Heyward-bey To Skip Senior Season

20 posts in this topic

Part of me is happy and part of me is sad. I hope the ravens somehow get a chance to draft him.

Good size, good speed, local kid. Hopefully we could find a way to get him. We aren't going to have money to spend on a FA WR who will be a game-changer.

I'd probably say go for him if he falls to us in the 2nd round. Due to his unimpressive numbers this year due to MD's poor passing game. But the way teams use the combine to make determinations on a players worth he probably will be gone bottom of the 1st round which would force us to use our 1st rd pick which I am not so sure of.

guys take off your terps hats as heywerd bey is not going to be good, hes a taller version on yamon figurs, no thanks to bey in the first but yes, yes to him in the second although his 40 alone will get him in the first round

I was in love with him when Terps recruited him. Another poster said that he is a taller Yamon. I don't see it, only singularity that have is both fast. BAY can catch an run routs.

Good. Maybe now Flacco will get another weapon to work with.

Even though a lot of people here like him for the express purpose that he's a local product, it helps that he just so happens to be TALENTED as well. Y'know. Helps just a little bit. ;)

Being a Maryland student, I've followed him from the beginning. Not only does he have the physical skills, but he has the right mindset for Harbaugh. He won't be a prima donna. He's hard working and learns fast. Sorta like Flacco. I know Franchise was vouching for Flacco way back when. I'm vouching for Heyward-Bey. He is a play maker!

EDIT: Plus currently he's going to be a late 1st round pick, right where we need him!

guys watching bey run routes he looks so sloppy and he does not have great hands, hell be a project and if you want to spend a first round pick on a project wide receiver who cant catch or run great routes then so be it, id rather draft BJ Raji or Tyson Jackson in the first, id rather have Hakeem Nicks than Bey in the first if it came down to it.

Raji, Jackson. Gresham, Pettigrew, Smith, Davis are just a few players id rather have than Bey, the guy is not as good as you all make him out to be
I've been saying Heyward-Bey for months now. He is the perfect receiver for our offense.
Yup, I agree...we can debate whether Maclin or anyone else is better, but the key words were "for our offense".
Go get him, Ozzie!

DH-B has only minimally impressed me. He's a Second round pick for a Good team... Someone may pick him up early in a desperate need type deal. Maybe Kansas City.

DHB and Maclin run pisspoor routes......

Ramses Barden is a guy I am really high on
huge, solid hands, so-so route running, decent speed, very physical

exactly what cam needs

H8R and RoflDogs you see to be the only two on this forum besides one of the modeartes and myself that know Maclin and Heywerd bey will not be good as they cant run routes etc

and RoflDogs Barden is the guy i want us to target in round 2,
hes big (what flacco needs), got great hands and runs good routes and beats double teams in college

I also like him. He might not get a lot of separation, but we need a big red-zone target for Flacco to throw to. From the games I've watched (which aren't that many, I live in Michigan) we seem to not throw jump-balls to Heap or anybody else for that matter, and I think it's because we don't have anybody that can go up and get it. Jermaine Gresham, Brandon Pettigrew, Jared Cook, and Ramses Barden are all guys I think we should go after.

As for Heyward-Bey, I'm not sure about him. He needs to show that he can run decent routes and have consistent hands. Right now I'd say no on picking him, but a decent off-season could change my mind.

We don't need Raji or Jackson. I don't think Jackson is that good. I agree with the other four. I don't think we need Bey when we can get a guy like Nicks or Britt in the second round.

i like DHB...TO A POINT.

many in ravens land are down right OBSESSED with him because he's a terp. big deal.

if you shaved .1 seconds off of DHBs time, he wouldn't be in the first round AT ALL. he's being projected that high because of his combination of height and speed. the problem is, if you REALLY watch him play, he has some work to do. he's not a great route runner. we all know that. that's probably a LOT of the reason why he's downright disappeared in games this year against average coverage. if you can't make a DB bite, you're not gonna get open. and yes, his QB sucked, but his QB was looking to throw to him on every play.....he just wasn't always open! and yes.....we all know that he doesn't have the most reliable hands.

now i'm not saying he's another yamon figurs. first off, DHB actually has some size to him and CAN take a hit.....not to mention he's not afraid of contact (at least not as much as figurs). HOWEVER.....he's getting a lot of hype for nothing. part of the reason he's getting this hype is that the concensus top WR in the draft isn't all that fast (crabtree). that's what DHB and his agent are gonna be pulling for: staying fast and hoping crabtree isn't.

but personally, i'd much rather have a brian robiskie in round 2, who i think is a taller version of anthony gonzalez in indy....and a much, much safer pick. as would juaquin iglesias (though he's a bit shorter). or if you want a sure handed possession receiver who is sneaky quick, there's derrick williams of PSU, but he'll probably be an early 2nd rounder.

just dont' fall in love with DHB just because he played for maryland. that's all i'm saying. everyone has a value and i don't know if DHBs value is really at the end of round 1.....i think it's more the beginning of round 2. but that's my opinion. maybe you all should actually watch some game film of DHB before annointing him the "best fit for our defense."

I dont like DHB. We need someone that can be clutch and consistant. He disappeared in every big game the Terps played in toward the end of the season. We dont need another guy like that. We've already got fast guys that show up in spurts. See, Mark Clayton and to an extent Yamon Figurs.
