the starting line up.

hope not.

selecting the best 46 players before each game is a huge part of game planning and forming a strategy.

i like it.

I'd like to seeit raised to 50 players. If you're short on the 50 you should be allowed to dip into your practice squad and pay them the rookie minimum for that game. Its gotta suck when you see your name on the inactive list.

That would be abused so much.  You'd have so many "hangnails" in order to create a 63 man roster.

Let them abuse it. Heck the Orioles do it over the summer. Personally I think it would make the 63 that much more relevant.

That's not how the NFL operates.  They actually care about competitive balance and strategy.

As long as you have the same amount of players that should provide competitive balance and strategy is most definitely involved with the decision on who to suit up plus I really don't want to see a TE lining up up at OT or somebody run out of RBs plus there are more options for SpTeams. With more players teams are stronger imo.
