[News] Late For Work 9/17: Breshad Perriman Expected Back In October, Mark Clayton Has Some Advice

98 posts in this topic

No need to rush Perriman cause teams will do what the pats did and get up on the line of scrimmage let him fly past them same as Torrey and pick it off over the top! He can decoy for the Ravens though! CREATIVITY and DOUBLE MOVES are mandatory to get open not just going long!

Glenn Clark Radio asked Clayton whether the Ravens%u2019 physical, run-first offensive philosophy hurts receivers. Yes it does and I have argued for years that is the issue with Flacco's stats as well. If he played for Detroit where they throw all the time he would have a 4500 yard season after season but just as the offensive philosophy hurts the receivers, it doesn't help the qb stats either.

They wasted a 1st round pick on this guy! They could have waited and drafted him in the 7th round. I guess shouldn't get to impatient it took 13 years for the to find a franchise QB probably be the same to find a receiver for him. SMH!!!!!!

The state of the Raiders safeties will mean nothing if Flacco only has 3 seconds to throw. Expect Raiders to roll the dice and come hard after Flacco. They have to be smelling blood in the water after seeing what the Broncos did.

Trestman needs to flip to the chapter of the playbook titled, "what to run when the opponent brings the kitchen sink".

Yeah, Clayton is the perfect person to give Perriman advice on receiving in Baltimore -- NOT!

care to explain?

Interesting choice of clip on Babin. Hate the flag for a late hit though.  I guess any clip of Big Ben on his backside from a monster hit is impossible to resist showing Ravens fans.

Yeah, it definitely has hurt Joe's (and the receivers') stats having the 'ground and pound' philosophy of offense. The last (and only) time the Ravens had a deadly, consistent aerial attack was way back in the beginning when Vinny Testeverde was here. Would be nice to see some more of that when Perriman comes back. We certainly could use a more balanced offense to throw off opposing defenses.

Think about this, though.  In an "all pass" offensive, the QB is everything, and if he goes down, the season is virtually over.  With a "run first" offense, a back-up QB can more easily step in and have a chance at winning games.

The roster should read "starting LT Hurst". Monroe is never in there. He's always out for dozens of plays at a time, preseason and regular season. Last year he missed 7 games. What a horrible contract this is turning out to be.

Really?

Let's just say Clayton is not going into the ring of honor anytime soon.

This guy has his own viewpoint as a former reciever. From my viewpoint we have never had a dominant reciever that demanded a pass first approach.

Monroe has become unreliable we need him to stay healthy we need a viable back up left tackle hurst is ok but not good enuff yet he cant handle the speed and power of a von miller or a kalil mack and were is kamar aiken

I'm glad the topic of trick plays have come up at least. Some of us have been saying for a long time that the Ravens apparently gave up (or forgot about) trick plays completely... I remember when Koch passed to Cary Williams instead of a punt at 4th & 10 v. the Dolphins 5-6 years ago... Or Rice passing to Ed Dickson for a TD instead of carrying the ball in Seattle in 2011... or Koch converting a fake extra point to a two-point conversion v. the Steelers week#1 a couple of years ago... and we can all surely remember Tucker's run attempt at 4th & 8 in the Super Bowl... And that was about the last trick play I can remember we attempted... three seasons ago. As far as I can remember, the Ravens went two full seasons without one single trick play attempt. Dunno the relevant stats, but this must be the least in the NFL... And meanwhile, the opponents ran a good couple of trick plays on us - most of them successfully... Just the Jags made two trick plays on us in one game last season...

Don't get me wrong, I don't say we should try trick plays every time - but zero in two seasons and counting? Trick plays aren't only fun to watch and memorable, but can also be crucial at times. I would definitely welcome some...

It was instrumental in getting the Pats to win a Super Bowl last year.

Was hoping to at least see Perriman on the practice field this week with a red jersey and moving around. Being in street clothes confirms October as being a best case scenario.

Yeah, that was a great trick play. Hurt us like hell - but give credit where credit is due: it was a great trick play... (as was the Jags' two trick plays, and I even liked what the Browns attempted with Manziel - only, luckily it was illegal.... but the idea was nice nonetheless.)

At this point I decided I treat him like he's on the season ending IR - and then the only surprise that can happen is that he comes back and that's gonna be a positive surprise...

Perriman back in October. What year? Monroe proved his first week here that he has no desire to play. Give him his checks and move-on. Claytons' comments have as much value as he had as a player. "Ask for the ball"? Perrimans first questions will probably be....where is the football field? Ok, now what do I do?

I can't wait for Perriman to get back on the field. Giving Joe a deep target as fast as him will really light a fire under this offense

JMO, but can we wait until Perriman plays at least one snap before we call him a bust. I think, the Ravens probably would like to take back the original day to day prognosis. Yesterday we had a radio host playing doctor. It is frustrating that Perriman is not on the field but like with any other injury, if the player is not healthy he can not play.

You're totally right!!! I've always said Ozzie is the wrong man for the job - he cannot even see the future... or anticipate future injuries...

How is it that the Pittsburgh Steelers are able to draft Speedy WR's not in the first round year after year and also have quality running backs and the Ravens can't buy either one?
