[News] Late For Work 9/16: Relentless Jason Babin 'A Perfect Fit' For Ravens

54 posts in this topic

Babin is perfect as a stopgap with Suggs being out for the remainder of the year.  Too many people trying to make judgments about Za'Darius Smith because we're not going with the "next man up" philosophy that so many people like to talk about.  I personally think putting a rookie out there to try and replace Suggs would be a horrendous move, and that bringing in Babin should help ZDS learn and get better with an increased role on the team.

As for the power rankings, I'm glad everyone has come back to earth on our outlook for the year.  People saying we were going to the Super Bowl, or having us ranked in the top 3 in the rankings were getting a little ahead of themselves.  WR is obviously an issue that will be ripe for criticism this year, but its far too early to make judgments about our offense after having played what I believe is the best defense in the NFL.

Sucks that we can't sign Means back for 10 weeks. I think we would have absorbed the Suggs loss more if Means would have stayed healthy and on the roster/practice squad.

Flashad? Really? I'm beginning to think Perriman is a fictitious character.

LMAO I can't wait until he gets back on the field.I'm tired of waiting to see if his speed is real.

Power rankings range from #7 to #17. Fine with me. I'd rather the Ravens fly under the radar. I think a top third or half ranking can be beneficial, it tends to have the team feel under valued and under estimated. That can motivate the team to go out there every Sunday to feel more need to prove themselves. The underdog role has always lit a fire in the Ravens. As a fan, I am not fond of early season high rankings because I like our team to play with the biggest chip possible on their shoulders.

Fish called Yanda, Denver the best defence in the NFL? They are a great unit don't get me wrong but if you think that is the best defence wait till the Seattle, St. Louis, KC and Arizona games. Miami might not be too far behind either. Regardless if Denver is the best or 10th best, 117yds of offence is offensive and insulting anyway you look at it. Unacceptable. Atrocious. If our coaches don't make in game adjustments and spice up the offensive play calling we will be in for the same snooze fest 4-6 more times in what's left of the regular season. I don't talk playoffs because this team has not shown or proved anything yet. IMHO as of today, Ravens don't make it to the dance.

God bless Jamison for his Raven ties and homerism but I'd be shocked if any move the Ravens made didn't strike him as perfect.

Was wondering what took Royal Farms so long to come up with a new Ravens pitch man. Tucker is a humorous choice singing opera about coffee. Tucker has the personality and the pipes to pull off some memorable commercials.

I like your observation. The more I thought about the next man up approach at this position twisted my stomach more and more. Nothing against ZDS, but like you said a rookie starting in place of our all pro vet just didn't seem adequate.

Babin should fit in perfect in my opinion. Even though he had a weak year last year I think that he will definitely have better production in our system over the Jets. Typically players just go there to roll over and collect a check...but something different with Babin and our franchise. Hopefully he is hungry for a title as much as we are.

Seems like players who thrive in the Ravens system, many times, don't do well when they leave for greened pastures. On the other hand, the Ravens seem to bring in players , for special roles and those players generally do well. Not sure why but I hope that the trend continues with Babin.

Probably not a good idea to place anything positive about Perriman in an article until he does something positive on the field. All it does is bring out the bust brigade.

No one is happy about the situation, but to be willing to write off a 1st round talent after week 1 of his first season - because of an injury - is totally irrational.

Wonder why the Jets released him?

Perhaps because they thought he wasn't good enough to warrant carrying on their roster. Does it mean that he wouldn't have been a better option to put on the field than others players that have at that position? Not necessarily.

He may be a better player right now than others at that position on their roster, but they opted to keep younger players they can develop for the future. Think about it ... before the Suggs injury, if we had Babin and were forced to cut an OLB, we almost certainly would have cut him and not Z Smith. But our circumstances have changed.

Beside, any player we would have picked up would have been cut by somebody, right?

Most of us fans make opinions, and coaches coach. Lets let JOHN coach and see how right or wrong he was first before being judgemental, I trust Ozzie why not trust John we all should just sit and watchand let our opinions go where they may, OK?

I don't understand how the Ravens get dumped on with the Denver game, it is as if the Ravens did NOTHING right, and Denver did everything right..... The game I watched was our awesome defense holding Manning to 0 TD's, and a very tight game all the way around...... All I hear and read is "the pick-6 by Talib, ummm, Manning threw one as well that resulted in our defensive TD...... Just smh.......

And love the socks on Charles James !!

I would love to see Darren Waller get some actual playing time. I know he is Raw at the position but with his Size and Speed he is someone that should be getting valuable reps this week against the Raiders. We are going to need someone step up the next 3 games after this week and I believe he is the guy.

Babin is a great addition to the team and will end up helping us into the playoffs. Upshaw will take over Suggs spot and we will rotate out Doom, Babin and our rookie. I am actually thankful that we still have Upshaw because he has always been my favorite Defensive player on our team. He will shine in the opportunity that has been given to him. Unfortunately that means we won't be able to resign him next year because he will be getting a huge contract somewhere else.

Babin has a reason to be relentless, he could get another opportunity next season if he plays well. A second Achilles injury will be hard to come back from, so you never know. I do wish Suggs all the best and will keep him in my prayers. I hope this is the end of the injuries, our team seems like it is cursed sometimes. Our enemy's fans have to be making voodoo dolls.....lol.

We can revisit this at the end of the year, when I would not be surprised to see Denver at the top of all defensive rankings.  Denver has probably the best pass rush duo in the league in Ware and Miller, Aqib Talib is a great cornerback when healthy and having him opposite Chris Harris makes them possibly the best CB duo in the league.  Also lets not forget that they have Wade Phillips as their DC, who always manages to get the utmost out of the players that he has on the field.

Of course, this is all speculation from watching the week 1 game.  Perhaps the Ravens offense is just bad and that's what made the Denver defense look so amazing - or perhaps it is the other way around.  We won't know for certain for another couple of weeks, but I feel 100% comfortable with everything that I've stated in this thread.

Babin is a good pickup. Flashad Perriman cant be on the club in the tub. McPhee is on his way to being the next Raven who cashed in on playing in a great defensive system not necessarily being great. Power Rankings in the first week is like a mock draft a year before the draft occurs, so much changes. Finally, here is where I really get negged. We need to go trade the house and a couple draft picks for a number 1 receiver. We cant draft one, we cant develop one, lets just accept that premise and actually do something to try and win instead of sitting back and waiting on something to happen that over 20 years we have proven we cant do. Spend the money/players/draft picks and go and get someone. I love Ozzie, but somewhere there is a problem in how we draft/analyze wide receivers. Lets just accept it, stop trying and concentrate on getting someone else's number one receiver. It isn't going to be cheap, but do you want to win? Next man up doesn't work when you don't even have the first man up.

Need to go get a WR.

Shouldn't  the fact that Dallas traded for a guy that Oakland didn't even play on Sunday be proof that there isn't anyone out there?

They brought in a bunch of veteran guys to try out and see if they can help out while Dez is out and instead of signing any of them they decided to trade for a guy that the Raiders didn't even have part of their 45 man roster.

Sure there are some big names out there but I don't think any of them will give us more than 250yds, because that's what most of them did in 2014.  And we have a bunch of guys like that already, if we are signing a guy we need someone that can give us around 700yds, if not more
